1. PMT in Newcastle are solid. The staff in there are great, should really pop in again.

Another good experience if we're talking stores is Guitar Guitar in Glasgow, went in explained what I was after, wasn't pressured to buy anything and the staff in there were helpful and absolutely brilliant,
Ryan over there helped me out and handed me over to someone that knew more about the bass stock they had at the time.

Bought my Lakland partially on how good the guys were in there, it helps it plays as good as it looks.

great basses, buy second hand unless you like throwing money away...

For Ibanez stuff, this is a good rule of thumb, they're insanely good value used.

Good support band from Sweden called Manimal.

sh*te sound and sh*te beer, ended up at Castle Hill Casino in Dudley for a decent pint and free buffet so not to bad a night.

Árstíðir -- Icelandic folksters.

Myrath -- Tunisian prog metal. Seriously.

Nice call on Myrath, Arstioir are a good shout too.

For me, even in Metal circles these guys are rather (Continuing from Rich's Folk) obscure :

............They're essentially Orange amps aren't they? ............

Don't let anyone near Meltham hear you say that (!)

Matamp are pure rock 'n' roll (and their wattage is what they say it is).

:)

Haha, good point.

I just always assumed Matamp were like Marshall are to Blackstar (Ex-engineers moving companies and all that)

6. Looking at tube amps here, I'm not wanting something to replace my CTM100, far from it. I'm wanting something to basically compliment it.
with the CTM 100, I've seen a few options but I'm not sure on any of them as I want some opinions first before I dive in.
I will be running these potentially through an Ashdown Mag10 OR a Barefaced Super compact depending on stage space.

Things I like with the CTM:

Modern features,
being able to bias my amp
The tone
lightweight for a valve head
cuts through my band mix well

Things I don't like:

EQ doesn't do much to it, even with the boost buttons
would like something with less breakup with the clean setting
generally want a cleaner sound, though I love this one

Options that I have been looking at,

Orange AD200B, I've heard good things about these and I have been offered one, but I am concerned just about the weight and the general tone.
I once had a bass terror that I didn't like very much, not sure why. Was powerful, but lacked something. Is the AD200B similar?

Rift amplification "Deep Rift" been offered one of these, with a 410 cabinet. Seller say's it's based off a JCM800 bass amp crossed with a Hiwatt 200W amp.
No idea how it sounds, but that's the tone style it's going for. However, I think it's a bit much for something obscure (It's 1K with the 410) Itislocal,so I can go and try it.

Stoneham YI200: Local builder, I believe there's a big thread on Basschat about it, looks like it's something I'm interestedin, howeverthere's no clips of it anywhere.

Bass thread is here: http://basschat.co.u...ay/page__st__60

Thoughts, any possible contenders I'm missing?

Forgot to mention, my main band is a classic metal type outfit (Think Scorpions, Maiden, Helloween and Fastway and you're there) in case that changes anything in terms of tone.

Edit: Not wanting anything that needs 4ohms, want to keep it to a single cab.

7. Getting rid of some excess instruments this week, I guess another Jake might be in order in the near future.

There's one I want to base it off on the website, what's Adrian's stock necks like?

Might not have to go for a customish build as this one looks perfect.

8. Ashdown CTM100, it's the only amp I've ever really used that gives me the tone I want and doesn't have to struggle with the rest of my band.

It's a lovely beast and Merton's thread pushed me over the edge with my uncertainty and made it certain I wanted one. I'm glad I did.

9. As I've had a couple of basses made by Mensinger and Maruszczyk, I thought I'd drop in and give some thoughts, but a lot my points may have already come up, so apologies for that.

As a result of owning one or two Fender's that were just far too heavy for my back which permanent damage may have been done, I decided to start shopping around and seeing what was out there, so I went with these guys due to some word of mouth and the massive Maruszczyk thread on the forum, I found their prices and customizability perfect for what I was wanting at the time (An affordable P/J with a weight I could deal with) I decided to go with it based on WOT's thread about his sunburst Jake that he received a while ago. They're pretty good. However, I have some issues with using them and I wish that I'd found out before I used them.

1) There are little to no updates on the status of your bass, they'll give you a lovely sofa shot at the end, which makes up for it. It doesn't bother me that much, however. It might bother some people when going for a custom build

2) Communication is usually solid, aside from emails sometimes not getting replies, but waiting a few days before sending another sort it, but other people have reported getting solid communication, so it might just be me. Also, English isn't Adrian's strong point (They're based in Germany/Poland) so if you want great English communication, go to someone else. But he tells you exactly what they can and cannot do, even if it's sometimes a bit disjointed.

3) They're limited in terms of pickup choice, however, they will get in whatever you want if you request it, but it'll be more.

All in all, I can only recommend actually researching a ton of different builders. Some builders designs might be more to your liking than mine and everybody's budget is different. But these are all thoughts based on my experiences.

Ha ha... the colour still makes me sometimes go "argh!"... not helped by my gf pointing out at every possible occasion "look, that bin is the colour you wanted, right?" or "look at that car"... but the bass is fantastic, I love it! :)

Yeah, I sometimes think spending a few months away from here will help my finances enormously :P
Fantastic, it's a pretty unique colour.

Yeah I think it might help, Might go for a five string Jake in the future with a 35 scale...

Not sure if he does them though. I want an alternative to my Lakland Skyline.

However, a five string Speesy in a checkered finish is what I've ordered now.

Over the top? Yes.

Garish? Possibly.

But I asked him about it, he said they could do it so I thought why not. It's something different. Even if it's a backup for my 4 string.

It looks like almost a scratch/tickle type of attack! I did read that his rig is effing CRANKED and someone once made the mistake of soundchecking at Steve's regular amp settings, but used a normal attack and almost blew himself off the stage!
Hahaha!

He also uses a compressor too
