Looks a good buy for the money. especially for a pick up, nice one.let us know how it sounds.
That's what I was thinking, saved myself a few bob with the pick up option. I'll post some better pics as well when I get it

Just bought this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140332609892 from E-Bay. I was tempted by the colour, maple neck and made in Japan 80's. Unfortunately the description and photo aren't great but thought I could always sell it on if I wanted to. Hoping to pick it up tomorrow on the way to a gig, I might even give it a run out at the gig if it's playable enough.

I was going to say you're Joking, but you're not....................you're Joe Kang
I got 92 out of 100, with full marks for the Performance, Improv and Bass patterns and then lost a few marks for scales, aural and musicianship (got a question on transposition I totally blanked out on) I was expecting just to scrape a pass so I thought my teacher was messing with me when he called me up today! We all know what this means guys, no matter how much I suck in the future I will always have this piece of paper telling me at some point in my life I could sort of play bass

The bass or the elephant?
I don't think I could fit the elephant in a gig bag so it would have to be the bass.
Sod the bass, anyone else spot the awesome wooden elephant?
Haha I was waiting for a comment on the Elephant Thanks to all for the info, value wise I don't think it'll be enough to persuade him to part with it, I might try and "borrow" it for a while though.

I've got 3 so make that 1828 -
We were round at our drummers house practising last night and he pulls out his Bass guitar which I've never seen before although I knew he owned one. Anyway it turns out it's this Aria Pro II Cardinal with mojo so I had a go on it and it plays absolutely superb. Does anyone have any info on it ie what's it worth, year of manufacture etc. I was thinking of persuading him to part with it......... to me of course. I had a look at various websites but can't seem to find this exact model and I'm not sure if the year is 1978 or 1988 according to the neckplate. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Depends on the pub, really. We had a HUGE unexpected success in a tough tough tough East End pub full of Grant Mitchell wannabees ... we played I Won't Back Down by Tom Petty. They loved it. You don't mention your own voice - do you sing? If so, can you harmonise?
I can sing - ish but not great at harmonising and especially while playing at the same time. I'll be mainly backing vocals on chorus's etc. I can see how Won't Back Down would go down well, another good song.
I think this song has already been mentioned somewere on Basschat but again Place your hands by Reef gets people going. i suppose it could be done acoustically.
I agree, cool song, that's one we've discussed before. We are normally a 4 piece band doing originals with a few covers thrown in but the other two guys can't always do gigs due to family commitments so myself and the lead singer/acoustic guitarist are looking at doing a pub act at weekends. The problem we have is deciding what covers to do so basically I'm looking for ideas of covers to do that generally go down well in pubs, bearing in mind that we'll be doing them acoustically. He's got a Calling/Creed/Stained sort of voice. Obviously we have a few of those songs in our artillary already and are now looking for a few more ideas.
£150 bags you one here! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=52730 They are 32" short scale... I'd imagine it'd play similar to a bass version of a Les Paul...I too find accoustics a little odd on the hands. I recond, being a 'Nez as well, that this will be as easy to play as the Jazz.
Thanks for the heads up. It's a bit far for me unfortunately.

I'm thinking of buying one of these http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_agb200tbr.htm , mainly for acoustic nights that allow some amplification. I don't want to take my Jazz Bass there as I feel it would look pretty dumb in amongst all the acoustics. My personal experience with acoustic basses hasn't been very good so far so I thought I'd try this route. Does anyone have one or has played one that could give me an idea of the playability etc. Also if you have one or similar and want to sell it I might be interested.
I've just managed to snare my dream bass on E-bay, from the USA. I've worked out the cost of purchase, shipping, etc, with the conversion before buying. However - when it comes to the customs charges and VAT - do I have to pay on a used instrument? I've already budgeted for a big lump on top! Are there any tips here? What can I get the seller to mark it as to help reduce the cost? Any ideas here welcome! [/quo By the way, what Bass did you get ?
-
I've drunk a lot of the stuff :-)

Yes mate, I bought the Bass in my pic from the US for $1000 mint second hand, pound was 2 to1 at the time so a bargain, same guitar here was £1400. Had to pay between £50-£70 custom duty, can't quite remember as I've had a few guitars from the US. I've bought guitar parts and never had to pay any duty on them but deffo paid for guitars every time.
Yes, it's an old Matrix Series I. Looks like the volume & pickup pan controls have been replaced. That disc around the volume control looks like it's been added as a repair, rather like a lot of the brass plates you get around the jack input sockets on JayDees. Bridge is non-standard as well, I think. Thanks to the OP for costing me £8 btw... Never heard Lily before & I've just bought the album off iTunes since this little bit of research!
Haha, sorry about that but I'm sure it's worth every penny. I'll be claiming my 80p from Lily (if I ever get to meet her) Once again though, thanks to everyone for the info provided. Once again it's proved what a great site this is.

Any idea what Bass he's using, I'm assuming it's a Status and was wondering what the dial on it is.
-
Yes it his him, I managed to find him after getting the name from Allighat0r, great player and great sound coming from him and the band. Seems like he's got his fingers in a lot of pies, very talented bloke. Thanks for all the reply's
A quick google seems to show that it was Morgan Nicholls (small talkbass thread) Is this him? and is this the bass?
Very possibly although he does look a lot younger in this pic. His speaker config looks the same although I think he had SWR 4x10's instead of the TE's. I'm not sure if it's the same bass or not, I think the one he had looked newer. I tried googling and couldn't find anything but now I've got his name I'll do a bit more research.
