1. I think it doesn't matter if you don't do flashy, you enjoy what you do and it fits with the style of music you play. The important thing is having a bass that gives you what you need, the sound that sings to you. If you get that joy from a more expensive bass, then that's all the justification you need.
2. I didn't get him until I saw him in concert. Sad loss, so talented, he could do it all. The BBC repeated a great documentary on his career, in case anyone missed it http://www.bbc.co.uk...-a-purple-reign
3. This is great. Not a super Neil Young fan but my brother is and heard a lot growing up. I love that early on when a producer complained that he was singing out of tune, Young replied, "Man, that's my style!".
4.
The whole of the song depends how good your drummer is IMHO If you have a drummer who can learn all the stabs etc at the end of the verses etc, and you can as well, it sounds so tight. -
Initially thought apart from intro, wasn't that interested, and it was in the set for the lead guitarist. But having learnt it, I love playing it live. It is all down to nailing the timing from the flowing verses to the tranisitions and the final unison riff in the outro. Agree with Gapiro, it's vital drummer learns it too. Take it as a challenge to play something you don't like.
5. When I think of southern rock/soul I think about Muscle Shoals. Not sure that hasn't been already used or punters would connect with?
