Even if you are 100% hard over in the red all the time you will be fine. You are not going to damage it.
Spoke to Dave Green at Ashdown. He said you are likely to damage the input stage if you hard over in the red all the time

I thought the Direct recording of the p bass with the jive circuit built in sounded great. I doubt I’ll use it for distortion, just want it to fatten the sound and get slightly gritty.
funnily enough, it’s just arrived, so I’ll report back if you’re interested.
Check out their business card - looks like it’s an actual functioning PCB board - pretty cool

Tuner on the floor as it mutes when tuning

I’ve ordered a JPTR jive pedal as seen here:
It replicates tape saturation & distortion/fuzz. I’m going to run the jive similar to the chap in the video I.e where the signal gets ‘fat’ just before the point of breakup and intend it as an always on pedal.
It seems to me this will be doing a similar job to a compressor. Do you think I’ll be able to lose the compressor or should I use it with a compressor?
I suppose the answer is to try it and see, but I thought I’d ask basschatters for advice anyway
thanks

As long as you’re not hard over permanently in the red you should be fine
I'm not & now that I think about it, I can probably get the engaged/unengaged volumes to match by turning the octave volume down & adjusting the blend.
However, I would be interested to know the implications if the VU was constantly hard in the red

Purchased a pedal off Paul. Very easy to deal with. Pedal arrived quickly with excellent comms throughout. Many thanks

Would I be doing any damage overdriving the preamp? On the vu meter I occasionally hit the red, however, when I engage my octave pedal it boosts the input volume and the vu meter is constantly in the red? It adds a bit of grit and sounds pretty nice, but I’m slightly concerned I’d be damaging the amp. Any advice here?

I watched it on Sky Arts this week. Good documentary.
There was a short clip of a live performance from Stevie Wonder. I'm gonna have to hunt the full version down - the band were cooking!

When I had a small bass rig, I ended up carrying more of the Drums/PA in & out of venues. So I figured I may as well have a bigger rig

I agree, when you review overall it is either a Markbass , Orange or hitting up at Ampeg. I dont mind the weight of course
I adore the Valve sound ( SVT Owner for a while ) , I'll have to rescan the fields, I wasn't sure if they were going todo a Mark V so was Dreaming/hopingThis is the best deal I can find for a new one

I do keep recommending these guys throughout this thread, but I’ve never used them.

Slightly off topic , for not being a owner bar a 115ABM cab that's used as my easy to the car cab for Isolation room practises etc.
But why oh why is new gear so ridiculously expensive? £700 for a ABMIV600 head unit, Even a decent 2nd hand one is going for sub £500!Such a PITA to find something that is decent with a Valve pre for example that is worth the money with out spending days on days scanning the ads , Is it too hard to just want the Jon Stockman Sound awake album bass tone!
I’ve seen some excellent deals for these new and second hand recently.
Gear is expensive, However when I was looking at buying a head, the ashdown Abm 600 seemed fairly reasonably priced compared to some of its competitors.

Joking aside, I'm guessing KY would do the trick? The thing I liked about the original lube was that the excess was easy to rub into the skin to get it off my fingers - it's not as greasy feeling as Vaseline.
Buy some more?

I’m fairly new to these, i have found it’s essential to create a seal to get them to attenuate evenly - any slight gaps and it’s overly bassy

I enjoyed the first 2 albums. Not really liked anything by them since, but honestly the state of pop music & you take issue with Coldplay. Don’t get it!

The ABM210H Pro Neos are for the money and size / weight an amazing cab and I found two stacked in my rock band a good match with my Abm600
I then took the decision to see if I could fill out the band sound even more with 15” cabs in ported variant.
Tried the ABM115H ported cab and was pleased with the depth of sound but stocks of new cabs are non existent at present ( February delivery quoted ) so I scrapped that plan
If I could afford to keep both I would hold on to the Neos as they are so light and easy to carry around.
I can carry both my two Neo cabs one in each hand ! Try doing that with some cabs !For me the hunt continues but I can vouch for the Neo cabs as certainly up to the job unless you are playing huge venues !
did you see the link to musik produktiv - available for £299. Lots of people on here successfully used them when they were selling off the rm heads for cheap -

I wonder if @BassAdder27 has the right idea with 2 x 115s as you'd probably get the overall ooomph of a 410 but in a more portable package! Either that or go the BF route . . .
Personally I’d be looking at 2nd hand. You’ll not know what you like until you try it at volume with a band, and even then it’ll take a few rehearsals until you know for sure.if you go 2nd hand, you’ll be able to sell on for similar money. With regard to BF I’d definitely try and listen to a cab before purchase. Or you can return a cab after a month if you don’t like it for around £30. I had the 10’s and for me they didn’t live up to the hype. That said, lots of people love them

Just can't decide on whether to go with the RM-414 EVOII 600W or 2 x ABM115H . . . .
I’ve not heard he pro neo ABM’s, but I would go (standard heavier) ABM’s over Rm cabs any day

I love my ashdown 15’s. They don’t have horn or tweeter but they sound massive

I’ve been trying to work on my rhythm lately. I don’t know if this will be advanced enough for many here, but check out rhythm trainer app.
I have found some of the exercises to be pretty useful -
Hi All, Recently got a 3d printer at my work and we're running some sample parts through it.
I took that as a good opportunity to design a little bracket for my power supply, to free up some space on top of my pedalboard.
I think the design should work reasonably well, the idea is I can slide the power supply out if I need to but I am slightly concerned about the tab - but lets see how it goes. I'll also create some spacers for the feet as there is not enough clearance.
Might be slightly over engineered, but its free and it'll help us understand how the printer works.

I've been thinking about the Ashdown ABM 610 available in the classifieds since it's a good price and not too far from me. I've been using a Barefaced Supertwin with my ABM600 and I can't help but feel it's a bit harsh sounding with the amount of drive that I use (maybe it's my EQ?) I also have a Barefaced 610 that I'm yet to try but I feel that something like the Ashdown 610 may suit me better since they're apparently a bit darker sounding.
I had 2 x 210 barefaced cabs. I prefer the ashdowns - didn’t expect to, but I did. Plus I picked the cabs up for £100 each, which in comparison is a steel.
I am intrigued by the BF super compact though, I think that would have been more my thing.
There is 410 on eBay for a decent price

Yep, I go shape in and scoop the mids slightly. I’ll try isolating the 340hz and see how it goes

Here's my rig:
Always thought Ashdowns got a bit of a bad name, but the above rig is excellent - I've also got a 210 evo ii cab if I'm using the Pbass.

I have an ABM 1200 at my practice room - I guess if you've got 2x 4 ohm speaker cabs and you want to get 600w to each, then maybe its worth looking at. Or if you want more than 2x Speaker cabs. They are pretty damn heavy though.
I'd be interested in how everyone sets their EQ, whether they use onboard compressor etc.

Tarantino has some classic spots- Little Green Bag and Stuck In The Middle With You in Reservoir Dogs were great, and You Never Can Tell in Pulp Fiction, too.
Loads of blaxploitation stuff as well- Shaft, Super Fly, etc.
It was only a matter of time till Tarantino was mentioned. I’m a massive fan. I’ve seen him interviewed and he essentially storyboards his movies with music really early in the process - I think even before the script.
speaking of Tarantino, he features in this brilliant scene - he didn’t direct this one though.

Ashdown ABM owners club
in Amps and Cabs

Yep, surprised me too a bit. I figured guitarists are often overdriving amps without issue, so I assumed it would be similar for bass amps too.
