I prefer electronic drum kits and have a Roland TD-1K. Only cost me around £400 and recommend any drummist getting one . Electronic kits are great if you're short on storage space. They're quick to set up, take down and transport, don't go out of tune and you can get a great range of sounds out of them.

I couldn't be doing with having to wear a Hollywood cowboy hat. I dont do hats apart from a beanie when skiiing or when it's bluddy cold in Blighty.. The fact I'd rather pierce my eardrums with rusty skewers than listen to C & W is a secondary factor .

I think there might be quite a regional variation . I'm in Gloucestershire and a quick shufty at ads placed this year in JoinMy Band shows that nearly all are placed by people under 25. And they're all vying to gig at the dwindling number of venues around the county. In London and other big cities, older chaps and chappettes are probably in a much better position.

I've also been thinking of shedding some of my collection. I've sold quite a few instruments in the past, some I regret getting shot of while viz others I feel no loss for. I'm 48 now and most band ads I see don't won't 'old' geezers while none of my friends, work colleagues or acquaintances play anything (anymore). Once the lure of competitive tulip breeding and Crown bowls take a hold my instruments will probably become redundant anyway . Mind you, as they're mid price products they'won't sell for much so I'm not sure what to do. It's a quandary.

I might watch it. If ever there was a band whose back story is more interesting than their music it's FH

But in the real world, who can honestly say they never criticise or poke fun. It's human nature. Not nice but then again there are many unpleasant things humans do. Anyway, the comment in the OP was about the instrument and not the player. The OP wasn't saying the guy shouldn't be playing it.

Just wiki Rival Sons discography and the stats and it seems this retro sound isn't really cutting it with the mainstream. For hard/heavy rock in the US it's the likes of Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch who are shifting units

Hmm more of a Kingdom Come tribute than LZ. Not sure this is the sound for tha kids these days. Might do ok on the vintage / retro rock circuit.

Exactly. IMO these multi string basses are hideous looking. All the examples I find on YT are of admittedly highly competant players knocking out widdly new age jazzy stuff. Not my bag at all but if it floats other people boats , well that's fine too

I want to do more electronic with others using my electronic drum kit plus treated guitars and bass. I'm searching the world for a first generation Copilot FX Orbit Fuzz which closely approximates the classic dirty Acid House basslines of the Roland TB 303 as used to best effect by Hardfloor

Actually, as you see here, he can actually play, as can his mate. In fact they clearly look like they're having fun. More bands should take note IMO

Nowt dedicated to comedy but there' s always the 6.30 pm and 11pm slots on R4 plus repeats and vintage stuff on R4 Extra. R4E has played a lot of stuff ranging from 50s and 60s stuff like The Goons and The Navy Lark (if that's your bag) to contemporary material. Not long ago there was the very amusing Angstrom which spoofed Wallender and other Scandinavian 'tec dramas.

I'm near Stroud in Gloucestershire. Been down the usual routes e.g. ads, Join My Band posts, word of mouth. It's difficult finding or starting up a band who wants play anything else other than rock, metal, indie or even folk . My tastes mainly revolve around funk, hip hop, drum n bass, House, trip hop, world fusion etc . For the last 2 years or so I've been looking or trying to form summat loosely along the lines of The Roots and The Herbaliser but it's no-go so far

Considering there's over 50 years of rock music to draw on I'm puzzled as to why so much airtime on PR is given to old pony like Kiss, Foreigner, Asia, Bryan Adams etc. I've gave it one more go at 7 this morning but with an opening salvo of the atrocious Crazy Crazy Nights I lost the will to carry on

Like me I guess a lot of people stream to see whether they wanna buy stuff. I mainly use Last FM and use the 'similar artists' links to check out unfamiliar music. With each artist I'd probably stream half a dozen tunes but if I don't like them then I wont bother further. Quite a lot of the time I do like what I hear and then will seek out used CDs on Discogs or Amazon.

They were all fine looking girls but any issues about the dancing lay with their choreographer who had a very literal way of interpreting songs e.g. would get them prancing around with umbrellas to Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

They've recently had some reruns of it on BBC4 or Yesterday I think. Yep, it has to the the source material for Jazz Club, and not just loosely. A bit too earnest for me although i never saw it when first broadcast

Not sure I agree with you about not much new stuff being made. There's loads of bands that come to mind who i dont think have ever been played on PR, including pretty much all metal acts such as most of last and this year's Download lineups. At last years' DL I came across around 10 bands I'd never heard of before as they just never get any play on even PR let alone other radio. I think PR did or have one or two late night shows dedicated to heavier or newer stuff but not any more it seems

PR seems to have a strong bias towards all the old lags from the 60s, 70s, 80s, early 90s , Zep, Stones, Who, Aerosmith, Kiss, Floyd, Rush, Jethro Tull, Queen , Foo Fighters, AC/DC blah etc. It's like the playlist makers are in their 70s. There's precious little decent music radio amid the guff that is Radio 1, Smooth , Heart, Kiss, Magic, The Breeze etc.
