  1. Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass Fretless, 3-Tone Sunburst

£170 including mainland UK delivery or £150 if collected.

Really good starter fretless. Ideal to see if fretless is right for you. This Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass Fretless, 3-Tone Sunburst was bought new from GAK in February 2017. It is in mint condition and has a really lovely finish. Never been gigged. Just played at home. Smoke free house. Currently strung with D’Addario black tapewound strings but I can put Fender nickel roundwounds on if you would like - just put on Flea bass (strings not gigged). For more details please see:

£170 including delivery (Parcelforce Express 48) within mainland UK. Happy with either Paypal or bank transfer. More than happy if you want to pop round to try. I’m just outside of Brighton.

They don’t come up very often but the highway one precisions are also very good value for money, made in corona, painted in Mexico, assembled in corona, high mass bridge, USA standard pickups with grease bucket tone circuit (although I have an spb3 and standard wiring as it helps with the wide range of music I play, in mine now)

Picked mine up second hand for £500 including hard case and shipping

comfortable, light, and decent sounding, my go to precision now, to the point I’m thinking of selling my others

+1 One of my students at school managed to grab one of the last new Highway One P Basses on sale a few years ago. A very nice bass especially with some TI strings on.

The best p-bass I've played is my Matt Freeman. I genuinely feel it's better crafted than the MIM and the USA pros that I've tried recently (IMO). They feel a bit chunky and possibly not worth £1200+.  Lots of people have suggested I sell what I have and buy one USA P bass but I really haven't found one that feels as comfortable.  This can't be right, can it?

Another shout out for Andertons, and particularly Dave.

All the the staff I spoke  to were spot on, however Dave was the guy who sorted me out, getting me some scales, basses from the warehouse, and all with a 'absolutely no problem' type vibe.

Super helpful and great bloke, cheers for the help and Stingray Dave, was a pleasure :)

    +1

Dave was fantastically tolerant with me today trying out MM basses. My go to guitar shop.

  4. Tried a Rickenbacker 4003S in Andertons today. Looked great. Very McCartney. Always wanted to try one. All good until I started to play. Very disappointed.

I used to have a 73 Jetglow 4001 (and a rather scary cat) so I like Ricks but this felt odd - especially after trying a couple of the new MM Stingrays.

  5. So, like a few Basschatters I popped along to Andertons to try the new MM Stingrays. Got a pass for the day. Yes!

As always, the staff at Andertons were friendly and helpful - without being pushy. I've shopped there since 1984 and it's still my go to shop even though I now live on the South Coast. Managed to get a free two hour parking space over the road. Result!

    Thoughts:

    • The necks are fantastic. Smooth and well fretted. Easy to play.
    • The hardware (black matte) is spot on.
    • It sounds just like a MM should.
    • The ones I tried (yellow and blue) were so light!!! The yellow was the lightest - about the same as my Matt Freeman p-bass. Wow. The blue one's neck was a bit chunkier - but only slightly. The yellow one just felt right.

Tried a few other basses too - in comparison. A Fender Pro P-bass - nice but not as nice as my p-bass. Really. The Ibanez SR2605-CBB was rather good as was a G&L Tribute Kiloton which was rather powerful - even though it was passive. Nothing however was as good as the yellow Sitngray. In reality it is a more mellow yellow in colour. Looks more acid lemon in piccies, though.

GAS-wise, although I would love to add one of these basses to my collection, there's hardly any GAS as there is no way that I can afford one of them. (Normally my GAS is around basses I can just about afford.) The Stingrays are so off the scale of affordability that I came away having enjoyed playing a few really good basses. Went and bought McCartney's new album in HMV (extended version) and listened to it a couple of times on the way home. I rather like it...glad I gave it a go.

All in all a good day. IMG_4686.thumb.jpg.5795423c83d1a7a5339f19e1461e5b0f.jpgIMG_4688.thumb.JPG.340229f08ed6958d32d0347b38ea5b50.JPG

  6. Fender Flea Signature Jazz Bass in Shell Pink

£700 including mainland UK delivery or £680 if collected.

Bought new from Andertons in November 2017. I love this bass. I really do. I picked it up whilst looking at a fretless Warwick I had my eye on. I don’t normally do jazzes but this one was different. Lighter than a lot of Jazzes, stack knobs and easy to play. I put it down and went home. I was still thinking about it a week later. I visited Andertons again on the way through Guildford and played it again. Still a great bass – so I bought it. Weighs in at 4.1 kg or just under 9Ib 3oz.

Gigged only twice – Christmas concert (Vulfpeck 'Christmas in LA'!) and Spring concert at school (80s Night). It is in the condition that I bought it in. Smoke free house. Comes with the deluxe Fender gigbag I bought it with.

£700 including delivery (Parcelforce Express 48) within mainland UK. £680 if collected. Happy with either Paypal or bank transfer. More than happy if you want to pop round to try. I’m just outside of Brighton.

All Mono cases are solid and provide great protection. However, the velcro on the cable tie/strap thing wore out in the first year. Currently I use the Sleeve, which is slimmer than the M80 but it still gives great protection. The pocket isn't as big but I manage to get two cables, a fold up stand, earplugs, clip-on tuner and an ipad in it.

+1 for the Mono Sleeve. I liked the Vertigo but the Sleeve is lighter and more streamlined. Toploading and just right.

  8. I had one of these as my first bass. Really good build. Regret selling - although it now belongs to the head of music at my school so I can still play it if I want to!
