  1. There has been some development since my last post in this thread. Another three vantages and a fake mockingbird πŸ˜€
  2. I'm thinking the exact same thing, so then there's two of us! 🀣
  3. I inmediately got a feeling of Marleaux basses. Both name and looks. Edited to say that I really like the looks of Marleaux basses.
  4. My first (Hondo P) was stolen My second (Vantage VP-710B) was also stolen. I loved that Vantage so much, so I had to get another. And backups for it.
  5. I'm a simple guy. Give me double P's, and im all right.
  6. If its done correctly, it can last for to 7-10 years. But it won't withstand physical abuse better than the original paintwork
  7. I tried to find an alternative, because i seemed to remember someone else having something equal. But i came up empty. When i'm extra careful, i put tape where i plan to cut, wrap over it and cut against that, and then remove the tape. But it's a bit tricky to remove the tape.
  8. Of course! πŸ˜€ Thanks
  9. If you do a search for signmakers / car wrapping in your area, they should be able to help you. Either if you want to only buy the material or let them do the complete job. The hard part is usually to get hold of a good enough original.
  10. I really like 3M charcoal and psychedelic flip. We did a Tesla at work in matte Psychedelic Flip. And it looked great!
  11. I use a scalpell and a very light touch when I cut the vinyl, but knifeless is a very good way to cut with absolutey no risk of damaging the bass. You could start with a buttjoint, and if the vinyl starts to shrink or unravel, you can put a stripe of vinyl along the joint. A stripe in a constrasting colour can make a nice touch.
  12. I try to make it as much as possible along the "ridge" of the instrument. (I'm swedish and can't think of a better way to describe it in english, so i made a drawing 😊) That's also the easiest place to do it.
  13. It's possible... But the risk of the vinyl shrinking (it can shrink 0,5 - 1 mm), or you peeling it with your arm, are pretty big. So its a question of taste and priorities. I do the back first and then the front with about 5 mm overlap, so its invisible when you look at the bass from the front.
  14. I have six almost identical basses. (long story πŸ˜€) Only different colors and built 79/80/81/82. There is a tangiable difference between them. It doesn't take much to alter the sound. A twist on the pickup screws or a tad higher on the bridge. Now two are BEAD, and one has flats. The rest have D'Addario XL170.
  15. Not your normal sticker, but instead of painting my kit bass i made a big decal with my favourite look.

    Vantage Dual P

The one with black pick-ups and bridge on the right hand side was the first i bought of these six. It is red-ish, like the top left, under the vinyl i put on it. The ones above and under are the "right" color: natural wood with white/beige plastic.
  17. My pride and joy: Six Vantage VP710B'S that i collected over the years. It all started in the early 80's with buying my first, which got stolen in 91. Then i had to buy a new, but ut was in bad shape and wrong color. So i kept buying better and better basses as i found them. Now i have enough to last the rest of my life! πŸ˜€
  18. I'm a sucker for 2+2. My Vantages have a sleek shape that really appeals to me. As do old Arias and Matsumoku-built instruments.

    Your Go To Bass

I have 16 basses, including a DB, but always go back to my first love: Vantage VP710B. I have 6 of those I have two tuned BEAD, one with flats and the rest are EADG. They are spread over two rehearsealspaces and my home.
  20. I bought a Vantage VP710B in 1982 or 83 and haven't stopped playing It yet. I own/have owned all kinds of basses from a variety of brands, but always go back to "the one". It definitly is my extra limb πŸ˜€
  21. I work as a signmaker, with vinyl since over 30 years, and have wrapped 12 - 14 basses and guitars. I must say that for being your first try, you did an amazing job! And it seems like you learned enough this time to make it perfect next time. The only way to wrap both sides is to wrap the back first and then the front with 1 - 1 1/2 centimeter of overlapping along the edge of the instrument.
  22. Thank you πŸ˜€ That's what happened to all my bridges. I bought 5 no-name replacements from Alibaba for almost the same price as one costs in Sweden. And they work just as well.
  23. Thank you. I'll talk to a friend who works in metal, and see if be can't fix some for me. Should be easy enough for him πŸ‘
  24. I've been looking at those. I read that it will stop the bridge from bending, and since i changed the bridge on 5 of my 6 basses with that kind of bridges because of bending, this looks like a cheap way to prevent that. How would you say the sound changes, what It does for the tone?
  25. Easy. Phil Lynott for me. He changed everything for me in regards of bassplaying! His rhytmic approach especially.
