You'll probably do what most people end up doing - loading up the Spectracomp and leaving it at that!
That's exactly what I've done
2.
yeh he's mentioned us a few times. I think there are some friendly connections going on somewhere Anyway, maybe see you at one of these "folk punk" gigs, we seem to be getting loads at the moment!
haha, i'm sure we'll bump into each other at some point, every one seems to end up knowing everyone in the grassroots festy scene...
3.
Headsticks, we were first on so not the fullest crowd!!
slightly subdued and hungover too i would think....i saw your band mentioned in ferocious blog, i'll have a look at your fb page when i get a chance. i didn't get there till late sunday afternoon so only caught a few bands.
4.
Farmer Phil's festival yesterday. A bit of an odd one but good fun. Quite reassuring to know I can nail a gig while still recovering from the night before
what band are you in if you don't mind me asking, we (folkthesystem) played on the sunday eve at farmer phils oo, wicked festival but i'd drawn the short straw and had to drive home after the leylines set.
5. If you've only got two basses both bought second hand for much the same money then which one is the beater?.... That said my latest purchase is better looking than my silver rbx374 so I'm gonna start gigging that now
6. cool thanks again for all the advice folks
7. thanks folks, i'll have to do some research into setting up etc.
8. Hi I've searched but can't find info.... I'm looking to put flat wounds to try on my yamaha bb414, it's strung with rounds 45, 65, 80,105 and I can't find any packs of flats with those gauges? I don't want to mess about with intonation adjusting etc just to try them. What effect would putting 45, 65,85,105 on as this seems to be the standard set that I keep seeing on t net. Thanks in advance
9. I've just realised how old this thread is! Whoops.
10. Yamaha apx, I gig a 500, sounds lovely plugged in and most importantly stays in tune Pretty robust too, it's been knocked off it's stand a few times and still ok.
11. recieved my yamaha bb bass today from logicred. well packed quickly delivered and as described. thanks.
12.
Thought so, seen you a few times over the years, at The Swan with Rob Lanyon last summer most recently I think
Aah that would've been with Johnny fell on bass then, you've not had the pleasure of watching me throw down my guitar, grab the bass and stumble through a song yet....
13. Are you the Folk The System from Banbury? Yep
14.
Are you the Folk The System from Banbury?
15. We reformed our band " Folk the System" after a 20 year break only to find some Canadians had stolen our name along with a rather dubious American festival with far right connections... We were gonna set our lawyers on both of them untill we realised we didn't know any who worked for free
16. Tc bh250 and tc 112 cab, playing flat out folkypunky stuff with a fiddle, electro accoustic and/or electric guitar and a bodhran, good for small rooms and pubs. Always di to pa for festivals or bigger gigs where it makes a handy monitor To be fair tho I'm not one to worry about the niceties of tone and all that technical stuff, as long as it sounds like a bass it'll do
17. I think you definitely need one "pro" in any band, if it wasn't for our bodhran player being mr organised, the rest of us wouldn't even know what days the gigs we're let alone manage to get there at the right time....
18.
We dont know if it was clipping or just not a good tone, but if it was clipping im at a loss to figure out how the passive input was fine but the active (assuming its a pad) wasnt.
Sorry gents, the " bag of spanners" I mentioned was the sound mans description. Basically he was getting a distorted/ muddy sound from the amp. For what it's worth I use a yamaha rbx374 and ive plugged it into various amps without any issues before. No idea what that particular combo was tho I'm afraid. Sounded ok after tho
19. Thanks for all of your replies, most festivals we play seem to supply a bass amp on stage, to save turn around time. so it's good to know the difference in the inputs and that I won't fry anything anyway
20. Hi , I played a festival last night, turned up, plugged my active bass into the active input of the supplied bass amp and it sounded like a bag of spanners, sound guy comes over and says plug it into the passive input, did that and it sounded like a bass again Can someone more enlightened than me explain what the effect of active into passive is? Ps we only had 20 mins in between bands so I didn't have time to play about with settings etc as I had my semi accoustic guitar to sort aswell..... Cheers.
21. I've got a tc bh250 amp and a tc 1x12 cab, makes an easy carry, easy to use eq and sounds pretty good to my ears... Toneprint compresser patch is handy too. Got both for about £400 new, I use it for practicing and gigs with my band, 1 cab suits a small pub type venue pretty well, but I DI out for festies and big rooms. I'm sure the combo is much the same amp with different speaker combinations. We've a bodhran player rather than a drum kit but he's straight through the PA and bangs it like a psycho
22. Cheers, i do like the idea of a combo for weight etc, I've heard a lot of good things about markbass kit.
23. Hi, just wondering if anyone has any experience in playing electro accoustic guitar through a bass amp? I'm going to be taking over bass duties in addition to my accoustic guitar parts in our punk/folk band. We use 6 &12 string electro guitars with a bit of gain through amps, fiddle with various delays and a bodhran which allways goes straight through pa, no drumkit. I don't want to be lugging 2 amps about, so any ideas on a suitable bass amp/ combo ( budget about 250-300 squid, that I could plug both into? I go for a punchy sort of bass sound ( early new model armyish...) so don't need anything to handle dub reggae I don't want to rely on the guitar through pa if I can help it as most gigs I play are festies with a short/ non existent soundcheck and pretty ropey onstage sound... Apologies for the essay of a post Tony
