I'm using Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Short Scale 45-105 strings on both. The Tone rider pickup gives me more of a jazz type sound (bit brighter than a P bass), but the Armstrong pickup is a lot deeper, with more thump. The body on the darker bass is thicker and heavier than the lighter one as well, which will undoubtedly add to the difference.....
