Gareth - you’ve got ond of the best taste in basses on this site, and I’m lucky to have been able to have bought that L1000 if you... can you elaborate a bit? Fender could be anything from custom shop all the way down to made in China.

Yes sorry I’m talking about the better parts of fender which my experience tells me is:

fullerton reissue jazzes and precision’s (1982 to 1986)

some of the later USA reissues that weigh less than 10lbs

    custom shop

    japanease fenders

Mexican classic range and some other Mexicans including cabronita, rascal deluxe pj passive

vintage fenders up to 1974 and some 1975 to 1982 but watch weight, sloppy 3 bolt necks and bullet trusses

Fender signatures - roscoe beck 5 (but not the 4), Tony Franklin fretless , jaco and 60th anniversary p bass

    Also squiers:-

    jv series

    vi string

    1980’s bullet

I will add more as I remember them

    Help!

I’ve had a hankering for a Sadowsky for years on and off and it’s getting worse.

I cant find too many posts on here about them, but I’d like your opinions. I know a few of you guys really rate them... I have a jazz already and I’m looking for a PJ. Should I be looking for an NYC over a metro? Would I really be able to tell the difference....

come talk to me... and of course feel free to add your pictures ...it won’t help my GAS but I can look! 😃

I’ve had one USA and various metros including jazzes and a pj - haven’t had a pure p bass sado

    My opinion?

    Get a Fender

    Thanks for that

So i think a useful mod would be to use the American tuners and string tree which I expect are difficult to source here in U.K.

Could you post photos you of both sides of the headstock?

    Thanks

So here are the parts from a tribute bass and from the G & L parts department

The latter look much better quality and are USA parts

SO which type does the L100 have

    Photos would be great!

They also look a lot better in the flesh than in their photos. The natural is stunning.

I believe (but I may be wrong) it's all the usa hardware, but it's just assembled overseas.

The let down usually is the string tree and the tuners

Could you post photos you of both sides of the headstock?

    Thanks

Given how simple this is, particular if paying through secured channels, it’s quite an extended conversation over nothing really.  The seller is responsible for the delivery of the goods, and if the buyer paid through PayPal or another buyer secured method, if any loss or damage occurs during transit it’s the sellers responsibility, whatever they say before the sale and whoever arranges or pays for the courier.

If the buyer just made a bank transfer, PayPal gift etc then yes, entirely a gentle(wo)mans agreement before any money changes hands.

Here’s an example. I bought a pick up, small easily packaged but it was expensive and unfortunately got lost in the system. I sought a full refund and the seller refused saying why should they suffer the loss. I presumed the item was insured and said just claim it back on the shipping cover. I was told I didn’t specify that I wanted the item insured and it was implied that I was only asking about insurance now the item was lost. I explained I’d just presumed that the item would have been insured because it was about £200 value. It became a whole mess trying to get my money back made worse by a seller who appeared to abdicate responsibility, turning it back on me because I hadn’t insisted on insurance from the outset.

Both of us were ‘right’ but equally both of us made some plain errors in not insisting on a few basics.

I presumed the item was insured

    Never do this

A look at the shipping cost the seller quotes will usually confirm that it cannot possibly include insurance

    Example

72 fender precision priced at £2500 with shipping £30

I don’t have a ton of data but twice Parcelforce have broken an item in transit. In both cases I provided evidence of packaging and the details of the sale. They did pay out in full both times, the second time was a couple of weeks from delivery to pay out.

But parcelforce only lets you insure basses up to £100 and then only in a hard case?

I'm a logistics manager, so I see the state of product that comes into our factory and complaints from customers about our goods that get damaged in transit, and quite simply I don't trust couriers.

It's not really their fault, these days we buy so much stuff remotely and online and also don't want to pay more than a few quid for delivery that the drivers and depots are incredibly stetched and don't really have enough capacity to meet demand.

Personally if a buyer is willing to accept liability then I'll arrange a courier at their risk and cost, otherwise it's collection only. I am lucky in that the packing department works for me and they've got quite good at packing basses over the years 😁

However, as above I don't trust couriers with something I don't have a bespoke, designed carton for and also don't trust the insurance to pay out the actual value of the item in a timely manner, if at all.

You say you  “don'ttrust the insurance to pay out the actual value of the itemin a timely manner, if at all.”

As a logistics manager working in this area can I ask you to detail the cases you know of that involved insurance claims?

I believe the test of an insurance company is whether and how they pay out on claims

    Thanks

    That's such a cool bass @ped,

And it sounds fantastic (to my ears at least)..

Didn't this used to belong to @gareth, or have I got that wrong..

Anyway, its fab, mojo-rich bass so have a BUMP on me!

    GLWTS 😊

No I think Ped got it from the USA?

Love the wear down to the wood on the body - proof that the bass has been used rather than hung on someone’s wall

    Try another passive G&L Ped

Maybe an L1000 or an L100

Is that a rubbish rhyme dissing American rap, or is it an embarrassingly poor typo in the middle of a diss, which makes the diss-pissssss poor, like a fool tripping on his laces walking out the door? I never heard anything like that before(!), but the lack of originality means my jaw don’t drop to the floor, so are you sure you don’t need to spell check yourself before you wreck yourself, coz mistakes in your posts are bad for your health.

    It’s da trooth innit
