32" + 34" + "35 Double balls also available.
Do you have the 18.5 string Alain Caron set by any chance?
-
I find my bass is more percussive-sounding with no strings at all. Have you tried the new Tomastik Infeld Invisibles? I find they save me money too, I have never had to change them, they never seem to lose their tone or anything.
That's it, you make him feel better about it. <sarcasm>
I can't wait to hear about it later (that's a Van Halen number), I bet he plays a blinder and can't wait to do it again.

Christ, he's going to be feeling sick as a parrot right now I never get nervous anymore, not sure why, I have every reason to be. I just get a bit distracted and flighty before stage time, can't hold a decent conversation. That's because I'm anxious to get on though. There's bugger all you can do about nerves is there. All those breathing exercises, meditation and that, all rubbish. Quick shot of brandy is what I used to do. That didn't work either.
Wouldn't the inconsistent string tensions play havoc with the neck? (flats having a higher tension than rounds of the same gauge & all that).
NO! I don't agree with you.
-
Mine came this morning Great to see Martin in there (and AJ of course!). Problem is, I am totally GASing for a Dingwall now, that exact one in fact, well a four-string. I had a play on one last year and loved the fan frets, but that was before the Combustion came out so I forgot about them, no way I'm spending £2.5K on a bass. Yet another gear re-think has to happen, probably.
To be honest that does sound a little like a personal attack, but like Louis, I forgive you. It’s just the way that we were brought up. I actually agree with you about some of the ‘humour’ about sex sounding like that a 14 year old boy, but my point was that the reaction to PeteAcademy was heavy handed and that the thread was no where near offensive enough to warrant that. Sorry about, the delay in replying – no computer for a few days!
Dude, it's in no way a personal attack, sorry if it came across that way. Like I've said a few times, the thread in itself was not what pissed me off, it's the way a few BCers start dissing the Mods for their, in my opinion completely correct, decision to lock the thread. And quite often these attacks on the mods are quite personal. I also get really riled by the way that some folks seem to think when these threads are closed, it indicates BC and its members have no sense of humour, like to be humorous you have to snigger at pictures of girls in wet t-shirts. Unlike Beavis and Butthead, there is no irony in it, and if you look around, there is great humour, heated debate and wry wit in abundance. Take it easy. Nigel

Have a cracking time tonight! Don't forget to tune up before you go on. All the best!

I will say something, if you do it, however you do it, and whether you do or you don't pull it off, you will have mastered a part of you that you haven't had the chance to master before. Getting on a stage to do anything for the first time is very scary for most people, but the fear response is overcome by the adrenaline very quickly. The unconscious brain will steer the correct course and the music will flood into you, you will remember. I did a few live stand up routines a few years back. I never get nervous playing music onstage, it was good for me to remember the complete fear before going on, it was totally exhilarating.
-
Don't worry about it. I fluff notes all the time live, I always have. I have pissed myself onstage through fear, nerves are natural. You will only get over the nerves once you are about 30 seconds to a minute into the first song. You can't do much about them, try to enjoy the nerves., let them flow through you. You are still you at the end. Have a fantastic time! Nigel
So, after posting this a while back, I've finally taken the plunge and will be playing live for the first time ever. Tomorrow night we're having a party for Mrs HT's 40th birthday. She always said that the one thing she wanted was to see me play with a "real" band, rather than an MP3 player! It's in our local pub, there will be 50-60 friends & colleagues there, plus quite a few locals. The band (the guitarist is a mate) have agreed to let me stand in on bass for a few songs. We're doing Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Let's Stick Together, Smokin' In The Boys Room, and Sweet Home Alabama. I've played all of these for decades, but for the last four weeks they are ALL I've played (I can actually play Crazy Little Thing backwards). So, my question is simply this: How do you get over the nerves? I am absolutely SHTING myself, and if I'm honest, I really don't want to do it. I know I'm gonna miss a string, or fluff a change (I mean, FFS, you don't get much simpler than these songs!), or just generally have a train wreck. But, I also know that if I don't do it I probably never will, and I will continue to kick myself for the rest of my life. How to approach it? What to think? What to feel? What's gonna happen? What if I make a t!t of myself, or worse? I can't practise any more, although I'll probably have another dozen or so run-throughs tomorrow morning. Should I do it? Should I back out? I should probably add that I'm not drinking tonight. I want a totally clear head tomorrow.
Just been listening to Stanley Holloway.
I think saying they went mad is over the top really.... they applauded and there was a slight cheer.... yeah he had to repeat himself but I think that was more of a case that he was stumbling over his own words As for Basildon it's not too bad.... it's places like Pitsea that are a problem
Fair enough man. Cheers.
Listen to the kick, and tap along with it...
It is clearly well out. I'll have to listen to the album and see if it's on there. I find it hard to believe they let that slip through, no excuse for that.
Thats not quite true is it..... what he actually said was that Britain had been subjected to decades of intense immigration.... that's what the audience reacted too.... Don't be a dramatist!
Oh come on mate, they went mad! They didn't hear the rest of his sentence which was along the lines of ".. which is both a good and a bad thing.". He had to repeat that bit. I know you're from Essex, and I'm not having a crack at Essex, but they didn't do the stereotype much cop, did they? EDIT: My favourite oysters are from Colchester, as are Beth Chatto's gorgeous gardens, and Germaine Greer lives in Saffron Waldon. Essex is cool
I bloody Love Oli Rockberger (great name too). I completely love a track on his myspace called "I miss my home". Anyway just got the latest issue, nice feature with Martin Peterson of Sei which I cant wait to read, bit of John paul Jones, Gene Simmons, Duff and for those that complain about there being too many expensive basses, I dont think any of the reviewed basses are over £1500 RRP. Nice Dingwal in there. Cant wait to get home, stick a brew on, bust out the hobnobs and have a read. I really do love this magazine, despite its faults.
Haven't received mine yet
Whatever, still looks hot.
Thank you very much, Alex Just for you and Marvin, my favourite action shot of the Milk Bass.
Nor mine. In fact most of the examples of "PC gone mad" I've ever heard of I can't attribute to personal experience, or the experiences of anyone I've met. Most of the time when you read about crazy stuff like that it's attributed to "a source" in the media. I wouldn't be suprised if most of it is made up to enrage the sort of people who use the term "PC brigade" and sell papers.
I think you are exactly right. Same thing with "Health & Safety Gawn Maaaahd". Wait till the f***ers get ill and see the claims roll in. "Do Gooders" is another one that pisses me off. See QT last night, the biggest cheer from the Basildon audience came when a panellist said "immigration", they didn't even hear the rest of his sentence.
Just imported Easy Star All-Stars and Pink Floyd into I-tunes and am listening to Dark Side of the Moon v Dub Side of the Moon back to back - 'fraid to say it's 1-0 up to the All-Stars
Is it really that good? I've never heard it. I love Dark Side and I adore dub, but is it for real? Is it truly mustard?
She's a tough nut to crack when it comes to money is my wife. Even the fish didn't sway it.
I'll have a chat with her if you like, I can be very diplomatic.
Stop showing off the white Warwick, it's tantamount to torture you evil swine I'm going to have to lie down in a dark room for a while. The wife said the black Warwick looked nice as well, I said 'it's for sale', when I mentioned how much she lost interest
Does she know it's now at the bargain price of £675, and I'll chuck in the antique fish for free? What's her number?
-
Have you still got that white Warwick?
BTW, it's not "white", it's "with milk".
I want your white Jazz.
I'm afraid I may have found my perfect bass in that Jazz. It's lovely to play live, and I recorded an ep with Kit Richardson on Sunday, it rocked the house! Anyway, you'd only cover it in those funny square things.
I disagree he was bang on with that quote, I think he is been divisive. The issue of blame however lies with the decision makers who took something that was good and needed, and turned it in something to exploit for political gain.
Nonsense!
I have been a massive Rush fan since pre pubic times. When Lifesons solo effort Victor came out in the 90's I was skint and then forgot about it. I remembered it a few weeks and an ebay click later. What a find ... but not as good as Geddy Lee's solo, but still bloody good.
You know what, I was going to mention Victor the other day on here. I really like it. Never heard Ged's, must check that out. Cheers.
It's too late to what? Her stage school training has come in very handy to help her sound like Adele, Lilly and Amy, she's a genius.
OK, I've listened to all and decided it's generic pop pap, some nice songs on there but trying to be American and failing, not quirky enough to be classic British. Rubbish. I put the blame squarely on the record company's and the producer's shoulders. Florence however is great, she sounds a bit like Chrissie Hynde actually.
