1. Bump on my behalf for a lovely bass and excellent guy!
2.
I appreciate that this isn't necessarily where you're going with this thread, but don't lose sight of the fact that you don't always want the bass to "cut through". Much of the time, we're there to provide the under-pinning ... as much felt as heard. On a lot of the stuff we play in my covers band, a bass tone which cuts through with ease and can be clearly heard all the time would be bloody irritating!
Oh no, I totally agree! We aren't all Jaco and don't need to be at the front of what is going on. Grooving away for everyone else is just as important too. What I was referring to were the cases when I have seen bands, both pro and amateur that that bass has no presence in the sound at all, and whether the bass itself has anything to do with it. Sort of do people think that a particular bass has a natural ability to cut through...
3. I've always wondered what the opinions of people are on this one, but how do you think the different basses/styles of basses cut through the mix? There's always talk of how P and Js sit in the mix but what are people's experience with them in a band setting? My personal experience has been that my Rickenbacker has occasionally sounded weak but often fantastic. The StingRay cuts through anything with no EQ what so ever. I've heard a fair few situations where a P has been mostly unheard in the mix (Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac), which got me wondering about this. I'm of the opinion that with the right engineer and EQing, anything could cut through and have presence but that's not always possible in gigs! Thoughts? So, throw your hats and let's see what people think
4.
if this was a 210 or even if it ha d a tweeter i'd be allover it... especially seeing as you're local. but i'm after something brighter... (and smaller) for an extension cab.
Sure you can't be persuaded? It makes a killer combination with a 4x10, which is the ideal bass setup in my opinion I've added some better photos btw!
5. Another bump before it goes on eBay tonight, with a price drop
6. Yet another bump, I'm going to have to think about the dreading eBay quite soon for this! I'm now open to offers so just let me know what you are willing to pay and I might just accept
7.
Or considerably less - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=90280
If only that was cherryburst, not a fan of that grey at all!
8. The Italia Rimini Bass looks very very nice, along the lines of the Rickenbacker 4005. How is the build quality on these things? Found it for £399 new, which must mean they knock around the £300 mark second hand...
9.
I have a black Hohner B2A Steinberger style four string fretless for sale. Bought this in 1994 (I think) as an easy to carry way to add a fretless to my arsenal. Hardly used then or since. It’s in very good condition – high gloss black finish, a few dinks here and there, main one where rear bottom strap button (should have 2) is missing and bass has scraped on ground. It has some roundwound scuffing on the fingerboard. Slightly scratchy pots, which I’ll fix if I have time. Restrung with Elites a few weeks back in anticipation of sale.
Do you have any audio clips or videos of how this one sounds? Does it come with a case?
10.
Wouldn't pay any more than that, but not bad considering it's vintage & with the Matsumoko connection, though would expect it to be in good nick. Not really a version of anything Gibson. They were a budget model at the time with bolt-on shortscale neck & totally hollow maple laminate body. Epiphone EA-260 catalogue It's similar in construction to my Commodore, no doubt same factory...which is easy to play, lightweight, good tone, fun to dig into. EA-260 Harmony reviews
Seemed to be in good condition but i wasn't sure - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290461158774 I will keep an eye out but there never seems to be many hollows on eBay!
11. I've just seen an Epiphone EA-260 go for £200 on eBay which seems a steal. What can you tell me about them? A 70s version of the Gibson hollow?
12. This is very convincing. It's got that hollow-feel as well as a lot of meat to it! Any one else got an examples of this bass live or recordings. How does it cut through?
13. Another bump and another price drop, I'm really getting strapped soon guys so any offers chuck 'em this way!
14.
Here's my Eastwood Classic 4 in action....
Where did you get your Eastwood from? It's pretty much what I want...don't suppose you would like to sell that to a poor student, gv'nor?
15.
Look up the lakland website http://www.lakland.com/ac_hollowbody-tapped.htm Have a listen to that not bad eh?
The neck pickup with flats and Jazz is exactly the tone I want! Just a shame the Lakland Hollow is £1000+ new. Do they ever come around used?
16. I've heard nothing but good things about the Eastwood - Ed thinks it is great here and even owns one himself - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmSUjhcJaPo and AndyTheBassBison loves his http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=68710 I wasn't a fan of the Ibanez Artcore, the body is too deep for my liking. I'm debating a Hofner Contemporay Club, espcially if I can get one second hand! This Epiphone Rivoli would have been ideal but out of the price range - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=270620499798 The search continues!
17. You can get an excellent slap sound from a P, even with flatwounds mate. Take a look at this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5oSGkPUc_0 to see what I mean Each time I watch it, it reminds me of how much I want a P. I owned a Classic Vibe Fiesta Red and that was sexy as hell. I did a review ages ago and it sounded awesome.
18. I'm on the look out for a hollowbody bass, relatively inexpensive that is along the classic lines of a Gibson EB-2 or Guild Starfire. I've been hoping to grab a DeArmond Starfire as it fits the bill perfectly but I have not yet seen any for sale on eBay, this forum or anywhere else. Any thoughts where to find one? Also any other suggestions? The Eastwood Classic 4 is another ideal option but they are £465 cheapest to buy in this country and they don't come around much for sale. The Epiphone Jack Casady is a little too expensive and doesn't have the neck pickup. I'm looking that thick chunky sound! Thoughts away folks
19. The tuner has now gone so just the power supply and Digital Delay left folks
20. Thanks Colin for the bump, here's another one for a price drop
21. John Martyn and Mr Gilbin must have made the most apt post-10:30pm music ever. Alongside some Steely Dan and Air, there is nothing better than this for late night chilled listening.
22. Bump for a price drop and excellent loud cabinet!
