welcome buddy. i too was a guitarist who after many years eventually saw the light and crossed over to bass. the more you dabble the more it grabs you ! have fun on the forum , there are a lot of top notch folk on here.

Thanks fella. I'm going the nitro route if the body is chipped. Fortunately in my line of work I have no end of masks , breathing apparatus and nasty stuff wear to sink a battleship.thanks for the advice. Once I get going I will post a build diary for those that are interested.

Time is not a problem , i was warned off of cellulose paint as being difficult but i have seen some lovely colours in cellulose laquer. is it any harder to apply than normal poly paint ?

Hi folks. Been browsing the intraweb thing and i have got myself in a real tizz . Far too many people that know best followed by bitchy one up comments to rubbish the previous posters comments. My problem is thus. I am in the process aquiring a squier P bass body and J bass neck , with a view to building a bass as a father and son project for my lad to start learning properly on.I am expecting it to need a lot of TLC and It will be a long term project , i have half an idea of the hardware i want to fit on to it, but starting at the very beginning i need to take care of the body. now in an ideal world it will be free from gouges in the woodwork at which point its simple , i will strip , sand,stain and laquer to keep it a natural finish (wood grain permitting) but i am expecting the odd knock chip, which means stripping , filling blah blah and eventually Painting, laquering. I have promised the esteemed member of this very forum that is sending me these a build diary and intend to do my damnedest to turn it into something he would be chuffed with. so Easiest way to get a good even high quality / high gloss finish . a step by step of the "should do" bits would be great. and on a lighter note any suggestions for an out of the ordinary but nice colour ? cheers Bob

Hiyall. got a couple of old guitars that i was just about to throw out. thought i would give someone on here first refusal. one is a suzuki classical all working but cosmetically rough. 2nd is a 1/2 size steel strung jobbie with a trapeeze bridge , missing a tuning peg , nut and bridge have come unstuck and needs refinishing cosmetically. if anybody fancies a tinker they are yours. would prefer collection as the cost of the postage is probably more than the net worth of the guitars. cheers bob

on the verge of buying one of the harley benton shorties also. i own a couple of HB bits of kit and i cant find a bad word to say about them. very very good for the money

problem seems to have sorted itself out. he has taken quite a liking to my pb50 bass , and i must say he plays it better than a short scale. i have just bought it and already i am having to wrestle it off of him. looks like he has claimed it ! ho hum , it was my birthday pressie. might invest in the HB shorty for him just to try and lure him away from what is IMHO an excellent bass

Thanks.Thegreek. was already watching that one alongside another that looks like its going to be priced past my pocket by end of auction. had a satellite guitar once and it wasnt exactly easy to play , was sucking a tooth and deciding wether to take a gamble on it , but my lad is now going on about doing a start to finish project basically sourcing parts and building a bitsa right from scratch. still got my eye on ebay though while i try and talk him out of the notion.

I emailed thomman earlier this morning , outlining the situation , and also added that being as they are a web based business who rely on reviews as part of the whole online sales thing , anybody who picks up a HB guitar as new and it turns out to be a real dog will more than likeley be putting some form of negative feedback on any number of intraweb things , including the thomman site itself. this may make the difference between item(s) sold or not sold. it may hold sway that they are an ebay sponsored seller and there is an obvious conflict of interests here (namely someone buying substandard thomman products ,and attempting to sell them over the heads of a buisness as big as theirs) wether they are too big to care or not remains to be seen. but at least i have done as much as i can do by contacting both thomman and e bay.

Agree that there are more important things, and i doesnt really matter in the grand scheme of things . but have you ever bought a lemon ? wether it be a bass , car etc, i have ! and i remember how sick i felt . market research is a good thing and a must but it only works if you have the relevant info on the product you have to research as in brand , model number etc. I am not trying to come across as "outraged from Milton Keynes" but i have a strong sense of fairness , and that extends to items i sell aswell. and to me this seems very very wrong. not sure if i will achieve anything but i feel its right to at least flag up people like this. Aint much that holds society together nowadays but giving a damn IMHO is one of those things

£15 ? hes making more than that . the deco stuff goes for half its new price approx. then hes adding more on top at a rough guestimation more like £40-£60 per sale. just got off the phone from ebay and have managed to make some progress after arguing the fact that this person is selling under false pretences. so gonna try and get him spanked down.

next stop E bay and trading standards to see if i can get any help advice

Each to their own. there is nothing wrong with making the conscious decision to buy a deco bass and taking a chance, but there is a hell of a lot wrong with having that choice removed from you and paying over the odds for a product that you beleive is A1 just emailed thomman politely flagging up this ditch rats existence, its not fair on them as their market is primarily a web based one , and being that it relies to a large part on customer reviews.
