As a replacement for what? Into what sort of bass? What sort of sound are you going for? 😁

Hi Nick, i have a really nice Fender Jazz Elite, with noiseless pups and the truly bloody awful Fender active circuit. Well awful to my ears anyway, but might be great for others. It sounded glassy and hollow, and i tend to use preamps and compressor so can shape the tone. So, i have a Kiogin, VT, VT plus push/pull series/parallel loom and the Ironstone pups as i wanted Alnicos but also a warmer vintage tone but with the Jazz growl, which the Noiseless pups dont deliver.
the ironstones run quite hot, andcan produce a great range of tones, with the new loom.
i cant help thinking that Fender should do this , like they used to!

just about to fit the same loom into Fender Precision Ultra, but with Bloodstone pickups, as they do a nice PJ set, with a similar output to the ironstones but also hand wound, wax potted, and quality wiring.

both of these basses are keepers, and wonderful to play, but now i will have two passive basses, which i can tone shape, and still offer a really flexible range. Hope this helps.

  3. Here is a really nice Cort C4, which i had professionally defretted. It has nice ebony inlays in place of the frets, and plays very sweetly.

intonation is great, and accurate, and has had a pro set up at time of defretting.

only selling as i need to cull some of my basses, and tend to grab my other fretlesses first.

this is a brilliant introduction into fretless, or a great second bass.

these Cort basses are really nicely made, have a superb neck ( kind of jazz,  but faster) and also feature the Markbass active circuit.

    currently fitted with flats.

can come with a Sandberg gig bag for an extra £25.

    price includes postage.

    bit of a bargain really.........

  5. Hi all

as i am not loving the N3 pups, fender preamp combo!but love the bass , i am going passive.

i tend to use a tech 21 sansamp for preamp tone shaping anyway.

so the plan is to fit a new vol/vol/tone/tone loom from John at Kiogin ( top bloke imho), and was considering Ironstone pups as do t want to spend a fortune.

any thoughts or experience having do e a similar thing, gratefully received.

    thanks

I used to use Bergantino cabs but for whatever reason, they didn't do it for me. Too modern voiced?

Perhaps it was the amp combo? Mine are much less hifi than the mb’s and headroom improved straightaway.

each to his /her own says i.

  7. I used the Lm800 and two travellers very successfully for years and especially loved the VLE and VLF filters for getting ‘instant’ tone......until i tried Bergantino kit.

all i would say is try a pair of Hdn210 bergantino cabs. Same weight as travellers but boy oh boy, the difference is quite pronounced.

    good luck with your choice....
