You are not wrong. In my opinion the 80s was the best era for basses. And music.

I think the black vinyl looks good now thats it's done. I promised myself that this time I wouldn't do it on the kitchen table, but at work where light, work area and tools are better. I ended up doing it on the dining room table, so it's not perfect, but good enough. 🙃

In my bass collection a black bass IS exotic 😀 A friend has a guitar with that look, and I think it will look cool on the Explorer.

I will stay with what I know 😀 And if i'm not satisfied with the color i just rip it of and try something else.

I ordered a kit from guitarkitfabric.co.uk. An Explorer style bass just because I like the looks of it. I work with vinyl and know nothing of paint, so I will wrap it. Sides and back in matte black and front in "black wood" For the price i'm not expecting much, but for the fun of assembling it, as a toy and a decoration it's worrh it to me.

I can't help you, sorry. BBQV did all the routing and soldering. And he soldered everything back as it was from the beginning. And when I shifted the pickup-positions i just moved them sideways with the leads still attached. So its basically the same design as in a Les Paul.

I really appreciate the opinions I get here. 😀 I've been playing VP-710B since the early 80's and i'm a bit stuck in my ways. So I was concerned that was too biased. But I feel that it was the right thing to do, even though my other five will stay original.

You assume right 🙂 And i was careful to keep the height of the pickups the same in all positions. I played every take with the same attack (as best i could).

Today i wrapped the Reversed bass to cover the cavitys. And while i was at it, I wrapped my main at the same time.

I had one of my Vantages routed to enable reverse P. @BBQV did all the hard work, I only played and recorded it. So now i tried all the combinations in that one bass. Bass directly into Audacity. Changed the position of the pickups without even loosening the strings, so everything else is exactly identical. I haven't decided which i think is best, but i am going to leave it Reverse! Got the bass back yesterday and compared it with an original. Only a fast comparison through an Amplug Bass. But there was a difference, more well defined somehow. But that can be differences in strings, serup and such, so i'm going to find a way to record so I can compare the different placements in the same bass.

Unfortunately my computer burned, so I have no recording possibility. 😢 It will only be my subjective opinion.

I could... But i'm a Double P kind of person 😄

I play with either both pickups or neck solo'd. Always with the controls on 10. I'm eager to see if the reverse P is useful on the bridge pickup.

The way i do it, I can test all three options in the same bass. It hurts a bit to "sacrifice" a bass. But i have spares It won't be empirical evidence for the one and only truth, but it will finally end my curiosity! 😄

I think the same way. Probably #1, but #2 somehow looks better... The controls are V/T for each pickup, but the shaft for the bridge pickup Tone is broken, so I am probably just leave inside the cavity and wrap over the hole.

I'm about to solve the mystery of Double P/Reverse P or a combination thereof. (At least for myself) I had a friend put a router in one of my six Vantages. Now I can place them in all three variations and see for myself if I hear a difference and if so, which I like the best. When i've decided, my plan is to fill in the empty spaces and wrap the bass in printed vinyl to cover up the mess.
