( Not the First) East Anglian Bass Bash (EABB) Saturday 2nd November 2019
Frank Blank replied to jonunders's topic in Events
This is a real shame, thank you for trying. -
I had no idea as I only play sitting down, excellent info.

I was unimpressed with the Ibanez Talman, but I played one straight after playing the Gretsch. What I’d do is make a note of all these basses and go try as many out as you can. At the risk of sounding like a broken record come along to a Bass Bash and you’d be able to try some out and no doubt get a chance to try out many Chowny basses as @Chownybass invariably rocks up with a plethora of shorties.
-
Try a Gretsch G2220, under £300 and that’s new, they are a little heavy but, imho, about the best short scale in the price range you are looking at. I couldn’t believe the build quality at this price point.

No, I doubt it too.

I was discussing this with the luthier who had a customer with the same problem as you and in his case the strings were fakes, not only that but the substance coming off the strings was toxic. Not that I’m saying yours is but it is something to watch out for. The amount of fake strings being produced in China is far greater than most people imagine. If you’ve been using a brand for a while and suddenly they are producing this blackening I’d certainly consider fakes as a possibility.

In fact, if you are anywhere in the vicinity of a Bass Bash you can try all sorts of basses and talk to a load of folk who know their stuff in a far less freaky atmosphere than that of a music shop surrounded by people who are interested in a sale rather than you finding a bass you really like. One of the brilliant things about this forum and the Bass Bashes is that since I’ve been a member every time I’ve entered a shop to buy something I am fully informed with brilliant unbiased info and can make my choices with a wealth of BC knowledge behind me. Go to a shop or a Bash try out everything, discuss any issues on here with the vast hive mind of experts and then buy a bass from the BC marketplace where you’ll get a much better bass than you may be able to afford if you bought it new... ...I sound like a fanatic don’t I? It’s just BC has completely, top to bottom, revolutionised every aspect of my bass playing experience. I wish I’d had access to something like this when I started out but, there were steam engines then, weren’t there.

You don't have to bring anything at all other than your good self, bring as much or as little as you like. -

I have yet to get my head around them. I’m sure I saw a post the other day linking to IRs to download from Line6 but I can’t find it now, perhaps I dreamt it?

Just ordered one, thanks for this!
