"That whole Jools thing was a like a mass meeting of the middle of the road millionaires club."
I very much doubt Stornoway are millionaires.
I've supported them in Oxford and the music was pleasant enough, but couldn't quite see what the fuss was all about. -
Not too much in common with an Alembic either...
Indeed.
Can add that these are a bit smaller than a Stingray. Like a Sterling in the proportions. Jazzy-neck and smaller body.
I never knew that. I'll add that to a very long list (of things I never knew). Stingrays feel a bit clumsy to me. -
Soak in meths, doesn't screw them up as much as boiling, only thing is eventually the end you wind snaps from being straightened and bent so much.
This doesn't arise with dual ball systems. As long as you can live with the "80's throwback" stigma... -
Now on hold for OS ^^^ until late Nov.
-
You can get an insulated version of them if that's a worry.
-
Hmm.... *strokes chin*
-
Do these have the curved body?
I don't know the Warwick range that well, and it isn't that clear from the photos.
Please excuse my ignorance!
Cheers

Bump for either bass?

A little BUMPthing for the weekend....

Saturday 17 at the Wheatsheaf, High Street. 8.30
I'm playing with The Mark Bosley Band, rock+acoustic trio.
Also playing, Oxford legends The Anyways, specially re-united for this gig (Mark Bosley's Birthday)
The Mighty Redox, hard working party band, and
Twizz Twangle, Oxford's finest singing postman (probably!) He's like a children's entertainer on acid.
Sunday 18th September, The Eurobar, George Street, Oxford: Acoustic Night with Overrated, The New Moon, Des Barkus, and hosts Sue Smith and Phil Freizinger (7 pm, free)
I play with The New Moon, (fretless) and acoustic guitar and possibly guest flute, psychedelic/melodic.
I'll have the Barefaced Compact out for the Saturday (but only with a shuttle 3.0, so it'll hardly be pushed) and try out my mini homemade 10" cab for the quieter sunday one.
Come and say hello if you make it to either!
Cheers

Another impulse buy eh, Bob?
I sold my Gibson version of this (LP Special) as I found the nck too thin, and couldn't get on with the slab body.
The contour on this looks nice though.
Have a bump on me.
Cheers

hmm... might have to buy TWO of those then...

I've had a Bulldog leather strap for about 20 years, and it's brilliant - really thick and tough.
Pics up as promised, if you need any more from different angles give us a shout
Like i said, a bit cheeky for £50!
What is the purple foam in the middle "supposed" to to? -
Those Vox Standards are very heavy - a real man's bass. They're made of maple blockboard with maple front and back facings. And covered in the most amazingly thick tough stuff to remove. I defretted mine too, and swapped it for a pair of AR18s speakers.
-
Hey! a little metal insert on the headstock would facilitate a useful emergency bottle-opener.
I quite like the headstock design - it will be nice to see it realized. -
I'm sure they're lovely to play, but I still think they look RONGO!
-
I've said it before, but BobP (0riginal owner) has exquisite taste in basses, and this is no exception.
I'm pretty sure I had a brief dabble on this when I picked up my Sei from him. Nice.
Good luck with the sale.

Line6 Lowdown 110.
I've used it for exactly the gigs you describe and it does very well. Has a good DI with speaker sim too. -
I gave mine a good service before I sold it, and in trying everything out, found the line out and infact the whole preamp stage was very low noise.
They use a decent toroidal transformer. This was the 4x10, and it did struggle at the highest volume settings in a 6 piece band, but was just about loud enough. The tone at lower volumes was punchy rather than deep. I think I sold mine for £75 ish.
Theres a couple of things to look out for in the power stage.
You can pm me for the details as I wouldn't want to bore this board (unless y'all WANT me to..), but they're no big deal and easily sorted.
If it's cheap I'd really recommend it.
Cheers
I use the black plastic Dunlop washers. They never fail, unlike various makes of 'proper' straplocks.
+1 to those. Simple and inexpensive. And they keep your instrument fully original, if that sort of thing matters to you.
I don't like the way Dunlops and Schallers resonate when playing seated with no tension on the strap.
That tells me neither are quite engineered correctly. IMHO, of course. -
check this out - listed as J Slater looks a LOT like Shuker to me!
if it is this could be a brilliant bargain for one of you lefties out there even without the amp etc.

Please ignore me if I'm wrong, but send me a thank-you if you do score a bargain. (I love Cloudy Bay sauvignon blanc btw.!!)

Vigiers don't look like a Warwick Thumb though.
