1.
yes, 15% of £1000 is £150 plus VAT at 20% is an extra £30 so a total including VAT is £180. so you guys end up with £820 Good money if thats what it really is...
Thanks. I thought it'd be £180. Yep, that's what we're getting.
2. My band have our first WMC club gig soon, and I'd like your interpretation on their fees. They want 15% +vat. So, if we get paid £1000, will they take £180 from us or £350? I'm sure it's the former, but our drummer seems to go with the latter. Someone clear this up for me.
3. YouTube some Joe Dart videos - he can boogie.
4. My covers band does pretty well. We're looking at 30 to 40 gigs already for next year but I'd happily pass the torch on for someone else to get us gigs. Enter; booking agent. We want to get in the club scene for 2017. Anybody use them/absolutely won't use them? We're from Leeds if it makes any difference.
5.
Where are you?
Sorry, just saw you're in London!
6. Have a bump for a great cab. I used to own one of these before I built my own cab - and I wish I hadn't sold it! Such an incredible tone. You're practically giving it away at that price! GLWTS
7. I took my USA jazz to my luthier this week. It's a Victor Bailey 4 string that I bought about 13 years ago. I confess, whilst it's been very (very) well looked after, it's never had a setup... Until now. Upon first inspection he said the neck had twisted and that it concerned him. He's making the necessary adjustments to bring it back, and flattening the frets amongst other things. We all know that each piece of wood is unique and over time can move, but what's actually happened, and how? Have you experienced it and how did you get around it.
8.
Have a listen to Miley Cyrus's recorded version of Jolene, available on a Youtube near you. There's a nice little bit of bass embellishment on that which works for the song. The bassist on the live duet of Miley Cyrus and her godmother Dolly Parton doesn't play those fills though.
The back yard sessions? It's a brilliant version. Miley is a fantastic singer when she isn't being a clown. Speaking of Jolene, have you heard Dolly's version at 33rpm? YouTube it if you haven't.
9. Some absolute gold here, thanks all for contributing.
10. Cheers guys. All sound advice. I've been playing nearly 20 years and this is the first time in many years I've thought I am out of my comfort zone.
11. My covers band, like most I assume, get requests all the time from punters. We try our best to add some to our set if we think it'll benefit us long-term, as most fit into the genre of music we mostly play. Until Country was requested... We get asked for Cash all the time. Every gig almost it seems, so we've decided to go for Folsam Prison Blues. Its dead easy, pretty much E A B7 throughout, and whilst I am comfortable playing the original bass lines in the song, I can't embellish it the way I want to. I want it to be an authentic 'fill' when I do it. Some quick web searches throw up chromatic elements to scales but I want something in particular to make country music fans go "oh man, that bass line was sweet there". My question, what would you do, specifically, to provide a quick fill/flourish to colour the dull monotony of the percussive element to the bass line in the song?
12. My fault for not reading properly! I'm interested in this - I'll keep my eye on it. Might be able to pop over on Thursday if it doesn't sell.
13. In your description, you wrote it's 200w. Is that correct?
14. I emailed BassDirect earlier in the week. Apparently due to exchange rates it's unlikely there'll be a shipping of Baer at BD for the foreseeable future.
15. Hi all. First post on basschat! Where can I find Baer cabs in the UK? I'm based in Leeds. I've waited patiently for one to crop up on here to no avail!
