2.
I've heard of B&tZB but never caught you. I was also talking to Mark tuther day and he was depping for you in tRHCP I believe. So that's another band I need to keep my eyes open for ;)

If you're playing over my way give me a shout, my next gig in SS isn't until the end of May at The County. Never done it before is it any good?
Oy Hunt !!

    It's Littler !!!

Yeah I did my best filling in for the "legendary" KevBucket - Well worth catching the propper line up - www.TheRHCP.com

The County is a canny gig..... nasty lift up an outside iron staircase like !! you'll be pleased you have lightweight stuff. last time I played there I had an Ampeg 8x10 and we used a pair of Mackie 18 Bins

Oooooh my Back !! Strangely my phone rang a lot at the end of the night..... Urgent Calls and that :)

  3.
your not kidding i paid 600 for mine without the mods and still think i got a good deal !

is everyone skint or are laklands not the flavour of the month at the moment ?
Let's look at this......

Laklands are without doubt Hot Basses

Precisions are Flavour of the Month

Villex Mods are considered top notch, tastefull mods for your P

    Black Maple is Soooooo Cool

£600 is about the right price 2nd hand for this bass

This Particular Instrument is (definately) one of the better examples of the Lakland Skyline series

What the hell's it doing up for sale still ?

I think we're all skint / unsure of the economy is the only conclusion really !

Great Bass - well worth getting into debt for :)

  4.
I've just bought a late '82 Fullerton '57 reissue and it's pretty much the best Precision I've played. It is certainly significantly lighter and far better constructed than any other Fender I have owned (and that iuncludes current Custom Shop), but most importantly, it plays and sounds incredible; the sustain and resonance are pretty incredible for a Precision and the neck, despite being 1.75 width, is extremely fast. As has been hinted at above, I'd be surprised if a contemporary MIM could get anywhere near it. However, I'm not saying they don't, so I guess it's the old truism, try before you buy.

Irrespective of the "80's aren't vintage" argument, Fullerton reissues are highly sought after and are appreciating rapidly (and will soon be vintage by whatever definition). In fact I saw one for sale a few weeks back in a US dealership for over $5000. Problem, investment basses don't make good players - it's hard to enjoy a gig if you're worried about dinging your paintwork.

Having said all that, if you wanted my advice Mr Fudge, I'd say get a Fullerton :)
    Chris
I had a cracking 62 P Fullerton from 82 - hell of a bass, feather light and great to play. I also had a 1958 Limited Edition Custom Shop P I'd say the build, and overall "quality" of the instrument was similar. I agree with Chris, hunt out a fullerton !

  5.
I'm not certain that this is in the right section but hey.

I've got a Badass II on my Flea and it's been filed and does a perfectly good job. I fitted a Gotoh 201 onto my Warmoth and whereas they don't seem to have grabbed the imagination off the bass public so much it seems to be as good as the Badass if not better.

I'm thinking of getting another Gotoh for my Jazz 'u'like unless anyone can persuade me a Badass (or any other bridge) is significantly better.

    Peter
Hi Peter, I took a Gotoh bridge off the flea to have the BadAss installed, the difference was not a subtle one

    BadAss every time for me

  6.
I do not need this red 4 string CORT Curbow. The carved-top body is made of Luthite and features an extended upper horn for strapped balance and a deep lower cutaway for unrestricted access to all frets. The hard maple neck extends into the body all the way to the pickup for maximum vibration transfer. Electronics include a single, slim Bartolini passive humbucker wired to an active 9-volt circuit with 3-band EQ and a 'slap" contour switch with adjustable bass and midrange boost (accessed from the rear). Controls also include volume, treble cut, mid boost/cut and bass boost/cut knobs on the front. The fingerboard is made of Ebonol and polished to a mirror finish. It all adds up to a cutting-edge, premium-quality bass for a very affordable price of £180. (I'm near Newcastle upon Tyne)

    I'll post some pics shortly.
Another Geordie for the (planned) summer bass bash !!!

Cracking Budget Bass too - Yep let's have some pics !

  7.
Worth trying is the Eden 210XST. I find there's more bottom end at lower volumes than two single 12s, although having them is a great option too. The Eden is relatively light for such a top end bass cab and isn't much wider than the DB750 in a rackcase.

Happy hunting. I'm quite excited for you :-)
I've used Eden Cabs previously and really enjoyed them (XLT's) I found the 410 XLT very similar to the Aguilar GS410 I've fancied the XST for a while, I might hunt it down.....

    I'm excited too ! !

  8.
hi guys first thread does anyone know when its offically out in uk ?

Small Compact Head Needed ? Buy an F1

  9.
I've posted this before. If you're interested in understanding why things cost what they do you should learn some basic economics...

    wikipedia supply and demand

What is important with second instruments is how rare they are, which makes the supply curve steeper (inelastic) and therefore the price becomes more sensitive to changes in demand. And how desirable the instrument is - which pushes the demand curve further from the origin on the graph, because more people demand the instrument at every theoretical price. The transaction price occurs where the demand curve crosses the supply curve. The price someone is willing to supply something for, is equal to the price someone is willing to pay.
I'm not sure elementary A level Economics applies to Bass Guitars, firstly we're all nuts here ! and secondly we buy on emotion and try to justify with logic - not the other way around !

  10. Totally depends upon the Instrument i'd say

I bought my Stingray 2 Band Natural (Real Stonker) for £999 Brand New from Guitar Guitar

I'd suggest in the current depressed Stingray Market £650 would be about right 65% residual !

However I bought an Alembic Series II a while back for £3k which would have been the thick end of £10k New even with the current £ / $ ratio 30% residual ?

I'd suggest a 60% Residual would be about fair on most instruments (just my opinion ofcourse)

  11.
Pics PLEASE!!! :)
Has this not gone yet ?

around these parts Jim is known as "The Master"

I had one of Jim's Fretless MM necsk (sold it to Beedster) it was terrific !

I'd buy it myself, but i'm "stingrayed up" just now

  12.
Not being funny - but do you tell the rest of the band what instruments they should play?
Firstly, I agree, but it seems to be a guitarists disease where they have to have (ill founded) opinions on the bassists sound.

Secondly, this is a great bass at a great price, don't let the fact that it's changed hands a couple of times recently put any one off buying it !

It's agreat example of a Lakland BG and a great Precision Bass

  13. Looks like a smashing Day...... I hope Nicko wasn't too full on with his thunder thumbs :)

    oooh me horns !!!

I rekon a North East Bass Bass is a must in the summer, even if I have to organise it !!!

Choice of amps may well be a little limited up here mind, DB750's all round !!

  14.
It is quite a "sexy beast" - the few times I've played it live I've always had really positive comments from the odd muso in the crowd.

One thing to add about it is that the quality of tone really brings the best out of the more modern "clean" style of amplification. I used it regularly with an SWR top of the range rig and also recently with my Euphonic set up. Have played it through an EBS combo as well and it really sings through this kind of quality amp :)
Good job I spent the currency from my Flea Bass or i'd be sending you a PM on this baby !!

    Nice Nice Nice !!!

  15.
It depends whether you want it to still sound like a Stingray. I bought an SR5 in 2003 that had an OBP3 and a Bartolini in it. I didn't like the Bart so I changed it for an SD and then a Nordstrand. It had a really nice clean sound but it wasn't an SR5 anymore. It's took me almost 5 years to track down and fit an genuine SR5 pick-up and pre-amp and then it sounded like an SR5 but I didn't like it. It was just a bit coarse, if you know what I mean, so I put the Nordstrand back in. All is now right. Before swapping out the pre-amp consider changing the pick-up.
That's an interesting and thought provoking perspective.....

I love the "Classic Stingray Tone" but i'm not mated to it...... If it's an improvement (to me) i'd be happy even if it sounded less like a stingray !

I was considering a Nordy pup actually, They are supposed to be close to the Pre EB Pups, I just get the idea that the Standard Circuit lacks some headroom if that's the right term ?

On another topic, i'll be contacting you for some speakon cables shortly once I get my cabs sorted !

    Thanks

    Mark

  16.
From memory, the MM circuit "inspired" the Aguilar (as well as the Sadowsky..designed by Alex Aguilar?), but you might need to find room for two 9V batteries? I've got the older boxed version, and its great. But I would talk to John East first, about his "early MM" circuit before reaching for the soldering iron...

    BB
Yes ofcourse...... I forgot about John's MM circuit - Thanks
