  1. I've got a Hoyer too. Great vintage tone. Haven't seen another like mine. Yours is in much better nick.
  2. I’ve only just discovered Talk Talk https://www.nme.com/news/music/mark-hollis-talk-talk-reportedly-died-aged-64-2453863

  4. Fair point, can’t argue with that.
  5. https://apple.news/AOHEB3XQfTnqmUyGae3fh_w Any notable omissions? Suzi Quatro is surprisingly low down on the list, to my mind anyway.
  6. It's a Reeve. See attached link: http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.com/search?q=+a+visit+to+val+reeve And I'm sorely tempted.
  7. Paul Young: how we made Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home) https://www.theguardian.com/music/2018/sep/18/paul-young-how-we-made-wherever-i-lay-my-hat-thats-my-home?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
  8. Just wondering which conservatory you're applying for and why? I'm asking because I'm a similar age and would love to do something comparable. Also, in terms of entry requirements, are they expecting Grade 8 and sight reading competence?
  9. N.B. First paragraph.
  10. Our drummer never gets a round in.
  11. And here’s a publicity shot of the aforementioned:
  12. My Dad played tea chest bass in the Coney Island Skiffle Group. They were on the bill at The Cavern on its opening night. No connection with Coney Island. They were from The Wirral.

  18. This follows on from a previous topic I posted regarding muting the E and A strings. I'm having to readjust my technique, with some difficulty. Of course I wish that I'd been shown the correct technique initially. What else do you know now that you really wish you'd been told when you first started out?
  19. Seems like a good idea to me: https://www.ronniescotts.co.uk/performances/view/4336-the-ronnie-scotts-music-instrument-amnesty-vol
  20. Just watched the Bass Muting Technique (Controlling your Tone) video. It was really informative and useful. Thank you so much.
  21. I habitually rest my thumb on the E string when playing. My new bass teacher is insistent that I should also rest my thumb on the A string when playing the D and G strings. Before I spend a fair amount of time trying to incorporate this into my technique, I was wondering what the Basschat community thinks about this approach?
  22. Boomtown Rats on the case. Wonder if there's a connection?
  23. Looking for someone that can motivate and inspire a 14 year old.

  25. Went for £161. Thanks for all the suggestions.
