Sometimes in an idle moment I think to myself " What would the World be like if all the effort people put into fighting wars and hurting each other was put into helping each other and making the World a better place ? " . Then I go on Basschat and see people falling out over whether a maple fingerboard sounds brighter than a rosewood one ( it does ) and I know why my dream of World peace will never come true .
Some of those wars are over rights to wood sources, maybe we should all go phenolic.
This thread seems to be developing into a bit of an argument, just like the Beatles one. Why cant people just let it go ? The guy had the guts to apologize. The apology was accepted. That should be the end of it. It just seems like arguing for the sake of it.
That's right, but someone (Mr X) raised a different issue and we're arguing abut that now because yet someone else (Mr Y) disagreed with with Mr X and got personal. That ok?
It seems that you and I have different views about how to treat people who say "sorry". But I said to him what I wanted to say to him, and am not participating in a downslide with you now. We're very close, as I hope you'll agree. But FWIW, I did not try to wind him up, I never try to wind people up, I never bait willingly. I really hate that stuff with a vengeance. I'm sorry you got a completely wrong idea about what I represent, and will take this with me. I will be trying to be even more clear than I already think I am. Just like in the post that you responded, I like to try to be simple, transparent, honest and direct, without any hidden agendas. FWIW2: I was concerned about his health and state of mind. As mentioned, I felt I'd seen a change in his postings. But one doesn't easily say that on a forum, and to a person one doesn't know anything about. It can be very confrontational, be interpreted as a weapon, and can easily be taken the wrong way (in many ways at the same time), and thus result in a type of war that I certainly didn't want to cause. But I thought that my words might hold up a little mirror in front of his face, and he could after that respond in any way that he'd choose. I hoped he'd realise that I had a point a would decide to be more careful, or of course that he would disagree an tell me. For reasons unknown to me, he has not responded AFAIK. If you can't see how my first post can be seen any differently, I don't think I can assist. I think you're wrong about that, and you're surely wrong about my intentions, but I have no idea about what I could do to change that. It be so. Why I assumed you meant me? Well, statistics kinda clearly showed that people by large exclusively patted him on the back, whilst my post was not like that. I remembered my post. As to the group of idiots, yes, I did ask myself whether I had been an idiot and belonged to that group. No, I did not believe that he meant me as a member of that group. Your phrase "just wondering" is strictly speaking not true. You have specific reasons for asking exactly that. I'm not going into that area though. Peace? Hm. Now I am wondering. But yes, I do wish peace upon you. best, bert
I agree, can't see what the problem is. Your post was perfectly reasonable and a point of view I agree with.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned a PRIDE of bassists yet! Probably because it's about as funny as a burning orphanage.
I don't get it, a guy has the guts to say sorry and still a numpty still tries to have a pop at him.
And now you're doing exactly what the OP is apologising for. Bass Tractor is very far from being a numpty, and he made some considered and, IMO, valid points.
+1 Homer, in the old days you could be pretty honest on here, there were a lot of gobsh*tes (me foremost amongst them no doubt), but you felt you could say what you want and rely on folks taking it on the chin in the spirit in which it was intended, even if it got a little heated on occasion. There's a few guys on here now who appear to generic forumites, who appear to sit at their screen all day waiting for a post on one forum or another to which they can take offence/personally/issue with, irrespective of subject matter. Having had a noodle around this evening I was amused to see someone getting all hormonal at WoT in a thread about the Royal Mail. Can it go any lower? At least the Beatles are worth getting excited (or not excited) about. To his credit, Bilbo took it on the chin yesterday, but then he's old school as well.
I know what you mean, Chris, but honestly, it's all right, this place. And there really aren't many on here who enjoy being offended and taking their pants off for a fight. But yeh, it was a little more toothy back then, it was fun, but it still is.
I thought it was an interesting topic -- how Jaco would splice his solos on recordings and how live, he could be less than stellar. It acknowledged his genius but brought up the point that everyone, even the greats, have their shortcomings. Unfortunately, a few members jumped on it as trolling, baiting, stirring up crap and what not and I just didn't want or need the animosity.
I'm sure we would all find that extremely what we already knew. Y'know, from the other Jaco is sh*t/wickid/normal/paranormal threads from the recent past Sorry my man, I could not resist.
Wow! I completely understand the sentiment but hey, there is so much you can do now to populate your own space. I'm 47 (my 14 year old youngest daughter knows more about this stuff than I do!) but seriously, if you want it bad enough you find stuff out. Websites are old hat unless you know what you're doing, you need a 'Platform'. FB isn't about showing off if you have the right 'plugins', the right 'copy' and the right 'videos'. I just helped a mate get a spot on the: http://www.swedenroc....cfm?lg=2&pg=82 and that's through Facebook. No money changed hands, it wasn't devious record company politics. It was simply someone knowing what they were doing and leveraging it. Personally I think it's a massive shame that so much talent and skill goes unnoticed just because of a fear of technology! Get involved, learn: it's all free on Google and get your stuff out there. By the way 'MySpace' is dead......
Top post man!
I'm sorry. I did not realize you were the arbiter of all thread topics. I'll check with you first next time.
See, you respond like a Daily Mail comment, dogwhistle sarcasm. I have no problem with you man, none. You seem like you're a good bloke and will be a respected member who contributes a lot. And believe me, I miss some of the good ol ding dongs we had on here a few years ago, I'm no stranger to heated arguments on here. But although they were heated, in a way that rarely happens now, most of them were educational and entertaining, I know I certainly learned a lot. Yours would be a rehash, and I doubt it would really say anything new, I think that's why you decided to remove it, it can't have been because a couple of folks got a bit upset. Either that or you wigged out or something. Don't worry about it Respect. Peace.
' Nonsense. Just because you don't agree with something doesn't make it inflammatory. It was meant to be a discussion/debate but I realize that puts some peoples shorts in a twist so I let it drop.
That doesn't really make much sense cocker. It's like some of the sh*t I see in the Daily Mail comments about the 'PC brigade eroding free speech'. Do you think you're the first to post a thread like that? We know what happens, people who should know better get into heated asinine exchanges just like the Beatles thread. NOTHING is learned by them. There are no penetrating questions, and no astute answers. It's 16 pages of f***ing drivel. If you want to ask a question like 'Was Jaco's music meaningless because he had a mental illness so it wasn't his mind anyway?' or some sh*t like that, please, by all means, do so. It's just as inflammatory but at least it will be interesting and educational.
Just thought I'd bring up a point about the subjectivity of music because, well, it's a discussion board. But some people are opposed to that so not to offend them, I removed the thread.
Mate, pick your toys up and don't be a bell end. Your OP was deliberately inflammatory, and neither in an original or interesting way. There have been loads of threads like this and they don't ask or answer any interesting questions.
Buy cheap lol, rockbass corvette, am just about to stick DiMarzio J bass pickups in mine. Cheap as chips so quality to £ ratio high.
He could get a S/H German $$ for less than £500
I believe the OP deleted it.Can't think why..
Threads can't be deleted by members. Only mods can do that. Looked like a trolling thread anyway. He just changed the title and replaced the troll OP with another troll OP http://basschat.co.uk/topic/199450-nevermind-lol/
The Scots word for flea is "flech" (with a gutteral ch) it has a better ring to it.
No it doesn't, it's rubbish. Irish is a million times better 'dreancaid'.
I don't get it. Was it the soapy t*t w**k comment? Has Bilbo never had one? ;-)
He lives in Felixstowe mate. No soap. Plenty of tits, mind
I haven't noticed anything really other than the obvious one or two donuts, but then it's quite likely that I'm one of the said offenders! I do try to stay out of trouble though. Despite the few negative posts here and there, the forum is still a really cool place to be as far as I'm concerned. There's bound to be the odd disagreement, but really, it would be ruddy boring if we all sat around typing "hear, hear" on every thread.
One of the things I adore about Basschat is the sometimes heated discussions about divisive subject matter, that are almost always civil despite heated exchanges. Only once in a while do they become exothermic, sometimes with new members, sometimes with old members having a bad day. Very occasionally it becomes like watching a fracas outside the pub, morbidly fascinating while being rather distasteful. But I doubt the participants feel bad for more than a day or two, and when the bruises have gone, all is usually well. I believe we learn a lot from people arguing strongly held beliefs, it's only when they descend to petty name calling and general lack of respect that they can make Basschat look partly puerile, and get uncomfortable to be a part of. But the umpires always step in. I have to say though that I hate to see threads locked unless there is a good legal reason, or if it looks like someone may get bloodied. Other than that, I rarely see 'bad' threads, I think those who say they do are a being a bit oversensitive.
We seem to have had a surge in people giving our page a "like" because of this thread! Thanks to all that have and to the OP for starting the thread!
