I did one in one out for a while just as a self imposed rule........I ended up regretting a sale though so now it's one in then, maybe 6 months later once I'm fully on board with the new bass, it's potentially one out if I need it. I've also decided to put my basses on wall hangers as that sets a limit on how many I can have 😁

It's a shame the Squier has already been sold. I would have very generously offered the option of you keeping it and selling the SB1 to me 😃
The LB100 looks ace and I'm sure it plays like a dream too!

That's quite poor, none of the usual sites (All music, Discogs) have any additional muso credits. Al Jackson Jr and Booker T have producer credits, so I ' d guess it was Al on drums, Booker T on keys and Donald Duck Dunn on bass. They were the house band on a lot of Stax recordings.
Those sites were my first port of call too, I've tried to find pics of the original LP to see if there's any mention of personnel but it doesn't look like anyone is listed there either.
I've just seen this site....
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/steve-cropper-pops-staples-albert-king/jammed-together/One person there mentions Jackson on drums but drops Isaac Hayes as keys. Can't say I know either of them well enough to say it sounds like one over the other tbf. No mentions of a bass player, but it could well be Dunn - good shout!

I've only just come across this and thought I'd break the mould a bit by posting a full album........
Albert King, Steve Cropper and Pop Staples jamming out some ace tunes. What's not to love about this?
Really excellent work on bass and drums too. I can't find any info on the other musicians on the LP, so if anyone knows then I'd love to hear who's doing what!

But think of the poses you could pull and how it'd go with a spandex catsuit!

And who said Gibson don't know what they're doing when it comes to basses?!?
That little gadget is exactly what I need and I'm surprised Fender don't make an equivalent, especially seeing as they removed the mute from under the bridge cover.
I'll see if I can find someone who does metal work and see what they'll charge for knocking something like this up. It might be pretty expensive though and the lollipop route might come out the winner!

But I kinda like it. Not sure if I've seen one of these out in the wild before either......

I've always wondered whether the bridge cover could be attached with magnets instead of screws, which would enable you to pop it off easily - along with the mute, which could be stuck to it.
That would be a great idea. If they could be placed under the body so they were invisible it'd be pretty cool! -

I’ve done untold experiments with various foam mutes, (hence why there’s no washing up sponges left in the house 😁) we had another thread on it, but I haven’t done one under the bridge cover, can’t you leave the foam longer so you can pull it out easy , or if that mutes too much cut the bit sticking out up at an angle so it’s not touching the strings, kinda like this
I tried leaving it longer and having the foam outside from under the cover, but that mutes a little too much for my liking.
Cutting a ramp in could work though. I'd be worried about my clumsy hands ripping it off, but will give it a whirl

I do remember someone installing some kind of sprung mute on a short-scale Fender - possibly a Mustang? - and it sort of 'popping' on and off with the heel of the hand to activate it. It might be possible to jury-rig something on the inside of the bridge cover like that, but no idea where you'd start!
Is it the Jaguar mute you're thinking of?
It's spring loaded, but requires quite a sizeable hole in the middle for the spring and won't fit under the cover. Not sure I'm adventurous enough to drill a hole that big in my bass!
I was supposed to chuck the pic of it here, but my phone put it at the end of the reply......

I reckon you could make a similar T shaped piece of wood to glue a chunk of foam to which would fit under the cover and leave a little tab to grab for removal. You could even use a tonewood lollypop stick and retire on the proceeds. I want 50%.
Ahhh, I suppose a bit of wood would look better than a bit of string. You could be on to something. Have you experimented with different lollies? Any idea if a Fab would sound different compared to a Twister or Feast?

You're welcome 😂😉
You joke, but this was considered so I could have a PBass with flats/foam and another with rounds 😂

These really are superb basses with lovely necks. If this was the model with the maple neck I'd be tempted.
On the plus side, if it doesn't sell you get to keep a hold of a fantastic PBass!!

Yup, it's another how is it best to mute thread.......but slightly different!
I have a PBass with a bridge cover and have been messing around with how to best use a mute with it. I've found just cutting a few slits in a bit of sponge and placing them over the top of the strings works best for me.
However, the best tone to my ears is when I shove the sponge right unde the bridge cover. This has just enough of a muting effect and also has the bonus of hiding a bit of sponge under the cover. Great!
What's not so great is that if I wanted to remove the mute for a song it's a bit fiddly to get the sponge out inbetween songs.
Does anyone know of any device that is essentially a mute that fits under a PBass cover and has a quick release?
As a bodge I could attach some string to the sponge so that I can easily pull it out, but I was wondering if there was a proper way of doing things.

That looks great.
If I didn't already have a P I'd be all over these I think.
Surely you need one with flats and one with rounds?!

I really like Bass Tabs by Jason. Most of his stuff is 70s blues rock, but he normally covers live versions with that extra bit of spice in them.
Jared from Beholden To The Riff is good too, he breaks the songs down into sections and makes it really easy to pick tunes up. Good for heavier stuff.

If you're after a particular tone and it's essential to your band then I'd go for a back up that was as close to your number one as possible. Or at least something that gets you in the ballpark.
However, just because I like different basses then I'd go for the single coil P. You could even put flats on it and play it with a damp sponge, the audience won't notice the difference 😁

HH tele's are a thing of beauty, great choice!
Great setlist too - are you going for Motordamn's version of ballroom blitz?!
If you have socials all setup then I'd be interested in giving you a follow seeing as you're roughly in my neck of the woods too!

Something you can shale your bum to......
I love this version, mostly for the energy in it and Jeremy Spencer's voice.
There's loads of variations as John McVie noodles around the scales and I'm torn between trying to nail this version note for note or just make the whole thing up. I'll probably end up learning it then just making it up when we play it as a band. As long as the changes are in the right place and the turn around matches the guitar every now and again then that's all that really matters 😂

You'll have to find someone who can chuck another 2 strings onto a precision for you 😂
Great news and good luck with it!!

I thought the B neck = 1⅝", and 40mm = 1&9/16"?
Fender list the Nate M sig at 1.615", which is pretty much 41mm, though a little thinner than the standard modern P nut of 1.625" / 41.3mm
[In my head, 40mm aka 1+9/16" is an M neck .... because in the alphabet M lies exactly halfway between J and P 😬 ]
What's a mm between friends? 😁
Could well be right on that, I'm not 100% on Fender neck names and measurements. All I know is that the PB70US I had was a really great neck. If I could make it less tapered so it didn't widen out so much by the 12th fret then it'd be perfect.
PS. Love the reasoning behind the M neck name 😂

But back to nuts...ive just measured, my Sire P5 is 40mm at the nut and is another one that gives far pricier basses a good poke in the eye.
Danger. I've always fancied the look of one of those but the Andertons site lists them as 42mm so I've written them off.
Oh, hello GAS!

40mm is a very comfy size for me too. Gibson SG's are 40mm but also short scale, if that's any use to you? The Fender Precision B neck is 40mm, so the Nate Mendal and any 70s MIJ reissues would suit you.
If you're looking at HB sort of money then I think their enhanced range is 40mm, although I haven't played one myself.

Love the Hoax too. I'm not 100% sold on Beaux Gris Gris and the Apocolypse, but some of their tunes are decent.
