1. I will visit. It's good to hear other viewpoints though. Staff can and will give a rose tinted viewpoint of their course and the institution.
2. Ambient, I owe you a lot. Thank you. That's really helpful.
3. I may have an opportunity to take a year's sabbatical and I've been considering studying for a BTEC or equivalent at the aforementioned Music schools. BIMM doesn't appear to have great online reviews and there isn't much available on ICMP. Any Basschatters have experience, inside knowledge? I'm open to other places as well as long as they're in London.
4. #Basslines6Music - celebrating the basslines in music To mark the death of King Crimson bassist John Wetton, 25 years of Fabio & Grooverider plus, on what would have been Dennis Brown's 70th birthday (1st Feb) and Bob Marley's 72nd (6th Feb), Tom compiles a playlist around the bass guitar.
5. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/woody-eclectro-acoustic-bass/1208394522 Any clues? Not to my taste, certainly.
6. There's a free (I think) app, Bass Tabs produced by Jelly Note. That has the tabs.
7. Miceberg - this link will work better: https://www.facebook.com/micebergband/
8. Alt rock 4 piece. If Freddie Mercury and Kurt Cobain had a love child, it might sound a bit like Miceberg. London, England·facebook.com/micebergband
9. Kala U Bass from Bass Direct. Best price I could find online and I'm loving the portability. Will be travelling with me pretty much every overnight stay. I took my Fender Jaguar to Australia last year and it was no fun lugging it around. Getting more accustomed to the polyurethane strings.
10. Went for this approach in the end. Didn't fancy flogging a dead horse.
11.
I see this as you are out for what appears to be reasonable reasons and people rarely chage their mind once made. IMO it depends how good a gig this was for you on what you do next. If it was amazing then it is worth chasing with compromise, if it was average I would just send back "no worries, really enjoyed playing the show, let us know when you want us" and keep it on good terms as he may have other events. 12. My band was offered a residency as the house band at a comedy club. As our first gig there was in December we did a mixture of our own stuff and covers including some Christmas numbers. I emailed the organiser to check he was happy and see if he had any requests for January. (It takes place once a month.) His reply has been copied and pasted below. Just wondering if, as I strongly suspect, he feels it isn't working out - or there might be room for manoeuvre. I certainly don't to be like some clingy boy/girlfriend hanging on when it's clearly all over! "Glad you had fun! Yeah went well -the Xmas toons & nice audience! Let's maybe leave it for Jan and will have a think -its such a small stage and think would prob work better if more acoustic setup Keep you posted if anything else comes up Just have to be careful with the back room cos of noise pollution for neighbours and also audiences need to have a preshow chat Worked well with Christmas toons tho! Maybe have some soppy ones for a valentines show? Haha?? Be good to maybe involve the comedians too but prob need bigger venue!? Have a lovely Christmas and hope to see you on new year!"
13. I use the Christmas tree ones. Have made an appointment with Boots having read this thread but now wondering if I really need to shell out £100+ We rehearse once a week and gig about twice a month in pubs. If I can cope with what I can hear using the Christmas tree plugs, is it necessary to upgrade?
14. This could be good: http://www.roughtrade.com/events/2016/9/2472
15. Miceberg return from their summer break with another gig at The Islington on Friday 2nd September. We'll be hitting the stage at 9.45 for a 30 minute refresher course in how to make noises. The Islington, 1 Tolpuddle St., London N1 0XT Also, join us for Miceberg's first ever festival appearance! 16. App Store on iPhone. Search for 'bass tabs jellynote'.
17. There's a brilliant free app called Bass Tabs. It's available on there.
18.
Thanks for that, super quick. I did wonder if it was some brand new boutique thing with a retro vibe. Almost as cool as its owner...
Much like myself, despite the pot belly, receding hairline and halitosis.
19. It's a Wandre Davoli Tigre Basso. Italian from the mid '60s. Aluminium neck. I've got one.
20.
Does anyone know what the bass played by his partner in GOASST is. Can't make out the name on the body, could be Framus? http://ks.c.yimg.jp/res/chie-que-14152/14/152/524/344/i320
21. I'm on holiday and I stumbled across a stall selling Cigar Box guitars. Sadly, there were no bass versions available. He seemed dubious as to whether it was possible to produce such a thing. Anyone on Basschat got one, made one? What're they like?
22. My band has had a couple of videos and audio produced recently all for free. I contacted various film schools and university audio production courses and suggested that their students might want to practise their craft. The response was enthusiastic and we have been very pleased with the results. Here's a link to the first one that's been completed: https://youtu.be/hhxKsQqm2bs See if you can spot the slight continuity error! There are others in the pipeline with a narrative. Thought it might be an idea that other members here might want to explore. 23. Anything ever come of this? Anyone get an audition? When can we see it on TV?
24. Any love for these basses on the forum? Anyone actually own one? They look amazing, particularly the Tigre Basso, but there isn't a huge amount of information about them available online.
