  1. Been using Doc's Pro Plugs for a while when playing and attending gigs adn wouldn't play without ear plugs. Whilst they protect my hearing I do fine they muffle every thing a bit. I'm going to give the Alpine Pro Filters a go. No one else in the band is using ear plugs at all!
  2. I've been watching the documentary and the following videos on Bbc4 tonight. Firstly, how have I missed out on Kate Bush all my life, I was aware of her major songs but never really paid attention. For shame! Earlier in my life, Wrong time, different interests, I guess. Bloody hell, these are some seriously amazing songs, voice, arrangements.... Secondly, her bass player on the first album I think it was Bruce Lynch, fantastic work supporting incredibly complex vocal lines and melody on wuthering heights and moving. Anyone know anything about him, wiki is sparse.
  3. I bought my Overwater/Tanglewood from Drew at Manchester Bass Lounge. Ranks as one of the best shopping experiences I've had. Free reign on a room full of basses, one on one service and advice. He's a good guy, I wish him all the best with the rebrand.
  4. I use a tartan print laundry bag to cover my TC combo. Looks like Nanna's come to gig.
  5. I'll be at the Manc one tonight too.
  6. Yes absolutely you can gig lower end basses. Currently gigging an Ibanez SRX530 (£260 new) and and an Overwater Tanglewood Classic J (£299 second hand). For the level of my ability, standard rock/hard rock covers and and the Pub venues I play they are more than adequate. Tuning needs minor adjustment every few songs but tone and playability they suit me fine for now. Perhaps in a few years I will be a bit more snobby and demanding.
  7. Hi all, I'm looking for a Portastudio to record band rehearsals as well as work on demos in basic a multittracking home studio. I don't plan to use any kind of DAW, just boot out MP3s on the computer. Does anyone have a view on whether the DP-003 is worth the extra outlay, having an inbuilt CD burner is nice but beyond that what justifies the extra £60. I believe they both record at 16 bit 44hrz. Are the on board mics the same quality? I want old school multitracking, decent enough onboard mastering and a quick route to out put the finished article. Any opinions and experience welcomed please folks.
  8. I very nearly bought a old Piano yesterday, this must stop. GAS. I readily acknowledge my weakness in this area and am seeking help
  9. Thanks inthedoghouse. I will avoid the For Sale section at all costs as I have some serious GASing at the moment. Got a Digitech Synth Wah last week and just picked up a bargain Morley Bad Horsie 2 on Ebay, primarily for guitar, but it may end up on the Bass pedalboard. Have needed to shield my eyes when reading the bank statement in recent months as I've invested in more and more gear for gigging.
  10. 2nd full gig for the band and this time at the B ath in Morecambe last night. Very different to the all round success of the first gig. Morecambe was like a ghost town on a Saturday night. Started with two men and a dog as an audience, mixed messages from staff about our start time so we did four songs the told to restart later! Weird vibe in the audience that did eventually grow to about thirty people. About 20 percent were in to it and the remainder fairly disinterested and muted reactions. Despite having our best on stage sound thus far and being fairly tight we all made some mistakes and I made a few clonkers in places I've never screwed up in before. Making my first attempts at backing vocals, need to get my head around playing and opening my yap at the same time. All in all one to chalk up as a learning experience.
  11. Thanks Bassface. Yes we have a date in January. I agree!
  12. Thanks Bareface. I've used Steve's tech services too, he's just down the road from me.
  13. Thanks for the kind welcome all
  14. Hi all, I've just joined after months of reading lots of great threads. I'm a relative newbie to bass playing after 20 years playing guitar (I'm in my mid thirties). I started on bass after sitting in on bass during a jam 18 months ago and having a minor revelation. I love the role of a Bass player in a band context and only wished I'd done this earlier. I moved rapidly through an Epiphone SG to Overwater/Tanglewood Classic J and now using a Ibanez SRX530 as my main instrument with a TC BG500 combo. I joined a classic/hard rock covers band back in May and we have started gigging recently. I had zero live performance experience prior to joing the band despite always wanting to be in a band and perform. My learning curve has been a sharp one and playing in a band has been massively beneficial to my learning, playing abilities and confidence. Our third gig is on Saturday. I look forward to chatting with some of you in the near future. Cheers, Ben
