  1. There's some great stuff around these days for sure; outstanding playing, teaching and gear reviews can be found easily on the platform.

A development that I find interesting is that many of the productions have become incredibly slick and perhaps that has become an end in itself?

Take Jonny Dibble for example - his technique and timing leave a lot to be desired but he seems to personify the modern 'unboxing/gear-review' presenter and is obviously very appealing. I wonder how much of that appeal is due to his skills in knowing the genre and audience, producing and editing chops and investing in top quality gear. An influencer with a bass?

Just a thought - maybe it's always been like this!

    What a Billy bargain

Quite! She needs a new home though - I'm medium scale on all my fours now and I've never been a JB guy anyway, but she's served me well as a versatile gigging bass that I didn't need to feel too precious about.

    Cheers,

NBD!!  After much deliberation, finally decided to take the plunge on this drop-dead-gorgeous (IMHO) Cali ll TM SL 2-band active that Thomann had in stock. Only just unpacked it but I can report that the build quality and playability are spot on - as I expected, having owned a Lionel. Thanks to its paulownia body and lightweight machine-heads, this one weighs next to nowt and still balances perfectly on the strap. I'll post more feedback when I've got to know it properly.

2? Good work! I nearly bought a Jake in that colour scheme and often kick myself quite a bit for not doing so .

Cheers! I've had a gear overhaul over the last year, including migrating to medium scale. An active Shuker PM should be finished imminently to complete the trio.

Who wants a 42mm nut? Seriously.

Apart from that and the after thought headstock, I kinda like the white.

Me. And probably anyone who favours a P-style neck over a J. 40mm perhaps could have satisfied both preferences? I'm still not overly keen - always feels like a compromise to me.

38mm nut width necks, touted as 'fast', are swapped into P-style basses more often than vice versa. Good technique, profile and finish are far more significant in rendering a neck 'faster' IMO. Horses for courses and all that...

  6. Sounds brilliant in the BTW demo! Well-featured too, with the HPF, Scoop and Grit. Separate footswitches for the latter two would be even better but their absence wouldn't be a game-changer for me. I suspect I'll end up getting one of these even though I definitely don't need it 🙄
