I just don't get Fender...why can't they produce something like this from stock? With a couple of very simple mods (BadAssII, black pickguard and chrome plate) you have produced a quite beautiful looking bit of kit. A few weeks back I declared that at four basses, that was it. Enough. No more basses. After seeing those pics, I've added a subtle [i]in 2009[/i] to that. Cracking. P

    If you're Reading/Berkshire based and have a love of The Wildhearts, 3 Colours Red, Foo Fighters, I just spotted this band ([url="http://www.myspace.com/thenoonesrock"]The No-Ones[/url]) are looking for bass with vocals. The two songs on MySpace are pretty good.     I posted here a couple of weeks back to see whether anyone had a black guard for a Geddy Lee jazz. A couple of offers etc. Went with an aftermarket job from an eBay seller in Belgium/Holland - [url="http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/dn-store__W0QQ_armrsZ1"]DN-Store[/url] - single ply in black - under £10.00. Arrived in the mail this morning posted two days ago) and installed (or should that be onstalled?) a few minutes ago. Photo below. All the holes lined up except for the last one above the neck which was about 1mm out. Looks nice. P

It's flares and pointy headstocks. Trends change. I've got an old Precision (sill available...) but I'd argue that my newer gear sounds much nicer. P

    Can I just post here that my intention was just to say he's alive and well (and according to The Times rich list good for £70m) and that the photos were as much a surprise to me on seeing them as they were to you lot. This thread wasn't really for anyone to declare where he drinks etc. I respect the guy on so many levels (well aside from bubble-perms and Hot Space) - he is/was a great player and he retired with a degree of grace and decorum only to let May/Taylor sally the Queen name in his absence. Maybe the ops can delete the postings (or blank out) his drinking haunts. Best P

At the time I wrote that, I thought they were a little gimmicky, but I've really grown to like them. They're very easy on the right hand when finger-pluckin' and they ring for ages. I haven't actually jammed with them yet...next week...we'll see how they figure in a band situation and whether they cut the mustard for me in that enviroment. AFAIK, they don't do them in five string sets (yet) or different gauges. P

    Does anyone on here tune down whilst using a heavier gauge string set? Never done this but I'm interested in a bit of experimentation...maybe going down to C#/F#/Bb/E...bit of an extended low range. If you do, what gauges/tunings are you using? Cheers P

UK distribution is Strings & Things. £639-£749. Sometimes you just have to wonder where these companies have their heads at. I know, exchange rates/ripoff Britain etc. but do they realise there's a recession on? For £750 would likely buy you a decentish second-hand [i]original [/i]Musicman, or certainly a Warwick or Lakland. Wouldn't it be cheaper to ship these products into the UK direct from Indonesia for set up rather than ramping up two lots of import duties? P

    OK, time to put this up again. I haven't even picked this bass up in five months except to dust it...seems such a waste that it's not getting used. It's a 1979 Fender Precision, US made. Black with rosewood board on a maple neck. Stock pickup failed years ago and it now has a new Wizard unit. The chromed pickup cover is a new addition and is a genuine Fender part. It's fitted with Dunlop Straploks. I do not have the Fender strap-lugs. Comes in the original Fender moulded case. I have the thumb-rest but it's not fitted. Body has a little bit of marking/bucklerash, but could certainly be considered as clean considering it's thirty years old. Neck/headstock likewise. Neck is straight and has never needed adjustment during the twenty odd years I've owned the bass. Bridge and machines are sound...it never goes out of tune. Pictures are below. I'll answer any questions here or by PM. OK to the price. Competitively, I have to be looking at £950 for an outright sale, but would also consider exchanging against: - an oldish Fender Jazz (preferably black/blocks), or, - a Gibson Thunderbird (white), or, - a Rickenbacker 4001/4003 (black), or, - a Lakland (DJ4/JO5 - no natural or sunburst finishes), or, - a Bongo 5HH (any finishes except Shoreline Gold)... plus cash going either way dependent on what is on offer.     Buried somewhere on the It Bites website was news that he couldn't commit to the project so he left/was sacked. He was supposed to have been playing with Ray Davies/Kinks, but I think that stalled as well. I remember reading a thread on the It Bites forum along the lines of 'What is Dick going to do now?'. I mean, WGAF? He's done OK during the hiatus years. He's not gonna go hungry. P

Arrived damaged (OK, possibly the fault of the courier) and spent ages trying to get Thomann to take product back. Their customer service was non-existent. Eventually they agreed, then the replacement product was lost in transit, to be located a couple of weeks later in a warehouse somewhere on the east coast. It was a bad experience and they offered no apology or incentive to use them again. Which I haven't. I suppose in their defence (and as this question has been raised previously), if you're ordering product that's small/lightweight you don't seem to have a problem... P
