Guys :-)

Wojtek Pillichoski now joins Maruszczyk instruments as exclusive endorser.

(he's the big guy who breaks basses with his thumb LOL)

amazing ! next step is open for Maruszczyk Instruments ! proof hard work does pay off!
Yeah I saw that earlier, he's a superb bass player.

So they're opening the new location next, right?

For all of you 'I'll email after the New Year' guys & gals......bear in mind that NAMM is in January (19th-22nd) and so Adrian and the crew may be slow to respond through the month. I imagine it's a massive undertaking to get them and their stock from Germany/Poland to LA and back again.

If you're waiting, I'd probably wait until start of Feb :)

    Good point Si.

Namm delayed my bass slightly last year, wasn't that long. Just a couple of weeks.

You're almost making me look sane!
Haha, yes. I have a tendency to do that.

I've been getting rid of my excess instruments to get something else.

My bands looking to gig next year, so why not have a backup in case one goes wrong?

There is one on the site that I could just buy though but it's got another bands name on it and it just feels wrong,
I dunno. I'm weird with that.

Contemplating a five, but we'll see what he says.

  4. They're rather expensive now.

Some good deals to be had second hand, but with builders like the Japanese range and Maruszczyk (I'm this predictable sorry) out there, I don't really see the need to pay for a US Fender.

However they do have some corking basses out there if that's what your into.

For the longest time I've been fantasising about an Elwood Absolution in a sunburst finish over a burled map top with a set of Nordstrand big singles in!

Last couple of days though I've been entertaining the idea of having a Chris Novak darkstar-type pickup dropped into a jake, or maybe 2 into an elwood c.

    Lovely.

Gonna send another email to Adrian once we get into the New Year I think, see if I can do something different with the speesy.

I don't know, maybe make it a five string and give it a darker colour scheme, like a bloodred gloss finish or something, with an ebony board.

Have you also considered this option http://stonehamamps....ss-Head(3023626).htm ?

Martin Stoneham is a new name in the guitar and bass amp world but he is gaining a reputation for very well made good sounding lightweight valve amps. I've tested the prototype of this head and it's everything I'd want in a valve amp. The advantage with Martin is that as it's all handmade point to point wired, if you want any tweaks to the design, he can accommodate.
Martin has fixed tons of amps for me, I can agree with this.

The guitar shops that I know in Newcastle (Guitar Guitar, PMT, Windows) all have a pretty meagre selection of basses. Is there anywhere else in the North East that has more, or will I need to go further afield? I'm not looking for anything in particular, so the wider the selection the better.
I'd like to know this too, virtually no basses near me.

as I said before, I'm not a fan of V type or generally pointy instruments... but this one looks fantastic! I love the green/maple... it kind of tames the 'pointiness' a bit... like "yeah, I'm pointy and I can rip your heart out of your body if I wanted to, but if you don't betray me I'm all mellow and sweet, really"
I only went pointy to stop the drummer playing out of time!

    *plays out of time*

    Where's me eye gone? :D

Mine arrived today so I took the afternoon off to have a mess with it.

Must say I'm very impressed with the fit and finish. Reeks quality and looks even lovelier in the flesh. A bit disappointed in the set up - fret buzz city, all over the fingerboard and took a while to tame this - although I'm not that great at doing bass set-ups. I've got it nice and playable now and it sounds ace. Amazing for £800! The gig bag is quality too - and also a short scale! Will get pics up tomorrow.

    What did you get?

  10. Looking for a tube head to back up my Ashdown, and I've came across

    this: http://www.handbox.pl/WB-100-Glowa-Full-Lampa-p139.html

Brand called Handbox, I know WOT is a huge fan and these look interesting, has anyone played them? I've came across their video demo's and there's something just not there with it. However, like with Ashdown, video's can be deceiving.

Does anyone have experience with them? Not a brand I've heard of before.

    Works for me.
Thinking about trying the normal headstock next time for some variety though!

    Some updated thoughts:

Been going back and forth between this and my Jake.

They sound totally different, but they play virtually the same. The 32" scale of the Speesy doesn't feel like it's changed the deepness of the tone compared to the 34" and I'm not finding it as difficult to adjust as I thought I would. It's like a 4 to a 5 string for me. I can change on the fly, which is really nice.

So if the headstock is reversed from the standard, does that mean that the standard would have the tuners on the underside, if that makes any sense at all?

Because if the tuners were on the underside then that's normally what I think of as a reversed headstock.

Cracking looking bass by the way. My metal days are long behind me, but I've never lost my love of pointy guitars.
Indeed, yes.

My logic was it's reversed to that, so that's where the phrase reversed headstock came from.

    Looks more like banana peel

Cracking bit of kit. All the sitting about yesterday just waiting must have been murder.

Congrats on getting your dream bass.
It's honestly a blast to play, we're not an evil band. Honest.

We sing about dragons and stuff, so I thought it was perfect, haha!
