  1. Here is my German-made, 2005 Warwick Corvette Double-Buck (serial number: K-119269-05) in red. Owned from new. What a beast of a bass! Massive output. There is some superficial but unsightly damage to the finish, none of which is visible from the front (see photos). The just-a-nut is also damaged, as seems to have been the case with many produced at this time. However, it still functions perfectly. The bass has recently been set up, including new D'addario strings. Ships with Warwick gigbag. Feel free to come and play - I live in Manchester. 2. Black Vintage Tokai Hard Puncher with maple fretboard for sale. 1982 or earlier (spaghetti logo; serial number 1013717), though my research isn't comprehensive. This P-Bass copy plays absolutely beautifully (better than any Fender I've picked up) with a great sound to boot. Obviously worn, as expected for a bass of this age. Some dinks in the body work and neck lacquer and rusting to some screws. I've owned the bass for more than eleven years. Previous owner has fitted reverse pegs (I have originals) and in doing so superficially cracked the base of the headstock (see pictures). The bass has recently been set up with a nice low action. The playability really is exceptional. By all means come round to see and play (I live in Manchester). Very reluctant sale.[attachment=169578:IMAG0318.jpg][attachment=169579:IMAG0319.jpg][attachment=169580:IMAG0320.jpg][attachment=169581:IMAG0321.jpg][attachment=169582:IMAG0322.jpg][attachment=169583:IMAG0323.jpg][attachment=169584:IMAG0324.jpg]

*I forgot to mention that somebody's glued the knobs onto the pots - slightly annoying.

I'm currently flying the Phil Jones flag, those 5" drivers are amazing, even low B, and the Super Flightcase would suit your spec nicely, great personal monitoring on this model too. http://www.philjonespuresound.com/products/?id=11

They're just so expensive. Do they justify more than three times the price of the Genz Benz?

  4. Thanks for all your help. It sounds as though the Genz is the popular choice and that suits me. Will the 10-inch speakers give enough low end for a five-string too? How advisable is an extension cab such as the Genz Benz FCS-115T? Thanks again.

  5. Thanks for the quick replies. What amps/cabs would you recommend instead? I have looked at a second-hand Ashdown Mag 300 evo II and matching 4x10 and liked it, but could only afford second hand. Any suggestions appreciated.

  6. Whilst I have been playing for more than fifteen years, I've never had any interest in the technicalities of gear. For some years I've been playing an early eighties Tokai Hardpuncher and a Warwick Corvette $$, both four-string, which have served me well. My amp for a long time was a Trace Elliot combo (around 300 watts).

Having looked at combos around the 250 watt mark in more detail recently, I'm confused as to the best option to go with and thought some wise advice would not go wanting.

I mainly play gospel in churches and larger venues and a variety of covers material (from Motown to modern pop-rock) in function bands. I'm also looking at getting a five-string bass soon. My main questions are as follows:

    1. How much difference does cone size make, especially with a five-string?
    2. Is 250 watts (with di) enough for my needs?
    3. Do aluminium cones make a big difference?

Build quality/reliability and ease of repair are important to me and I don't want to spend more than £450 and ideally less. I'm happy with second hand, however.

I am considering the Hartke Hydrive 115c, the TC Electronic BG250-115, the Ashdown MAG C210T-300 EVO III, the Markbass CMD 151 Jeff Berlin Players School and the more powerful Genz Benz Contour CTR500-210T. Are any of these, or indeed any others preferable for what I'm after?

    Many thanks,

    Tobie
