The basic design of FET overdrive circuits dates back to the original Tech 21 sans amp released in the 80's, compare and contrast for example with a zoom muli effects pedal which needs thousands of hours of software development, analysis of modelled circuits etc, contains more expensive components (needs actual processing power) and sells for a fraction of the price ??. So no I don't buy the R&D cost and general business overheads argument.
As an example - I am not sure I would call the Tech21 DP3X or the PSA 2.0 basic circuits - they are decently priced for what they do

Does make me wonder though how DG Tech21 and various other boutique pedal continue to get away with charging £250+ for fet circuits with generously £10 worth of components in them, its some kind of weird failure of the free market to bring the prices down.
It’s not just components used in it though, it’s R&D, premises, machines/equipment, staff wages etc etc. I think the Tech21 stuff is keenly priced, plus for the most part it’s bombproof, and DG stuff is well made with great customer service, although I agree they are on the pricier side

Fixable by the right person though
Depending what is underneath the block - prolly an easy job relatively speaking with another full PG over it

Me too. Also reading the linked review I liked that the hybrid looks are expressive of the hybrid sound of the bass.

Very surprised to see this still here. Easily as good as the Cali76, just a different flavour. If only I could have both. Clean and clear to thick and creamy at the flick of a dipswitch! Really useful.
Do it
i do!!!

It's not a DI output though from the block diagram.
It's simply an unbalanced output. Output level is not what defines a DI (in fact they'll often have a low 'mic' level output designed to be the input to a mic channel on a mixer).
Primarily a DI out needs to be balanced or 'Ground Cancelling'. And 1K0 output Impedance is rather high.
It's a shame that lots of pedals miss a DI out. Passive impedance balancing costs next to nothing.
I get your point - but unless I am massively wrong it will still be able to go straight to desk or amp so long as you have the correct cables?
that was more the point I was trying to say

Would love to give this a whirl. Did they perhaps miss a trick by not incorporating a DI out?
Nah mate - there is a DI out - don’t be fooled by it not having a 3 pin plug - the ‘out’ can be line or instrument level

This is the only way to do it if you have a thick poly finish. Looks punk as hell, and infinitely better than sandpaper.
I really don't understand those Sandberg relics. For a bass to look so modern, and to have wear and tear only achievable through heavy use over 10x the number of years that such designs have even existed, is bizarre to me.
It’s a finish - that’s it
i cannot understand why Turdburst is liked at all - but it’s available.
The modern part about sandberg is the shape since 2015, because they had to change under ‘gentle’ pressure.
Otherwise they have been going 35 years - plenty time for them to look worn.
-
For a shop made one - Sandberg, Sandberg, Sandberg.
or has been said - get a decent blank body like Mighty Mite, All Parts and create your own relic from scratch - best thing I did for my P

Sandbergs do their sig basses right - they are based on a standard model - but the pick up placement is slightly different and chosen by the artist, finish/ageing/vibration/heat treatment/neck profile etc - subtle but very real differences.
The MarloweDK is an absolute stonking jazz bass and I think can work out cheaper than a ‘regular’ bass with the same treatments, plus they can often do the sig but in your colour choice

Defo bitsa - decent body - wood or Status graphite neck - choose your own rest of parts - it’ll be the one you like best

Oh you’re teasing me now eh?better in what way? How would they compare?
I’ll definitely give him a call as I could well consider this, I can almost get two of those pickups for the price of a Fralin…
Imagine all the BN58 is (and they are very good) but better, clarity, punch, definition, responsiveness, articulation - pick or finger playing.
They make me smile when I play them, and they will defo cut through nicely

Lindy’s and Lollar’s are very good, but they (in general) are more in the classic old school slightly softer P bass sound if you get my drift.
I’ll give you another from left field if you want
Seymour Duncan APB-1 - not oft used - but awesome pick ups

Oh that's very interesting!
I was partial to Aguilar but have heard so much fuzz about Fralin overwounds... But then these Creamery pickups at £85 do beat the price eh?
My bass is tuned on BEAD so I need a thick but not too boomy bass, more defined than your usual 60s pickups.
Thinking the '65 could do the trick? https://www.creamery-pickups.co.uk/classic-65-precision-p-bass-pickups.html
I have the 58’s - best things ever - no disrespect to the Bare knuckles 58s which are very good, but they are better even still.
Jaime is good on email and he doesn’t hear the phone ring whilst working winding, but replies at the end of the day.
Have a chat with him as he can tailor the wind you want from an existing model.

Hey guys,
So I've got 3 P basses, one of them for my punk rock band, another one for my soul/neosoul/pop project, and a 3rd one as backup to either.
The Purple Limelight goes on a Nordy P blade for the dirty punk rock tones
The Olympic white Limelight goes on a Bare Knuckle '58 as backup bass that does cleans for punk rock and backup to the soul/neosoul band
The LPB bassmonkey bass needs a pickup for the neosoul band;
Considering the tonal options I already have, I was thinking on the below:
Aguilar 4p60?
Nordstrand NP4A?
Fralin? If so, which one, +5% would work?
Lollar? if so which one?
The bass it'd go to is swamp ash bodied with ebony fingerboard, tuned BEAD, and considering the genre it needs to have thick lows to hold the band and an ability to cut through the mix (keys, singer, drums and clean guitar). I play quite melodic parts so I need the highs to cut through in the mix. No need for glassy highs, just present and easy to hear them.
Considering the backup limelight has a BKP '58 I was thinking I would rather have a different taste to the '58 prototype but I'm open to suggestion. Thoughts? Thank you!
From the list
Aguilar
