Excuse me for my ignorance and not being of much help to OP, but what the hell does "Grade 7 Level Metal" mean, and how do you measure it?

Also how many Grades are there?

    360?

With Grade 360 being the same as Grade 1, coming full circle?

What is even a Grade 1 song, 2 chords only picking 1/4 root notes?

    Sounds silly to me.

Grades 1 to 8, in music theory or performance. Grade 5 was O level equivalent, and Grade 8 was A level equivalent. Some universities accepted Grade 8 in place of an A level for their music courses.

The offspring (my daughter, not the terrible pop punkers) is working on a uni audition and needs a few grade 7 recordings and she wants one of them to be a metal piece to show what she loves most.

Any suggestions for interesting, preferably not prog metal bass lines?

    Edit :

needs to be 4 string and preferably not involve tuning below C#

    According to the examining board:

    STEVE VAI The Crying Machine

    MUSE Hysteria

    BLACK SABBATH N.I.B.

LEVEL 42 The Sun Goes Down

    GREEN DAY Welcome to Paradise

    KATE BUSH Babooshka

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Higher Ground

I couldn’t move fast enough to stop Gary Glitter’s “Rock N Roll Christmas” piping up from the Christmas tunes CD I put on this morning. Not having that on thanks.

Why? It's still a great song, and definitely one of the better Christmas songs. And as Glitter sold the rights in 1997 he doesn't earn any money from it.

While we're talking festive gigs, we've been asked for our (pub) NYE gig to play 5 x 30 min sets, starting at 8pm, and with half an hour in between each...never encountered this before, and I'm inclined to think it'll make the evening very staccato between live music and DJ'd tunes...apparently the landlord's idea...

    Anyone done this setup before?

Depends on the audience. Be careful you are not playing to people who when the band are on, clear the dancefloor and are just waiting for the DJ to play the latest songs from the Hit Parade.

  5. I've only bought 2 bass related things this year.

TGI Ultimate Gig Bag, which was bought for Shuker no 3, and is the best purchase because there is plenty of space at the top for my tuners which face down, rather than across.

The other purchase is also best 😁

A Pocket Pod, which is an amazing practice tool. Utterly convenient, portable and easy to use.
