  1. Played a local pub last night depping with a covers band I used to play regularly in. Used my AVRI Jazz with QPs through my Veyron tube into my Schroeder 1212L. I’ve been experimenting using different mid frequency centres on the Veyron and finding that using the lowest (220 hz I think) cuts me through the mix the best. Bass dialled right back, plenty of mid and top to taste and I had a corking tone. We had a good crowd and played and went down well, and home by 1140pm Happy Daze!

  2. Loving the orange V3. Also glad to see they've changed the V3 to a 9.5" radius fingerboard. It's looking like the V9 has been discontinued - hopefully that'll make mine become collectible 🤩🤩

  3. They’re versatile amps and yes, easy to fix for an amp tech. I’ve had a few Trace heads and they’ve all been much louder than their wattage would suggest. I’ve heard good things about those slotted cabs too and it looks in lovely condition!

My new ‘small’ rig. This started as the quest to find a small powerful gigable combo that wouldn’t break either my bank account or my back. Basschatter FunkyDoug was selling the rather tasty ABM NEO 400 1x15 combo locally, and then I spotted that Sharkfinger was selling the matching Neo series 1x15 cab for a very reasonable £75. So this is now the go to small rig for tight stages 😎

    And your 'Big Rig' is?!!

I owned one of these heads for a while and it sounded awesome with any cab option. These have the 400 watt mosfet power amp board as standard and depending on what transformer is fitted will be rated between 400-500 watts. You won't get much grind out of the valve input mix knob but it does add a glassy sheen to the tone that is quite something and not available on later ABM's. Enjoy!

So is this the first generation ABM? An EVOi so to speak?

I saw Stray a few years ago supporting Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash at Marshalls in Bletchley. That was when your predecessor Stu (who I knew vaguely through a mutual musician friend) was playing bass.

Yes - Stu is now living in Spain. We played with MT's Wishone Ash last year and I met Martin - Nice Guy!

  7. We had a really enjoyable gig at The Cavern in Raynes Park last night playing as ‘Del Bromham and Friends. It was a more intimate venue than we normally play, and it made a change to only have the keys, vocals and kick drum going through the PA - but it was really nice - hearing the guitar and bass as the musicians have voiced them!

We only played a handful of numbers by Stray, concentrating on Del’s solo stuff. We played a few we’d never played before including ‘Around The World in 80 Days’ (Del reckons even Stray had never done this one live), ‘Morning Dew’ and ‘I Am’ from the new album. We also played ‘Can’t Find My Way Home’ which I’d never played before and ‘White Feather’ which we’d only played once at The Stables PC (pre covid!).

WE had a great crowd and to top it all there was a fab chippy next door! Big thank you to our drummist for the long derrière drive there and back, Noel, the Guvnor for his welcome and enthusiasm,  and everyone who turned up for keeping music live!

  8. I’ve got a Veyron that is my main squeeze. I’ve also had a LH500. Both the Veyron and the Hartke are as loud as you’ll ever need, never mind the 1000!

Theres no pre post switch on the hartke for DI so you have to use a jack from the tuner (I think) socket for post eq DI.

The Hartke’s tone stack isn’t very intuitive but it does sound really good. It’s very clean so forget about valve drive.

The Bugera is incredibly loud. Well equipped and more intuitive to use. Also has an onboard compressor which sounds good if used sparingly.

it sounds like the Hartke you’ve bought is faulty sadly. I’ve read about similar issues with these in the past.

Hope this helps. For me, they’re both good amps but I’d go for the Bugera.
