  1. Sorry - realised that this is in the wrong section and should be in Accessories and Misc.

After trying a range of bass strings I have settled on D'Addario ETB92 tapewounds as my preferred choice on both my Jazz and Precision basses. I love 'em. They can can be mellow, but they also have some bite. They are easy on the fingers and on the frets (and fretboard if fretless). And they last a long, long time. So far, so good.

This weekend I put some new tapewounds on my Precision. The A, D and G strings were as I expected - smooth and just like the ones on my Jazz. However, the E string was different - it was rougher (I can feel the grooves) with some of the metal shining through. This is unlike the E string on my Jazz. What can I do? Will D'Addario's UK customer service be able to help?

The flea jazz is a great looking bass. Love the nitro finish and tort scratch plate. I've never played one, but I did own a '76 jazz bass with similar pick ups and it sounded great. The Guy Pratt bass is half the price though!

Fair comment! I've now got nylon tape wounds on my Flea bass. Nearest I can get to a Herbie Flowers tribute bass!

  3. Very lucky to have seen them on their last tour in the UK - Clockwork Angels. Brilliant. Got a ticket last minute, drove up and had a blast.

My room mate at uni in the late 80s was a huge Rush fan and tried to get me into them (quite rightly) but I was having none of it. He had a huge Presto poster above his bed. He was at the O2 for the show as well but it was a bit trickier to meet up than I thought. I was in the cheap, vertical seats and he was downstairs. Ironically, my phone signal was rubbish.

  4. I thought going short scale would be a solution to my arthritis/tennis elbow and got a Mustang this year.  It made it worse. It seems that a jazz neck is the best (for me) especially the u shape of the Flea Jazz. Horses for courses I guess.

I think this was always gonna be a ‘limited production run’ model. In interviews JMJ has said that there isn’t a high margin on these models so maybe fender are shifting to the new range as the non relic alternative.

    What he said ^^

I'm surprised that the JMJ is discontinued already - it is still listed on Fender.com.

I wonder how many were made in total 🤔

There are some still listed on other sellers's pages. Maybe it's Andertons that have discontinued them. The Flea bass is still available. Would love to see a Klaus Voorman p bass if Fender were to bring out another artist signature bass:

Or maybe a Guy Pratt jazz bass:

  6. Thanks for all the feedback. All sorted now. Well, almost - issues with DPD not being able to leave a parcel (bass on Monday and gig bag today) with a neighbour (even though I've requested this on their app and by phone...but that's another story). I sent the photo of the damage and Andertons, to their credit, said it was damage and not intentional relicing. They also said the JMJ Roadworn bass is now a discontinued product so there is no option in ordering another one. (Have been out that long? Are the new range of Vintera Mustangs replacing this?) They have discounted the bass by £40 and sent the gig bag. Which I am happy with.
