I'm looking for a 2nd black JMJ Mustang for my wife.
Sorry but that really does read like a trade!Seriously though I can see why, they really are great basses.

Seeing as a previous poster took it that I'm not able to respond to flippant remarks I feel I need to start this reply with 🤣 LOL etc. and to explain that I understand that is a joke.

Still though, if you and I bought a million used Basses each it has an overall environmental impact - it creates global demand for 2 million more Basses to be made.
Maybe, just maybe I was being flippant…

For the sake of breaking up the echo chamber love-in with an opposing view:
Inequalities and over-consumption are two of the biggest problems on the planet, this thread indirectly celibrates both.
It's might be small change to your environmental impact to have one Bass rather than dozens but it's more about the attitude and considering perhaps its not the best thing for the planet and fellow humans to over-consume. And perhaps as so many people struggle to just get by in the world it's naive or selfish to celibrate that over-consumption.
(I'm saying this for the sake of argument, I have lots of unnecessary stuff - including more than one Bass).
I definitely try and reduce the impact by…mainly buying used basses! 🤣- 6

Yep, spend some time measuring and researching what is similar in measurements (nut width, neck dimensions, body style etc) if you want somewhere near similar to what you have currently. Likewise on pickup placement. If you’re a finger style player and anchor your thumb on the top of the pickup, changing the pickup layout on your next bass will require a little readjustment on your part. Not a deal breaker but worth mentioning for a new or newish player.
Also +1 for used. The OLP Levin mentioned above that’s available in the classifieds would be a good option. As would the 5 string MusicMan SUB in the classifieds. Both in the £300-£500 category and both a hell of a lot of bass for the money. While you haven’t got the distance selling option on used gear, you’ll likely not lose out on those examples financially at least should you decide to then move it on either…

No number is too many. Personally it’s whether I think the number of them I have is just daft or, as others have said, it causes financial issues on ‘real world’ stuff.
I’m at 7 and all (to me) do a sufficiently different thing to warrant me keeping them all, and also means there’s a better chance of me playing them all to some degree at times.
I also set myself the challenge now that if I’m buying anything I sell something to at least partly finance it. I sure don’t ‘need’ another bass so one (or more) out, one in works and helps keep me in check. It also acts as a rationalising exercise.

I'm an enthusiastic bassist with a limit to my talent.
Hey, don’t be so hard on yourself. Seems fairly clear you’re not the issue here. All depends if you think it’s worth fighting for really. What does the rhythm player think? And the drummer? Can’t be fun being drowned out and working to and bending to the whims on the fly of someone who can’t be arsed to learn the song structures. That ain’t got a damn thing to do with being a ‘feel player.’

I would try emailing Fender customer services for an official answer.
I recently purchased an Ashdown head from Germany. I contacted Ashdown and they said the head would be fine in the UK, but suggested a UK power lead rather than a plug adapter.
+1 to this. Had need to contact Fender UK/Europe quite recently. Very helpful and a speedy response by email.- 1

I look forward to seeing this in other finishes -
a brown or olive called weaning baby poo;
a white called 80s dog crap;
a black called no 50 pences for the leccy meter;
a red called Burned English man on the Med
I mean, the possibilities really are endless.

Like the look of these cabs. GLWTS.
PS - you may want to edit your ad based on the impedance shown in the pics.

Only own passive basses.
Volume dimed, tone dimed.
Regardless of what the pickup/s is/are. Unless there’s a J pickup, in which case that’s turned right off.
Its the way I’ve always been with basses. Everything open, with any changes needed thereafter being tweaked at amp stage.

Fair Deal is just a couple of miles up the road from me. I saw this, considered and stroked my chin a good deal then bought a JMJ instead which I absolute love.
After reading this I believe equilibrium is restored!

Is that a Sunn Beta clone? Recognise the layout from when I had a Sunn Beta combo in the early 80s.
Yep. Exactly that. Sounds great on both guitar (in the brief dalliance I’ve had) and bass. Cracking bit of kit.- 1

Sweet - I really like that parallel processing thing - same as the Pearce - one for dirt and one for body - is that how you're using it or as 2 channels with footswitch?
Separate channels via footswitch at present. There is a footswitch that comes with the preamp but I’m switching via a Bright Onions ABY on my board.

Not got a shot ‘in the wild’, but here’s mine.
Doing a bass/drums noisy two-piece thing currently. Very happy with this setup for it, and the first time I’ve gone down the rack route.
Crown XLS 1502 Power amp and
Hilbish Design Beta Preamp (doubt there are many in the UK. I got very lucky finding this I think given the high shipping and import fees).
Using both channels, each going to separate cabs. Channel 1 dirty bass (from the drive on the preamp), Channel 2 routed through an octave up, dirtbox and other stuff.
The photo doesn’t do the preamp justice either, it’s a lovely black sparkle finish
Sounds gloriously massive.

That’s a cracker. Much prefer them with the Limelight logo on them personally. GLWTS.

Damn, two weeks too late to have saved me £170 on a new one.
Regardless, I absolutely love mine, they’re great basses. This should fly! GLWTS.

I take my hat off to those who are kind enough to share basses out, you’re genuinely warm-hearted people.
Not for me though. For me these days it’s neither my fault or problem if you’re not prepared enough for the gig you’re playing.
If you’ve blown your amp up, go through the desk. If you’ve knackered your bass and don’t have a backup, well there’s a very important lesson you’ve learned. And if I lend you a bass a) I don’t know you so therefore it’s something of a liability and b) you likely won’t learn that important lesson…
I do love that many of you are so much nicer than me though!

I have just converted the only long scale 34" 4 string bass that I´ve got to BEAD tuning.
I do not use the upper registers that the G string offers that much and, on the other hand, I like the availabilty of the lower notes that the "extra string" provides me and I also like the less tension in the strings overall.
But the stretch in the lower frets is still the same so I was wondering if any of you use or have used that setting in a short scale bass (which is the scale I use the most).
Thanks!
I went this route the best part of 20 years ago with a Precision. It was a great move for me.
The band I was in at the time called for heavy downtuning or a B string. I’ve never been a fan of floppy downtuned strings and couldn’t get on with a 5 string at all at the time. New nut, bit of truss rod adjustment etc and a set of Ernie Ball Beefy Slinkys and I never looked back. It’s still strung that way now, sounds like thunder and remained my main bass well after that band split up. Only isn’t now as I’ve shifted to shortys in my current band.
Not tried it yet with a s/s but it has crossed my mind.- 1

9 year-old on a short-scale. Yes, her dad's a music teacher and he's mates with Victor Wooten but still...
I’m no fan of the gurning bass face and playing to the camera stylings of most of the Insta/TikTok crowd if I’m honest, even when the playing is out of this world. I love this vid though. The difference? She actually genuinely looks like she’s having fun…

I think in your original post you actually raised some very valid questions in fairness. Though, also in fairness, to liken yourself to Greta Thunberg in whatever small way for the some of the responses to your post when you literally said in your opening post that it was “for the sake of argument” is maybe a tad OTT.
Regardless, as an extension to those valid points, to make the vast majority of these basses work to their full potential we need electricity. It’s all worthy of consideration, and being mindful of, but it’s a never ending rabbit hole too I guess.
