NBD: Fender American Professional Classic Precision
danbanbass replied to HeadlessBassist's topic in Bass Guitars
Congrats on the bass, it’s a looker! Sounds like a match made in heaven. -
I refer to it as a light relic but I sent Luca photo examples of the relicing I was after. You can go from none to as much as you want. I asked Luca if he had a really dark rosewood fingerboard he could use for the build.

Hi @1Kay I’ve done a new bass day here: New Alnus Bass Day

NBD: Fender American Vintage II 60's Precision.

I have one in black, brilliant bass but swapped out the pickup for a emg gzr. -
I’ve already got one of those GZR on my American vintage 2 bass and to be honest there isn’t a lot between them.
-
I totally agree, that would be lack of thought on my part 😆
-
Luca does a video play though of all his basses he’s built. I was looking to change out the pickup for a Emg Gzr or a quarter pounder but honestly the stock pickup is decent! Measures 10.8k with alnico 5 magnets.
-
Thanks mate, the build quality is decent and my only criticism is the action needed tweaking and nut slots deepening a bit but other than that it’s decent! Even the pickup sounds great, I’ve only played it at home mind but will give it some at Rehearsal on Monday.

I first saw it on a run of Gibson Les Paul Custom Shops a while ago and has always sat at the back of my mind. So has been bubbling away for some time.

That’s a fair comment, I get up around 12ft quite often….usually to adjust intonation 😂

So after 3 months of waiting it’s arrived, I custom ordered a Precision Bass by Luca at Alnus Basses. (Insert joke about name here) There wasn’t an awful lot of information about them on the web, so set about tracking down owners across social media outlets, general consensus was he made lovely basses. I’ve always wanted a lime green metallic P Bass but Fender custom shop prices were out of reach for me especially when buying blind. I contacted Luca and gave him the specs I wanted and went through step by step with him in regard to colour shades/pickguard colours etc. I liked the fact he made the necks and bodies out of raw materials rather than pre made husks of the shelf, all paint/relicing and pickups were done in house and I liked the thought of a bass being built in a lovely Italian village (My family originates from Italy so this was a little piece of Italy). So for the result, it’s beautifully made and very resonant! The colour may not be to everyone’s tastes but I’m really happy with it, it needed a little setup to get it how I wanted it and it’s lovely. Just waiting for amp to warm up before plugging it in, if the pickup isn’t my bag I have a couple laying around including a Fender PV60 and Seymour Duncan Quarterpound. I will more than likely fit a badass 2 bridge to it aswell which I have spare.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some bass strings, preferably 45-105 hex core, I’ve been a fan of Stainless steel round wounds. I was a big fan of DR DDT strings but the price of these are astronomical in my eyes. I got a deal on Warwick red label strings which I use for gigging purposes and last alright but will be heading to the studio in Jan so want to use some nice strings for then. I like strings that keep their zing and don’t dull down very quickly so any advice would be great. Cheers.

My custom bass order has just been completed and here’s a little teaser while I wait for it to arrive next week. 😁

For sure, nitro aside it’s unbelievable how close the neck profiles are. Yeah there is a 2mm nut difference which makes the cv feel slinkier to play, but that aside it punches well above its weight.

**Price drop - £400** Up for sale is my 2008 Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass This is from the first year of production from the Grand Reward Factory in China, there is lots of information about these online and don’t come up very often - there is currently one up for sale on eBay for £650. These are the more sought after models which were built to a higher standard than the later Indonesian models where they used Laurel fretboards rather than Rosewood and to not such a high QC standard. They only made the sonic blue finish for over a year or so. The bass has been fret polished, strung up with new strings and set with a nice action. It has some marks/dints which can be expected for age of it and there is a paint chip through to the wood on the rear of the body by the neck. This however happened before my ownership. There are no cracks or stress marked around the neck pocket. I have a cheap fender soft bag which will come with it. I have just weighed the bass using a couple of different scales and it comes in at 3.8kg/8lbs 6oz. Based near Stamford in Rutland.
