  1. GR Bass doesn't make any powered cab...

I own a GR Bass AeroTech Full Carbon Combo 800 (8.2 kilos for 800 Watts at 4 Ohms and can even go down to 2.7 Ohms) and a GR Bass AeroTech Full Carbon 112+ Cabinet (6.3 kilos for 450 Watts at 8 ohms) and it's a back saver.

You won't find anything lighter and so powerful right now.

In an ideal world basses would use 18V used to create +9, 0, -9V. That is what the chips need but it would require an on/off switch on the bass rather than rely on a stereo jack socket.

This is exactly how the MTD-Bartolini preamp is working and, to me, the only one on the market, but you can't buy it as its only made for Mike Tobias.

  3. Just a slight correction @Waddo Soqable: on the aluminium neck Kramer basses (and guitars) it's bakelite not ebonol.

That said, the mwah comes from the hardness of the fingerboard coupled to the close to no relief of the neck.

So, the harder the fingerboard and the straighter the neck, the more mwah you get.

I tried almost everything on fretless basses and my favourites are in order of preference:

    1. Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) for its added low mids and singing highs.

    2. Stainless steel or delta metal for their integrity and evenness, and no it's not zingy at all, it's in between Brazilian rosewood and Macassar ebony tone wise.

    3. Macassar ebony (Diospyros celebica) for its faster attack.

    4. Mozambican ebony (Dalbergia melanoxylon) for its over the top mwah.

    5. Pau Ferro (Machaerium scleroxylon) for its rich and fat tone.

I really don't like maple nor ebonol or synthetic fingerboards, because they sound sterile to my ears.

It is fitted with a brand new set of Rotosound RS66LD stainless steel wound strings (45 - 65 - 80 - 105), which really serve this bass for that Geddy Lee sound and way much more.

The best neck Fender has ever made according to everybody and it also come with two pickguards (the white one still has its protection film on it and is a WD, the black one is the original).

What you see is what you get !

Look carefully at the photos taken from different angles and lights to see the real condition, which is very good for its age with some obvious marks and dings, the 4 main ones being circled in red, and 2 holes under the pickguard for a thumb rest.

Here is the link to the 40 photos: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1niriDAEKbbJ1L3of6cPvS-I6cUQpuOzq?usp=drive_link

Due to severe back problems (67% officially disabled because of it) plus right shoulder injury (non-operable capsulitis from which, after more than 4 years, I will never fully recover), I'm selling all my basses over 4 kilos and also the ones I'm not really using as well as some stuff I don't use. I've also considerably lowered the price for a quick sale.

Don't hesitate to ask for more.

Jaco Pastorius at his best, nothing else to say, really listening to the others (Lyle Mays and Michael Brecker when he plays) and playing with Don Alias, not against him.

I think Joni Mitchell was the only one who has ever been able to canalise him the right way.

Pat Metheny is also excellent as well as Joni Mitchell of course.

Yeh, but powering something that uses a 9v battery with an 18V battery doesn't make it last twice as long - if you have to make a zero crossing, you have a resistor chain in the middle. An amp is a series of resistor chains and as I = V/R, if you double the V, you double the I going through, so you are using more power in the same circuit.

If there is any problem with the time a battery lasts in an active bass, its time to find a reason - a battery in a bass pre-amp should last ages.

That's why I've always preferred those fake 18 Volts preamps running on 9 Volts, like, for instance the Mike Pope Flexcore.

  7. Mildje!: My project almost 20 years ago with 3 basses and 1 drummer and a single track of 45 minutes named Stuyvenbergh (which means mountain of dust in ancient Dutch) and subtitled Arhythmic Deconstruction... It says enough.

6 months of rehearsal for a unique concert that was sold out...
