1. Thanks - just watched it with my daughter... we're both in awe of Stevie's genius (much overused word). Also, the quote from Herbie Hancock (I think) that Stevie is "the pinnacle of what a human being can be" (or something like that) is just about the nicest comment about anyone, ever :)

  2. Bought Pete's Markbass TTE500. Super guy to deal with. 100% honest in description of the amp which arrived in great condition, good communication, really rapid posting, well wrapped etc.

We never met, as we're at opposite ends of the country, but he came across as a thoroughly nice guy and it was pleasure doing business with him :)

  3. After my latest round of amp GAS I have decided to sell my GB ShuttleMax 12.0

Great amp that contains two pre-amps which allows you to mix FET and Tube signals but also two power amps (one for each speaker output) enabling you to get up to 1200W dependent on combination of speakers.

    Specs and photo below:

It's in excellent condition, having mainly been used in the house. Comes with padded GB bag and GB footswitch.

    Price - [s]£650 including postage [/s] [s]offers in region of £600[/s] £500 :o for pick-up from London or Surrey

    (no trades, thanks)

At the moment I have a GB Shuttle 9.0 and a MB TTE500, both have thier good points and both are great amps, but I'm still looking for more.

interesting.... I'm considering MB TTE500 in search of tube amp tone. What is it that you think it is lacking?

  5. Was going to mention Steve Hanley (The Fall) who I think is a great under-rated bass player, then found this via google...

...which pitches him several places above Bootsy

  6. Thanks - found a couple of articles on TB and an interesting quote (which I kind of suspected):

"Your Bass 400+ is at the all-time pinnacle of bass amps, so forget ever trying to replicate its tone."

  7. I still miss my Mesa 400+... although not the weight (sure you've heard that line several times before!)

Interested in whether it is possible to get a similar rich clean valve-y tone from a less back-breaking amp. As well as being blooming heavy, the 400+ seemed to give a 'weight' to the notes that I haven't experienced with other amps

Wondering if a less heavy Mesa (walkabout or similar?) or GK Fusion / Fusion 550 or something else could get close?

  8. i loved the tone that I was able to get from the Roland Bass Cube that I bought on BC and only sold it when I got in a band and needed more power. If you can get one second hand (I had the 30w version) it should be just north of £100, leaving plenty of cash for other bass toys. If you want to spend more money then maybe a Phil Jones Bass Briefcase may be a good bet for home use, but even that would leave plenty of change. Quite often the extra cash gets you far more power, lightweight, boutique 'name' but not necessarily better tone at low volumes  If you don't need the power then I'd agree with Doddy

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but.........

I spotted a Barefaced cab on Sarah Beenies programme "Double your House for Half the Money" just now.

I wonder is the owner a Basschatter as well as a TV star?

'Fess up if it's you. ;)

    Frank.

OK, time to fess up - it was me. Haven't been on BC for a bit but well spotted (Genz & Barefaced combo bit of a give away). Perhaps Alex can now add "as seen on TV" to his website ;)
