  1. Sandwiched between studio albums Machine Head and Burn, with Made in Japan for good measure, it'd be easy for this one to be overlooked. Shame, cos it's excellent and evidence that there was steam left in the Mk.II line-up but for Blackmore's shenanigans. Check it out if you haven't already.
  2. Wiki says it was recorded Feb-Jun '74 - it sounds like they used every minute of it. Experienced producer/engineer Ken Scott on board too.
  3. Well said that man. Its worth reminding that all those bands put thousands of hours in and the university circuit was great for them.
  4. For the first time in five decades I've sat and listened to this album properly. Talk about the planets of musicianship and creativity lining up! Awesome. Ps. It sounds great too.
  5. Have you been given permission from the mods to use a slopey blue font?
  6. OMG yes, what utter drivel that was. I must have blocked it out.
  7. The last three Floyd albums are the ones their back catalogue could do without. Final Cut was a Water's solo album and the last two said Pink Floyd on the tin but the content wasn't. David Gilmour has said Live 8 was like sleeping with your ex. To Roger the band without him might seem like your wife having an affair. He's got a point, I just wish he'd let it go. And the less said about Mrs. Gilmour's involvement the better.
  8. He did. The hatchet was sharpened.
  9. Another great empty solo is Snowy White's on Chinatown.
  10. Another great aspect are his references to blockers; Queen, Black Sabbath etc. Greedy bar stewards.
  11. One of my favourite bass albums is Travelling Without Moving by Jamiroqui with Stuart Zender. Mostly finger style but his slapping is subtle and tasteful.
  12. Lightweight, tons of features and 31 frets, I say again THIRTY ONE FRETS. Someone won't be able to resist 😂
  13. Thanks Big, I thought it was a wreck to tie in with the trashed look of the vid.
  14. Andy Summers embracing the roadworn concept in '83.
  15. Defo Mark Plati. Check out the BBC show he did and his Glasto spot.
  16. Slightly off topic, check out Yes, Roundabout, with Rick.
  17. I Can do thumb style on any song that starts in E and stays in E.
  18. As an aside...Mark Plati played Ashes to Ashes live instead of Gail Anne Dorsey. Can she slap?
  19. I think Rick B's great too, I can get lost in his stuff sometimes. I wouldn't describe Donna Lee as soloing, which I also dislike, it's an interpretation.
  20. I came across this by accident (fate?). The offenders are Samick.
  21. MDP's your source for this one.
  22. It's all in the fingers, just make them more versatile 😁
