    Soundproofing

    Many thanks folks for the advice - dry, warm(ish) and soundproofed sounds good :huh: . Regarding size, I'd ideally like about 3m x 2m, but would be flexible to fit in with planning rules :)

    I have been given the green light by HWMBO to get an outside space where I can rehearse, record and noodle around on my bass to my hearts content without bothering her or the kids :)

    I don't have oodles of cash, so was thinking about soundproofing a standard shed (so I don't need planning permission) but despite googling for various tips don't have much of a clue where to start, soooo...

    * would it be worth going to the effort of sound proofing a shed, or will this end up leaking sound
    * am I better off getting a cheapish prefabricated soundproof booth (...and if so, what types of soundproof structures are available)
    * er....any other options or words of wisdom welcomed!!

    Mark Bass Jeff Berlin Combo

    As the title says... I've decided to sell my beloved Mark Bass Jeff Berlin combo.

    It's a really, really great combo as reviews on Harmony Central will confirm:

    It's lightweight, powerful and sounds great at low or high volume - in fact it's the perfect 'do it all' combo.

    Reason for selling is that I've [s]lost my marbles[/s] :) decided to go for an all tube head (sublime to the ridiculous!!) as I've always wanted one. In a perfect world I would keep this as well, but can't justify it to HWMBO :huh:

    Price-wise these are going for £890 at Thomann. This one is in excellent condition, so I was thinking [s]£675 o.n.o.[/s] - now reduced to [s]£625[/s] NOW ONLY £600 (no trades thanks)

    I will be away on holiday from Friday 15th Aug, and back on Sunday 31st August. Will try to post photos before I go and will answer any p.m.'s in the order they arrive. The first committed 'I'll have it' will win :huh:

    I'm based in Surrey, work in Reading and may be able to meet up dependent on distance. Anyway let me know if any interest.

    Recording studio tips

    Well then... recorded this weekend with the band (Pilgrims) at Empora in Burgess Hill (near Brighton), and the rough mix is sounding good.

    Mark (engineer / owner) did a cracking job and we managed to get four tracks down. First experience recording and the best advice was: rehearse (a lot!) before you go in, and take a good book :huh: (there is a LOT of waiting around!). I'd recommend Mark's place - nice relaxed approach. It is NOT a really plush palace stocked full of vintage gear, but he's professional, patient, good value and really helped us make progress.

    Drums (sounding awesome) took almost a day, guitar most of a day, vocals several hours, bass just two hours (went surprisingly smoothly :) ) and some extra percussion (couple of hours). Mixing may need an extra half a day.

    Will post tracks when they're mixed down (couple of weeks after I come back from my hols)

    Compact cabs that suit valve amps

    thanks guys - the reason for the question was that I had heard the Epi comment in the past and assumed that some cabs 'like' valves and some don't. I've heard that Acme's in particular are well suited to valves but was just looking for bit guidance rather than pot luck :) I'm thinking schro... either 1212L or 410L (probably can't afford the latter.... or the former :huh: )

    Chris - doing well thanks. In new band and recording demo next weekend. Only problem is gas (hence the post!). Hope that Epi is doing well for you
