1. Just tried the Little Mark Tube out at Andertons in Guildford. Nice bassy sound, but very little difference between the solid state and valve pre's :)

One of my favourite live sounds was a function band a couple of years back with a LM into two MB cabs, but when I play them they sound a bit muffled (even when going easy on the VLE control)

  2. High quality Boschma 6u rack case for sale

Light use (few rehearsals and one gig) since buying couple of months ago, so in great condition. Great way to protect your gear, but no longer needed as I'm going lightweight

Can post pics of the lids if needed, but they're in excellent condition also

Looking for £65 (with collection from near Guildford or plus P&P)

    Just pm any interest

    Cheers

    Stu

  3. Selling my 'as new' Lexicon MX300 rack multi-effects unit. Bought it couple of months ago, but then decided to sell my rackmount amp and go lightweight... doh!

Anyway, this is a high quality rack unit that can be used for bass, guitar, keys or vocals and it handles compression, reverb, chorus, delay etc. with up to two effects at a time. It's a doddle to programme (I'm a bit of a luddite and even I managed to work it out within 5 mins without even consulting the manual!) and can also be connected via USB to your computer / DAW for use as outboard effects to save overloading your processor.

    Further info and reviews below:

I'm looking for [s]£190[/s] reduced to £170 ono (with collection from near Guildford or plus P&P). Still have the box, manual etc.

Just pm any interest or questions

    Thanks

    Stu

  4. Sorry received an earlier reply and sold to very nice bloke who travelled all the way from Ipswich
Hi Stu

on your return, please reply to this message if the guitar is unsold. also live near guildford so am very interested.

    Many thanks
5. Well, I'm getting close to 40 and my back is telling me I no longer need my lovely Mesa 400+ :) (that said, if you're after an all valve amp it's one of the lighter ones)

I am the third owner of the amp (still have the original receipt) and it appears that it has been very well cared for. Very slight scratch in the paint on the right hand handle is just about visible, but otherwise it's in excellent condition. Needless to say it sounds lush  and they have recently been discontinued fairly recently so you can't get them new

I have changed the drive valve for a Mullard ECC81 which adds to the smooth valvey tone and makes the EQ much more responsive. However, I can include the original drive valve should someone want to change back.

Will post some photos over the next day or two but (to save you google-ing them) here's some reviews below:

    Lexicon MX300 reviews

Ideally I'd like to sell it with the Boschma black 6U case and Lexicon MX300 rack effects unit (I've only just bought both... doh!... and they are as new) and would be asking £1,000 for the lot. Appreciate it's a bit of a long-shot selling these all together, so if you are only interested in one or two of these just pm me what you think is a fair offer.

In the unlikely event that you have a R500, Shuttle Max, Shuttle 6.0 / 112T combo, Barefaced Compact, or Bergantino 112ER we may be able to agree a partial trade.

EDIT - I have also decided to sell my Dr Bass 1580 cab for £425 ovno (scroll down for details)

I'm based near Guildford in Surrey if anyone is interested and wants to try it out

    Cheers

    Stu

  6. Our band (Pilgrims) is playing Jagz in Ascot this Friday 21st August

No happy-clapping involved despite the name and thought I'd give loads of notice, as just back from holiday and a bit rusty. So I you want to feel good about the standard of your bass playing why not come along :)

Obligatory myspace link in my signature.

    Cheers

    Stu

  7. Bought as back-up bass and simply not being used so I've decided to part with it

Previously bought off The Beat (Alistair) and has sat in a hard case in our house ever since (a waste  ).

    Ibanez AGB200 (Transparent Brown)

I don't have photos at present but it looks just like the pic above and in mint condition.

Prefer collection which also gives you a chance to try it out first. I'm bassed (ho, ho) near Guildford (Surrey) but on hols for couple of weeks. Will answer PM's on return from hols in order received and first concrete offer at asking price gets it. Not interested in trades unless possibly for a good quality onboard pre-amp.

    Thanks folks :)

  8.
My experience would be to get the 6.0 head on its own and pair it with something still light, but slightly larger.
Was thinking about that but the combo would be handy for practicing around the house... but only if it can cut it for small to mid sized gigs. If it can't, I may as well go the the route of light cab (compact, bergs etc.)

  9. Considering going from the sublime (all tube) to the ridiculous (featherweight combo) in terms of weight, and looking at the shuttle combos with the nifty saddle contraption on the top. Would prefer to go for the 6.0 with more power and the tube pre, but the 3.0 is significantly cheaper

Really interested in the views of anyone who has or has tried the shuttle combos, especially about the quality of the speaker, how loud it would go, whether it would cope with with small / mid sized pub gigs etc.

    Ta muchly :)

  10. Cheers for the advice - great stuff and all bases covered!
Get a trolley or something, you won't get a full valve sound from a lightweight amp.
You're probably right. Just a question about how close it can get. I'm currently thinking that given the audience doesn't really notice anyway, as long as I'm happy it's close enough (and it saves my back) I may have to settle for a 'valve-like' sound
Maybe get a lightweight cab but keep the amp?
Maybe but current Dr Bass is only about 23kg's (although one of Alex's Compacts may save a few kg's)
I was fascinated by the "getting old" comment
Yeh, state of mind totally. I feel like a Victorian Dad when other members of our band are chatting to other bands they know (they're c.8-9 years younger than me). I still act like a kid a lot of the time tho' :D
Old for a bloke is when you become completely invisible to teenage girls!
You probably need to get out and try a few light weight rigs.
Great advice, as too often we buy gear without even trying it  . Will try to get out and try a few (top of list are TC Rebelhead, Shuttle and R500). If they can't get close enough I'll probably go with the trolley option
Seriously, put your health first, you don't want to make your back worse.
I've felt like I'm 84 for the past 18 months.
Probably the best advice received so far. Sorry you've been suffering - hope it gets sorted soon.
If you're happy with the Mesa then gigging with it on average once a month shouldn't be too much of a bind. Just get a lightweight head or combo for rehearsing
Just feels a bit of an extravagance using an expensive head just once a month... but if I can get a cheap lightweight head for rehearsals that could work. Hmmmmmmm...
Keep it downstairs. That would help your knees!
Good idea but Mrs.Happybunny would not be happy bunny no longer if my amp head cluttered her warren
stana stair lift?
That's what I'm trying to avoid ending up in :)

    Cheers everyone for the advice!

  11. Here's my dilemma...

I'm 38 and bought the bass amp of my dreams (Mesa 400+) a year or two back. Great sound, especially after mastering the EQ and popping a Mullard 12AT7 into the pre-amp section  We only gig about 10-12 times per year, but practice with band every week. This means carrying the amp (then the cab) from the cupboard in our bedroom (where it lives), down the stairs and out to the car. Same deal when I get to the rehearsal and then come back home.

Until recently this was just a minor hassle (worth it for the sound!) but recently knackered my back/neck (not by carrying the mesa, and not seriously - now recovered). I've taken it as a bit of sign that I'm not as young as I was, that I shouldn't risk my back and may need to go lightweight option (or that I am a bit of a lightweight :)).

    Soooo...

    * should I sell the Mesa? (or get a trolley etc.)
    * if I do sell, what lightweight amp would get closest to the Mesa all-tube sound? (was thinking GB Shuttle 6 or MB R500)

Can't seem to make sense on this one, so I'd really appreciate some advice from you fine folks

    Thanks

    Stu

  12. Grillz
+1 to all that. I'd LOVE Mesa cabs, but I don't have a road crew.

Also, to go off on a slight tangent...

  13. Oh, that Lakland is soooo gorgeous

Any idea when the Lakland shortie will be available?

*shuffles off to empty piggie bank*

oh no, just found this Talkbass Lakland shortie thread

And the Lakland home page says the short scale is 'coming soon'.
14. I have the 1580 and have been very pleased with it. Sound is round, full and bassy as I was expecting. Great paired up with mesa 400+. Excellent build quality with tough spray on finish that should last years. Robbie at RIM is a great guy to deal with (never met him, but communication and response good on email) Think he's suffered from delays in deliveries from US but if you buy from stock should not be problem. May be worth a call to Robbie to see if you could try one out (IIRC he's in Luton) or if you're ever near Guildford give me a shout and you can try my cab out

I can't compare to Alex's Barefaced Bass cabs but hearing good things about them also
