1.
LEDs in the neck edge..?
Nah- LED's are a luxury I can't really afford- If I wanted to spend more money It'd go on the electronics first. I'm after a vintage vibe from this- 70's jazz meets SR5 My Sei i'm selling has side LEDs but I'm not that fussed R
2.
Why 22 frets though..?
The neck is largely based on an SR5- profile, frets, neck joint, truss rod, tuners etc- there's something about a stingray 5 that just works and I wanted to take as much of that over to a jazz bass format ;D
3. Hi- I'm after having john build me a 70's styled jazz 5- I went to beav's graphics to get a mock up done- i'm really impressed with the result- -full size jazz body - 5 string -swamp ash body sunburst finish -bell plate over the neck pickup -ramp in front of the bridge pickup (about 2-3cm until just before the scratchplate) made of swamp ash, finished in keeping with the body - to be adjustable with screws like a dummy pickup. (cheers dood ;D) -black/white/black pickguard w controls like a celinder jazz (attached photo) I've always managed to knock the controls on a normal jazz when playing with a pick. Chrome knobs. -22 fret maple neck -carbon fibre reinforcement -maple fretboard - blocked in pearl and bound in white -headstock as per your new design, 4 over 1 - matching sunburst finish with shuker logo in silver coloured material. full width string retainer like a sadowsky -fender style cloverleaf tuners but with hipshot ultralight gear section (again like a sadowsky) -Stingray 5 neck profile -all chrome hardware -6 bolt neck joint, like an SR5 Nordstrand Big singles pickups Shuker 2 band preamp (bass boost only/treble boost and cut- active/passive switch, series/parallel switch
4. Nice- there's something about an SR5 and markbass rig- exactly what I've been in love with for a while now ;D
5. Hi- I was wondering what's under the scratchplate of the marcus miller jazz bass 4 string. My old usa jazz had a big hole under the plate and wondered if this was the case with the mm jazz's. would someone be able to do me a big favour and post a photo or just describe how the control cavity is routed under the scratch/control plate extension. Cheers in advance Russ
6.
This looks good for me . Russ buys the Roscoe and does all the legwork getting it down from up North. He gets bored of it after a year and that way I only have a 20 minute drive to go take it off his hands lol
;D nice- That does seem to be the average lifespan of my basses- It's a bit far for me to travel at the moment, not going to be able to take any time off work for a bit and my weekends are rather full for ages to come. Would love to try it out though
7. ps- Bernie Goodfellow's workmanship is fantastic- he lent me a spitfire 5 for a week, I couldn't fault the build quality but it wasn't the sound in my head
8. Nice ;D I'm really only after a nice light piece of swamp ash for this one- so hopefully I'm safe! The hardest part is working out how I want the neck- I live in Brighton so a trek up to sheffield is quite a slog- I can't really afford to take the time off work to go up either, this is the main thing holding me back.
9. Nice one cheers ;D I'm seriously considering asking him to build this bass for me- It's basically going to be a sunburst marcus miller 5 with a few refinements and customisations
10. Hi - I'm thinking about having a traditional looking 5 string jazz built by John- would you be able to take a big straight on photo of the headstock for me? cheers ;D r
11. Sei Original Hybrid 5 String It's actually for sale HERE Sei Jazz 5 Shuker Jazz 5 Matt Pulcinella MPG Level 5 Wish I'd kept this one longer - it wasn't quite my thing at the time but would suit me down to the ground now
12. Stingray 5 HH or HS- My HH is incredibly versatile and is now my number 1 r
13.
hi BaL yes, i think it's dirt in the wood, but the finish looks ok, so I'm not sure how that happened... maybe the fingerboard has been re-laquered in the past - i have no idea. This bass has previously been owned by a couple of other forum members, so if they know, they might chime in cheers G
Not quite sure myself- It was like this when I got it ;D
14. No worries ;D cheers for the reply- I'm still interested in the F-Bass though- I'm going to put my Sei up here in the next couple of days, if it sells in time I'll make you an offer. Russ
