2. Recently bought this gorgeous Fender Custom Shop bass from Beedster (it was my turn to buy something from Chris, we've all been there)... all despite the fact that I'm currently unemployed and play a 4 string short-scale...hmmm*.

The original owner is a name player who most of you would have heard of. It is the sexiest bass that I have ever owned - Olympic White with light nitro finish, matching painted headstock and tortoiseshell pickguard. Also sounds great as Nordstrand PU's and circuitry were specified instead of the stock Fender units.

Well, I've come to my senses and decided that as I am currently still not working that I need to sadly need to let this beauty go. Comes complete with case, certificate of authenticity etc. In the end I realised that I need to stick to short scales and no more than 5 strings.

Chris's original ad was more detailed and amusing than I could manage (complete with Skoda pics ), so I have linked it below, complete with pics from the original owner:

I'm looking for a cash sale for what I paid for it (a firm but fair £1500). Possibly could be interested in a partial trade for high quality lightweight combo / amps / cabs but not other basses, so please don't offer. I'm based near Guildford and you're welcome to try before you buy.

    Thanks

    Stu

  3. I'm not 100% sure about this but here goes...

This is the best sounding (subjective opinion) and best looking (fact! :P ) amp that I have owned... and I've had some good ones. Originally bought from @Billy_Apple last year with some redundancy money* and arrived in mint condition. I have since bought 'Hot Cover' covers (highly recommended btw) to ensure that it stays that way.

However, I am thinking of selling it as unfortunately I still don't have a job and have just joined a band which means I need a smaller lightweight set up for rehearsals etc. and can't justify keeping the Matamp just for gigs

I would prefer cash (price is absolutely firm, so please no offers) but would consider partial trade for a high quality, loud gear - combo, head or cabs such as TecAmp, Glockenklang, Bergantino, TKS, Demeter, Acoustic Image or similar, with cash adjustment from you if needed.

    Thanks

    Stu

  4. Self-taught hobbyist who knows no theory but has been playing for almost 30 years. I have only recently taken the time to learn the notes on the fretboard  don't know scales and wouldn't know where to start with modes etc. However, I have played in four bands over the year (mainly originals), learnt songs by ear, written passable bass lines and would describe myself as solid-ish.

I suspect that because bass players are generally quite modest and unassuming, even players that I consider virtuosic would also describe themselves as 'solid'!

  5. I also have the BR-80. Great bit of kit. Simple to use once you get your head around the three modes: multi-track recorder, eband and live rec. Also works well for silent practice with headphones.

I have mine on my pedalboard at the end of the chain before my amp to be able to simply record ideas when practicing at home. It has a 3.5mm out but I bought a Grado 3.5mm to 1/4" connector which is excellent. Downside of this approach is needing to turn on BR-80 if this is in the signal path - but then that's no big deal

I probably wouldn't use it for multi-track recording but to simply record ideas and then dump them in Logic to manipulate. But then others may well do as that's just the way I prefer to work.

  6. Interesting the different approach taken by Robin Thicke (launch defensive legal case) and Sam Smith (apologise, hold hands up and agree a deal)

I also seem to remember that George Harrison said that he could name the song/artist that inspired almost all of the Beatles songs. Seems like there is a fine line between plagarism and inspiration

  7. I've been through a few amps in my time (both SS and Valve) and have come to the conclusion that you can't beat the warmth, heft and juicy richness of a good valve amp. That said, it undoubtedly just a personal preference...

Valves in the pre may or may not help but the sound of a SS amp probably owes more to the overall design of the SS amp rather than simply having funky glowing stuff in the pre (Genz Benz 12.0 shuttle sounded too sterile, but the Mark Bass TTE500 is as close as I've managed to valve-y goodness from SS).

However, there is no getting away from the fact that valve amps are not light so I'm going the route of valves for gigs (my luvverly MatAmp  ) and a loud-ish lightweight SS combo for grab and go rehearsals etc. Hopefully this will put an end to my bl**dy GAS!

  8. I use a TC Electronics Ditto x2 which is great. It has two switches - one for looping and one for reverse, 1/2 speed or stop. I hardly ever use the 1/2 speed (more for guitarists?).

There is also a simpler Ditto model that has just one switch. Best option, once you get some other recommendations, is to try them out in a shop and see what seems easiest. If you can work it out and patch in at the right time etc. in the shop, then you're probably onto a winner :)

  9. Thanks folks - interesting replies... so it seems like a flight case could work to raise up the cab nearer my ears (without being too boom-y), but that most folks here buy two cabs to stack... why does that not surprise me ;-) and that the wedge style only really works if you don't move around too much (probably ok for rehearsals and when using PA?)

Just wondering if anyone uses any other ways of raising the cab nearer their ears? Would popping a small cab on a table / chair / stands to raise it up work ok or is there a real danger of expensive kit crashing to the ground by it vibrating off or being pulled by a cable?

  10. I'm thinking of getting back into playing in a band and may struggle to lug my lovely tube amp to every practice.

So... would it be feasible to sit a small cab (Barefaced midget or similar) or combo on top of a flight case to get it raised to a level where I can hear it at reasonable volumes? (or would that add extra unwanted boom?)

Or would it be better to get a monitor style cab that can tilt back (like a Fearless f110) and simply angle up at my ears?

Would be interested in your thoughts

    Thanks

    Stu

  11. very, very excited with new pedalboard!

Korg Tuner (bypass out) -> TC Spark -> Infanem Improbability Drive -> Boss LS2 (Ch A in)

Korg Tuner (output) -> Spaceman WOW Signal mod'ed -> Boss LS2 (Ch B in)

Then Boss LS2 (output) -> TC Ditto x2 -> Boss Micro BR80
Tonnes of flexibility with signal path from clean, driven, modulated fuzz, loops and then able to record any ideas using the BR80

Will be having loads of fun playing with this set up :-D

  12. I find having a separate 'slush fund' for bass purposes essential - to avoid joint account inflicted misery... and asking forgiveness rather than permission

This is not 100% foolproof and can result in the odd "What is THAT?" type discussion... but on the whole it works better than the "I was thinking of buying a new bass" type approach

  13. Glad I bought my Junior yesterday - spent ages trying to decide which size to get, after modelling way too many options on pedalboardplanner.com

It's great to have more options (particularly if you can't find the size you need)... but for me, more choices = more phaffing on t'internet

  14. Pedal clear out to fund other purchases... just to think I supposedly gave up playing bass a few months ago!!

Fredric Effects - Green Russian Fuzz [s]£55[/s] £50 (inc. UK postage)
    http://www.fredric.c...ff-sovtek-clone
I know there are hundreds of big muff clones out there. This another good quality one made in the UK, and much, much smaller than the original... let's face it, what isn't! In excellent condition, with the only exception being a tiny scuff on the front left hand corner (hardly noticeable).

Malekko - Omnicron E Filter [s]£65[/s] £60 (inc. UK postage)
    http://malekkoheavyi...oduct/e-filter/
Tiny, tiny, tiny high quality analogue envelope filter. Has a really nice mellow-ish filter sound, rather than harsh spikes (if that makes any sense!). Ideal if you want to squeeze an envelope filter on your board but don't have much room. Needs a standard 9v power supply (does not run on batteries). Has velro on the bottom but could easily be removed if not needed.

DOD FX55-B Supra Distortion [s]£25[/s] £20 (inc. UK postage)
Now discontinued and worth a punt at this price. This pedal has been well used and has a few chips in the paintwork but nothing drastic. Important to note that the 9v power socket on the side has fallen inside the pedal and I can't get it out, so I have only used it with batteries. If you wanted to use it with power supply you could either retrieve the jack from under the pcb or use a specific cable to attach to the battery connector.

IF YOU WANTED TO TAKE THE FUZZ, FILTER AND DISTORTION YOU COULD HAVE THEM FOR £110 INC. POSTAGE

    [s]Korg DT10 Tuner £25 (inc. UK postage)

Built like a rock. Well used but still in good condition (couple of very minor scuffs)[/s]

Just PM me with any interest. I'll try to get some pics up soon.

    Thanks

    Stu

  15. Bought this pedal a week ago from Andertons. It is a great pedal with amazing reviews but I have decided that reverb is not for me and I'll put the money towards a fuzz/distortion instead.

Cost £109 but now available for £85 plus postage

    http://www.tcelectro...of-fame-reverb/

Includes box*, USB cable (for Toneprint updates) and the pedal which looks like new.

Would prefer cash unless you have a Malekko Diabolik that you want to move on (long shot I know!)

    Thanks

    Stu

    * I have cut the bar code out the cardboard box as part of the TC offer, but otherwise, is as new.

  16. Bought Sean's MatAmp amp and cab to replace another amp that I sold when I was planning to give up playing bass.

He's a top chap, both the amp and cab are in fantastic condition (they look new) and absolutely trouble-free sale - highly recommended seller!
