  13. I have a boss VE2 for that purpose. its good for 2nd harmonics and unison. The occasional Barry White effect is good but a little artificial and noisy on full density. I like it but eats batteries get a charger.
  14. For me the best I have tried is the Rob Allen MB2 5 string. I run it through some AER Amp Threes and you could kill a pig with the low frequency off that. But compress it and it can thump and really interestingly it pulls a really good Jameson type vibe as in a 65 p going through a B15. I find mine really, really useful and its sits well in the mix. Its not that great at the true fretless sounds until you get higher on the register. It compares very fabourably with my NXT EUB 5 but the EUB has the edge with a bit of growl for jazz. Its worth the investment if you are after that sound. I think a Kala is nice, sound nice but using it all night....... nah not for me.
  15. I had one of these in the day, exactly the same. fabulous instrument.
  16. That is true the sound was really low from stage. I got the perspective because I was right next to him so I could hear the sound and it was good. couldn't knock it at all.
  17. Just saw Paul Turner last night a Ronnie Scots with Brother Strut. He played trough a TC K450,a tired old TC 2x12 and an old Ashdown 4x10. He sounded superb... as he would. But .....Gas reality check.....the tone is I the fingers not the gear.
  18. Gods Holy Trousers that is pretty.............
  19. Get an AER bass amp and tell them its a transistor radio... :-)
  20. Here is my take. In my time I have owned lots of different basses. The best one is the one you like playing and feel comfortable with. It doesn't matter at this stage if anyone on here thinks its good or its crap. Chances are that you aren't at a stage in your playing where the particular pro's or cons of a given instrument are going to be on your radar. You are on a journey and you just need the instrument for where you are now. Buying 2nd hand on here in a given range will get you an instrument which has depreciated and therefore if you don't get on with it you can just sell it and get another with negligible losses. You are not going to know what you like until you have lived with it for a while and many bass players compromise on one aspect or another of an instrument. It goes play ability over tone or the other way round usually. So look in here, see which of the instruments change hands regularly and for sensible money. These are your best bets. If you have hands like shovels neck width won't bother you but string spacing will if you have small hands then you will commonly favour a slimmer neck. Personally I don't think you will go far wrong with a Musicman Sub, a Mexican Fender J or if you can find one a Bass Collection. Yamaha and Peavy tend to be marmite, warwick can be overpriced for newish players. Get a Fender or an MM sub. If it doesn't work it will sell and quickly and you can try something else. Please don;t forget - what ever you buy get it set up - a set up makes all the difference. Wishing you all the best.
