Dark is definitely different to dull to my ears. I think of a lot of grungey stuff when talking about a dark bass tone. These are a couple of my favourites.....

So they're essentially playing a CD of the original recordings? Is the vocal track a pre-recorded newer one, or is it the original recording too?

I'm not a big fan, but what Madonna has done and produced over her career is simply amazing. Have to say I'd be gutted if I was a fan and going to see this tour, I'm guessing tix aren't cheap and I'd feel swindled a bit.

With all the talk of Abba and holograms though - that got me thinking. Will we get to the point where (with improvements in AI/holo tech) we'll be able to see legendry live performances from artists that are no longer with us? Have to admit I'd be tempted to see a few of the below if the prices were right and it felt live...

Well that is ridiculous!!! How much is a Sterling 24 and Darkglass pedal?! No idea why someone would pay that much for this, but each to their own. It is a bit of an ask - especially considering the brittle tuners and almost non existent truss rod that went out in the purple Sterling 34. 

Absolutely dreadful! It was the first jam since May though as we've had honeymoons and holidays pretty much decimate our summer. We were expecting it to be loose, but not quite that bad 😂

We're back in tonight and it won't take long to sharpen up, so hopefully we have a better practice!

U2 aren't to my taste (and Bono's vox sound worse than ever in that vid), but those visuals are something else and the venue looks amazing. I'd really consider a trip out there to see a show if there was an artist on that I liked.

Has anyone checked out any other vids of the show? The one posted by the OP looks beautiful, but my first thought was I'd be annoyed paying all of that money to watch a big TV with tiny specs of dust beneath it. Looks like the band were on the screen for the majority of the gig 

Even better than the real thing (11.17) and Mysterious ways (5.09) look great.

No idea, haven't played a set of 77's before I'm afraid. 

I only decided to pick up a set of 760's the other week as I read that was Sean Hurley's preferred string choice and have to say I like them so far. Having a band rehearsal tomo night so should get an idea of how they sound at volume with the band, but everything sounds right at home. I had read about La Bella's being high tension so I was a bit apprehensive about them, especially seeing as playing with some Fender flats had left my fingers sore after a 3hr practice, but so far so good. They're a higher tension than the TI's, but I wouldn't say the tension is noticeably too high imo.

I would maybe give the Roto's a go first seeing as you have them already. That way you can see how you get on with flats in general without forking out for a new set? If you're happy with them and fancy experimenting then I'd either look at TI Jazz flats or a set of La Bella 760FL's. The TI's are a lower tension and sound punchier, but I've just whacked a set of the La Bella's on a P for the first time and have been impressed so far. They sound great and the tension hasn't been too much for me.

Over rated - Pretty much every off the shelf bass north of about £1k. There's so many manufacturers producing great basses at the lower end of the market that it's hard to justify spending lots of money on a new bass (unless you're getting yourself a treat).  

Under rated - The G&L Tribute range. They've snuck up in price over the past couple of years, but they're still fantastic value, well made and with great hardware (esp the models with MFD pups).

When I first started playing I grabbed whatever the local music shop had, Elites and Ernie Ball Slinkies mostly. Then I got into John Entwistle and started using Roto stainless steels, have been using them pretty much ever since. I have set on the Jazz I use in my more aggy band where I want that zing.

I use D'Addario XL's when I want a little more even tone from rounds and use them on a P in a blues band. They've been on a year or so and are nicely worn in.

I only got into flats about 4 years ago. Started with a Fender set but the tension made them feel like cables to me. TI Jazz flats are amazing, feel great and sound good to me. 

I've just picked up a new P and thought I'd try the whole La Bella's and P thing. I went in a bit apprehensive about the tension, but I really like them. Get to try them out at rehearsals this week so am looking forward to that!

Sounds like you have it planned in the right order - the loom should make a big difference and that'd be the first thing I'd look at. I haven't played one, but a lot of the videos I've seen can get that old school thump, so I'm sure you can get that with a bit of eq'ing rather than needing new pups. Good to hear the pups are a standard size if you do want to replace them - I really like the chrome covers they have so your new set might just slide straight in.

I'm slightly biased though (excuse the poor screen shot).....

Both look great, the tort is a really nice shade too. I reckon cream pup covers would go nicely with the tort......

Looks like the body is nicely matched and the neck is a nice colour too. I like the anodised plate, but tort will look cool as well.

I've played a couple in shops and iirc, the blonde is translucent. I've seen a few in shops that haven't been matched well and you can see some pretty blatant joins. So you can either risk a return if you're not happy with the finish, or just get the red?

Cracking basses though and these seem to be up there with the CV range to me.

I've seen a few threads on pickguards for these and reckon the original plate suits the Dakota red best. That bright red and the tint in the glossed neck just zing with the anodised plate!

Love Bruce Thomas' playing but, apart from a handful of tunes, I hate Elvis Costello.

For rounds I usually spend 20-25ish for either Rotosounds or D'Addario XLs.

And for flats it's 40-45ish for either TI Jazz or La Bellas.

About 20 years ago I almost bought a shell pink P with something like a 68p body and 69 maple J neck (can't remember the exact years) and I've had a longing for it ever since, so that was the inspiration for this (with a few added extras). I asked for the neck to be slightly more aged than the body and it looks fantastic!

So excited that I forgot to upload some pics! 

As well as the mute and decals, I also asked Mark if it was possible to supply an extra scratch plate that just covered the control cavity. He  came back with the genius idea of cutting the regular scratch plate so all I have to do is undo a couple of screws and then the bulk of the plate will lift off. Will show what that looks like when it arrives!

Sooooooooo, I've just got some pics from Mark. It just needs a final setup and will be shipped on Monday. To say I'm excited is a massive understatement!

I saw CVC a few weeks back at Wilderness and will be going to see them in Camden at the back end of Sept, really looking forward to it! They're a fantastic band and the album is well worth checking out, it's full of really tasty bass playing and Ben is the first bass player in a while from a new band that plays anything interesting (imo)

Congrats on a really lovely p bass! The necks on these are pretty easy to get around, despite being a bit chunky, and those pups are thunderous! I played one of these and a pro 2 in a shop not so long ago and thought the pro 2 sounded bland in comparison.
