1.
But not on Basschat, obviously.
No, there aren't many stupid people on here ;-)
 2. I dont have a really issue with them buying and selling, but i would expect them to contribute to our community rather than just come her to make a profit. This is the reason ive always thought members should rack up some posts before being allowed to sell things (sorry, i know thats off topic)
 3.
hmmm... Sold some stuff on here quite a while back and the guy told me that was the best offer he could make. I let them go for a reduced price (£400) and I thought he would be happy with the kit. A few weeks later they surfaced here with a hundred pound mark up...and I see he lists quite a bit of stuff. I wouldn't call him a dealer but I would think he does 'deal'.... Would I sell to him again... lets just say I would rather not... but that is just my perception of the place, here. Has it left a nasty taste..??
A similar thing happened to me. The guy said he had already owned a the same bass I was selling, but still asked where it was made. I thought that strange but so what, I got a sale. Checking this guy out it seemed he had a lot of sales on here but no community posts. Months later it was on here for more money being sold by a different member (with. Very low post count IIR), with no indication of its history, not even when I posted a light hearted post in the thread. That was totally ignored. It wasnt even mentioned that it was already secondhand. It had a couple of issues when I sold it, and I was up front about that, I'd also ripped it apart at some point to change pups and electrics etc. The new owner was well aware of its history, they got in touch with me, so it's all good, but to me it's obvious the are some people treating our once safe place as a cheaper, and less legal alternative to eBay etc, with no real beinifit to this community. it was at this point I felt BC was not the place it used to be. I'm careful now to who I sell things to. I am a good hearted person, and will let things go a bit cheaper to help others, but I will always check posting history now, and if I think it's just some one buying and selling they can look elsewhere for a bargain. They are doing nothing wrong of course, I just won't sell to some one I feel is just in it for the money.
 4. I dont mind if someone wants to make a profit out of buying and selling gear on here, but i do feel its a bit underhanded to avoid and/or lie about an item to do it. Ive seen it done (with gear that ive sold on here).
 5. Is it safe to come out of hiding yet? Honest Guv' i got 'em from Cash Converters last week lol. I did find the ABZ really eaay to play, no issue with the frets at all. It felt strange having the 5th string and that did get confusing a few times (I really buggered up the Start of the Jam's Start), but on the whole it was a very enjoyable experience. The Ibanez on the other hand was much more "me". My usual bass is a P and as much as i liked the ABZ i didnt feel comfortable with the tone as much as with the Ibanez. For me the tone was spot on. Its been a while since i had a PJ but i felt this combo is definitely the tone i should be using more. Im now on the lookout for one myself. Fran also took some great shots of us (sorry there wasnt much to work with) So a big thanks from all of us for coming along and enduring a social club on a Sat even. 6. I've not strayed too far from Fender like basses over the years. Ive had Fenders, 5 strings, Laklands, a SUB and SBMM Ray 34, but I always seem to come back to a simple 4 string. I'm more than happy playing my Squier CVP these days.. I've even tried to buy a new bass or two over the past few years but never found the need for it (in the past I never needed an excuse). I had the real pleasure of Playing a Dingwall ABZ last night at my gig (cheers again Fran). Wonderful bass in all ways, but it wasn't until the second set and I switched to a Frans Ibenez Roadster II, which is a 4 string PJ that I really felt at home, and this just confirmed that for me, anything other than a P type bass is just not needed.
 7.
You are missing the point. It is not a question of doing something a PC can't, its is a question of how it does it and with what rate of sucess and reliability.
Yep, and i see no reason in this day and age to suggest a PC cant be used as a DAW without any issues, unless you have figures to prove otherwise. Im not slating Macs, but it was the same argument years ago in the print and design industry, and now PC are in the majority if our customers are anything to go by (we only have one, a G5 just in case, had 4 10 years ago). But anyway, im not going to argue until im blue in the face, my opinion is just that, mine. Im sure the OP will make his own mind up.
 8.
I suppose the big deal is that Logic is only available for the Mac and Pro Tools generally approve any current Mac without issues.
This is the main reason i see Macs being used for. I'd love to see what a Mac can do that a PC cant, and for less money. Seeing as anyone who recommends a PC has already been branded a Fan boy, in a derogatory way (without any back up, as usual) , i cant see this ending in a good way. Then again, it is Friday.
 9.
That's racist, isn't it..?
No, not unless you say it twice ;-)
 10. An ugly bass is an ugly bass, no matter how well its looked after (IMO)
 11. That it would never be stolen from a gig, no matter how often it was left out at the end of the night at a Pikey festival.
 12. I expet my 74's will even more rare now, not that they are going anyway either.
 13.
It's always such a shame when someone like Andy retires without someone to pass it all on to. All that knowledge and experience, all gone
Andy's magic live on in our basses, we are the privileged ones :-)
 14. Mustang Sally In all seriousness ive never seen an empty dance floor when this is played (CD or band). We have a load (20+) of those master mix DJ albums on our iPod, and these cover almost any occasion. They aren't the ones where tracks lead in to each other, just compilations of different genres, like Party, 70's, 80's party, one hit wonders, Irish, pub, football, indie, Northern soul etc. Well worth having a look at, even if you dont buy them.
 15. I do feel that Rush have been very "samey" for the past decade. As much as i like them they seem to have stuck with a formula that, to me, is wearing a bit thin. Great musicians though, but i wouldn't pay to go and see them any more.
 16.
There's an obvious reply to this, but I'm not going to say it.
No, i wont say it either ;-)
 17. Is that Clarky on violin at 1min 44 sec? :-)
 18. Yes, it was uploaded almost 3 years ago. i bet he is really good by now Cant stand the first bit though. I cant understand why bass players feel the need to do that, other than to impress non bass players. He definitely has a talent though.
 19.
i've just bought a line 6 G30, not had a chance to try it out as i only took possetion last night but so far i'm impressed with the simplicity and the design, having the reciever on my pedalboard is a big plus point for me. i'm going to give it a try at my band practice tonight. Matt
I got one a few weeks ago to replace my 5 year old AKG system. Although ive never had any issues with the AKG, the G30 is a lot nicer to use. I love the fact that i can see the battery indicator on the receiver, the longer battery life, the fact that i dont have to set anything up (like antennas) and the fact that seems to have a much longer reach. It wasnt cheap, but i think it will last me for a good few years.
 20. Another vote for these. Although i do prefer high mass bridges i still have a vintage style Fender bridge that i felt was the best of its kind.
 21. A real shame indeed. I love the 74's in my Jazz and am so glad i had the chance to see what all the fuss was about. Andy has made some real gems, good for him that he can now put his feet up, knowing he has the respect of many of us around the world.
 22.
Always comes across as a top guy in interviews that I have seen... and he is such a musical player. There is sheer technique and then there is musicality to take it to the next level...he has loads of both, IMO.
Im assuming by the "musical player" comment that you aren't talking about Lemmy
 23.
You can power the pedal by USB apparantly, but i imagine it would need to be a USB port with a fair bit of power to it. My laptop USB isn't powerful enough to charge an iPad, and i doubt it would be powerful enough to power a pedal.
Not wanting to go off topic here but if you install a small app called Asus Ai Charger this will boost the voltage of any USB port your iPad is plugged in to, and allow you to charge the ipad. The iPad needs 10watts, most USB ports put out 5watts i believe. Its perfectly safe, ive been using it for a couple of years on all my PC's. 24.
I think you've mistaken me for another poster. I haven't uttered a word of criticism against your bass. What I said was that the graphite basses are a totally different instrument. Not quite sure how you make the jump to the copies being unplayable. CB
Well i posted in defence of mine, and your post followed mine with the statement "Once you've played an original graphite Steinberger, you'll see what we mean" Sorry if i got that wrong but im not sure what else to make of the "we mean" bit, other than that you are agreeing with the previous poster about something. You also said "I'm sure the modern wooden basses may be totally fine", so again, im assuming you are referring to my bass and i responded with that it was, and while the real thing will probably be better somehow, it doesn't take anything away from my bass being fine as well.. I meant no offence, but it seemed to me your comments were directed at me, and that you were agreeing with someone else's comments. No harm done. Im not trying to start an argument, just pointing out that i have no issues with the wooden bass.
 25.
Once you've played an original graphite Steinberger, you'll see what we mean. CB
No, i dont think i will. If i don't have any issues with the one i have i dont see how i suddenly will by playing the real deal. I have played the real thing, and im in no way comparing the two, but with all due resptect just because its made of wood doesn't not make it an unplayable bass.
