    Dunno about that.
I've seen many instances of apostrophe errors and even some occurrences of regular nouns written with capital first letters.

Not to mention ending sentences with prepositions...

Both myself and my guitarist have pulled the trigger (mostly out of curiosity) on a pink coral EastCoast super strat and a Cream EastCoast Tele. Both with Roasted Maple necks, both quite reasonable spec, both £99 new delivered...

Can these be even half decent?? The reviews suggest so. I'm not 100% convinced, but for £99 we thought we'd take a punt. Will report back when delivered and tested. Could be the steal of the century or a waste of time and money!

"The EastCoast ST2 is EastCoast's superb version of the classic double-cutaway, bolt on neck electric guitar, rigged with a pair of chiming singlecoils and a meaty humbucker in the bridge position".

So if it is anything less than"superb" get down to Trading Standards!

You asked! We delivered! As it happens, shortly after my post, a day or so I guess, the pot got stirred at BGM HQ. We have a new 'digital guy' on board and already things are starting to look so much better. Thumbnails are now a thing, new stings and music are being created and there's a whole bunch of new stuff on the way!

I've also taken on the comments in a positive way and, although the two reviews that are on their way now were recorded before this chat, I've been taking a few "lessons" from some public speaking geniuses that I hope will improve my delivery and make my videos more engaging with a better pace.

I will keep checking in BassChat, because I do give a sh*t and frankly, we've had a relationship here longer than any romantic one in my life. Jeez, you get less for murder, yahda yahda yahda!

Oh and I still need you to share my reviews and posts, positively comment on my BGM videos, please and thank you!

What I always found useful/interesting was when the reviewer would gig the gear.

I appreciate this might not always be possible for you.

I haven't subscribed to a printed magazine since Beat Instrumental closed, used to pay the local newsagent up front to get me my copy.

P.S. Probably the young BassChatters have never heard of Beat Instrumental, which along with Bell's catalogue were the gear Bibles back in the Day.

Remember the free 'Making Music' magazine?

I still have my Sidewinder from 1985. Everytime I get it out of the bag I have to adjust the truss rod and the pickups pick up mains hum to the extent its unplayable in a theatre. 🤣

    Think it was £120 new.

There was a free music magazine called Making Music, who absolutely loved the Marlin Sidewinders.

They must have been on the payroll 😉

    Indeed.

Yes, prices have gone up a lot in the past few years, but at the same time I don't think there's been a better time than now to buy a cheap instrument that is also decent.

Where's the line between "a decent bass for the price" and "a decent bass"?

  7. "who are your influences" often translates as "who are your favourite players", but these are completely different questions.

I 💕 Bootsy Collins (as indeed you all should 😜) but I don't play or sound anything like him.

I've been influenced by @Steve Lawson not necessarily his (amazing) playing, but more his philosophy.

The main influence on my bass playing is classical guitar, because that's where my technique comes from.

But to answer the OP, yes, I was asked who my favourite bassists are when I joined my Alt-Country/Americana band, and none of them were from that genre 😆

One thing I hate to see is fingerstyle playing with a bass really high, I really don't like that limp wrist look. Absolutely not for me.

What about finger style and really low?

I have the strap length the same sitting down or standing .  As told by Billy Sheehan .

Me too. But on one strap I have an extra strap lock further down so I can lower the bass and look cool 😊

OK, so I'm just a 'home' musician. I have a few basses, but I sort of went off bass playing a number of years ago. I lost the spark, lost the mojo.

I figured that I might get it back a year (or two?) ago by designing and building a bass. I had a thread about it somewhere but it died off towards the end (the thread not the bass!).

Well, I made the bass, never got it finished totally but it was playable. It lacked a bit of something and ended up back in the case for most of the last year. I have other instruments that I was more into.

Anyway, for reasons unknown I dug it out again yesterday, set it up properly and it just clicked! I have had great fun playing it the past 2 days!

All good, but ..... I have the urge to stain the body, so it's literally all in pieces again now! Hopefully I can get it all sorted whilst I am still high on interest.

    That is all.

The bit of something it lacked, was cured by a good set up? It's often the case, I've never understood how you can try an instrument on display in a music shop that plays terribly, when it could have been tweaked for 5-10 mins to be playable.
