1. I once replaced an Alembic Mark King coco with Green Led's for a Series II Alembic coco with Red Led's !!

I claimed the pickup selector was an LED controller (like the GB's Darling) which changed the colours of the Led's

She asked me to turn them green again...... game over !!

I cooked the tea and did the dishes that night......!!

  2. Everyone likes a bargain.... me included but if you're not shopping on a budget then there are very few places you can go and try out a wide range of "vintage & rare" guitars / basses under 1 roof

Places like V&R and the Gallery have tens of thousands of pounds tied up in stock (I know many will be on commission sale) premisis, staff and marketing to pay for. Unfortunately they can't operate and give the service they do and offer the choice they do without charging a premium for it.

I guess we can either wait forever for a 1960 stack knob Jazz to appear in cash generators for £80 or look for an ellusive bargain on ebay..... if you want to buy something special today and have a choice, then we have to be realistic and expect to pay for it.......

That said..... I don't expect to be shopping at V&R any time soon !

Great Bass...... I'd love to own it but i'm strapped just now !!!

  7. Amps ?

Can't Live with them / Can't gig without them !!!! (who wants IEM's)

    Agular DB750 & DB410 (current Rig)

Best Looking Amp - Ampeg SVT set up (Rock & Roll)

Loudest Amp - Aguilar DB680 DB728 (400w all valve - would knock a house down)

Best Live Sound - GK Rig - Sound guy loved it, cut through anything

Best Studio Sound - Phil Jones - Pure sweet HiFi sound

Most Commented Upon (positive) Live Sound from Punters - TD650 - Clean Bass delivered with impact

Most Frustrating Set Up to get a sound out of - Mark Bass - Never got it working well but easy to move !!

OK so what's the best out of them all ?

My Current set up !!! DB750 & DB410 !!! Why, cos it's such a great plug in and play tone, no fuss no messing on, it just works !! I don't have to worry about my amp any more...... !!

  8.
Personally, I can't equate how an amp/cab sounds in a shop to how it sounds at a gig. They're totally different environments.
Never, Ever a truer sentiment expressed within this forum...... god knows how much cash the lack of this understanding has cost me over the years...... I shudder to think !!

  9.
I tried the Suitcase and I didn't think it was very good..... then I added the 4x5 extension speaker and wow, what a difference. As an 8x5 set up it sounded great with a very good bass response.
I owned the Suitcase with extension cab for a while...... In the house sounded great, Bass extension was truely unbelievable..... took it to a rehearsal and that was it..... totally vanished behind the drummer i'm afraid

HiFi ? Yes, would make a great studio set up !

Genuinely Gigable ? - No I don't think so (IMHO)

The bigger stuff may be a different bag

    Mark

  10. It's a real shame this Bass has changed hands a few times recently...... I feel kinda guilty as I sort of started it being passed around.

I took it in PX for my Flea Bass..... and was really happy to do so !

I moved it on to part fund a DB750..... would have been really happy to keep it.

While the Villex mods are taking a headline, don't forget the bass has a fantastic P profile Neck (Beedster would love it)

If I had a spare £500 i'd buy it back...... guys bag a bargain !!
