  1. The Dimension I tried was ace! Yolanda Charles made hers sing too.

Playing devil's advocate for a second (though to be clear I agree with everything you said), when they do try something new nobody wants it. Remember the dimension bass?

  2. To my mind, the F-Trap just seems to be becoming more and more conspicuous by the year. I get it - some players want to feel a part of the brand and its incredible legacy, some want to own and trade collector's pieces and some just don't know what else is out there because their local shop has such a poor range of stock.

In my experience, Fenders are sometimes excellent, often fine and sometimes terrible; I don't think they're consistent enough and I'd certainly not buy one sight unseen. But the prices are astonishing, all for fewer options and often sketchier QC than the multitude of available equivalents. The company seems to actively avoid innovation and puts very little effort into marketing new products and yet the trap still works, possibly better than ever. The power of strong branding, eh...

  3. Excellent choices! Good on you for taking the plunge and for supporting your daughter so proactively too. There's a near-infinite supply of knowledge and good will to share on here so don't hesitate to ask questions as you venture down the various rabbit holes that have ensnared us all. Best of luck with everything and, most of all, enjoy!

Start with 100% octave down, probably the Bass Octaver though not as synthy as some might like. Following that some modulation, I’m having a lot of fun with Octaver into a Vibrato currently, maybe a sansamp model between them just to phatten up some of the sound.

The key for synth sounds is always starting with that 100% octave down to remove your attack and give you a more keyboard like attack, most people will then go fuzz and filter but if you can get the octaver sounding a bit gritty (which I’ve done with EQ) then modulation gives it the movement most synth lines are played

    Cheers mate - much appreciated!
