1. Thanks for the confirmation Bubinga.
2. I know he recorded some classic Sly and the Family Stone tracks when he was about 16. Have a listen to 'I get high on you' for a good example of the pick and muting technique you refer to. Cheers, Mark.
3. Same guy is on this classic by Pleasure. There is some debate about the bass used. This sounds like a jazz bass to me and yet he was reputed to be a Ray user. Interesting!
4.
Bugger me...who's the bass player on this!
Pete, It was someone called Nathaniel Phillips. The album is called BC and is apparently very rare. Glad you enjoyed the track it is a belter!
5. Wish I knew I will try and find out. Picked up the Nard CD on your recommendation, thanks. Mark.
6. As far as Billy Cobham goes this one does it for me. The drums are spectacular check out the fills at 2.01 and 3.59......they're the dog's. The bass grooves nicely all the way through. Recorded in 1979. All round awesomeness!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgLWZa61XJs
7. I know this is synth bass, but there is a great groove going on and Bernard Wright's keys are superb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaMV69zhnXI
8. Like Bigwan said, I think his site affirms that he pretty much uses whatever he wants. As far as I know it isn't 'against the law' to endorse several instruments at the same time. Take Lee Sklar as an example, Yamaha, Dingwall and shortly Warwick. Cheers, Mark.
9. This guy is one of the all time greats in my book. I can't believe how funky his lines are. Truly awesome.
10. This guy is scary. He plays and endorses Ritter basses I think. I think his name is Aram Bedrosian and even though he is from Vermont in the States sounds like he might be of Armenian origin. Good post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3yr3MEV3N8&feature=related
11. A bit of interest but nothing firm yet. Monday night bump.
12. A couple of tracks from the same album, 1977's Sunlight. One of my particular favourites. Hope you like them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q25nUY3iEE&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6WrK7m4ZPk&feature=related
13. Short but very sweet from the bass monster Ed Poole. A great little groove played on his fretless jazz with the brilliant Gavin Harrison on drums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhk1D06-J-g
14. Hope this isn't a re-post. Masterful busy groove by the much under rated Alphonso Johnson.
15. Check this out. This is ultra rare from the late great Clyde Criner with some amazing drumming from Rodney Holmes. Reggie Washington is on bass. If you can find a copy of 'Colour of Dark' buy it, absolutely great stuff!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8OcPRusPL0
16. Great pic Area, thank you. This is exactly like my bass and to be fair I'm not unhappy with how it sounds or plays, or any aspect of it really. Just the fact that it is a 5 string. Haven't really thought about a straight sale to be honest, but if someone wants to buy then I'm prepared to lose the carriage cost and cost of the gig bag which would make the price around £750 ish. Thanks and regards, Mark.
17. Hi All, I have a brand new Frudua 5 string jazz bass in 3 tone sunburst that I would like to trade for a nice 4 string of some sort. I have realised that I'm not suited to playing 5 string. I would be interested in predominantly jazz type basses, but open to offers. The Frudua is a lovely bass, comes with Frudua gig bag is 34 inch scale and has a distinct look of an Alleva Coppolo bass. the pick ups are Di Marzio ultra jazz with a single coil at the neck and a switchable humbucker at the bridge. The bass cost just short of 880 euros with case and delivery from Italy. As you would expect from a 4 week old bass the condition is mint. Cheers for looking, Mark.
18. Here's another of my favourites. A cracking groove. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy3I7IuTuQM
19. Hello Steve, I'm not quite Merseyside but not too far away. All the best. Mark.
20. The vocal style might not be to everyone's taste but this is a great track and a great bass line from Marcus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=4Gje3gQxW9c
21. Must admit Manifest Destiny doesn't work for me from a groove perspective, although the playing is of course excellent. Much prefer the likes of Light Years, Too Young To Die, Return of the Space Cowboy, Mr Moon etc from Stuart Zender's period as groovin' tunes. Each to his own. Cheers, Mark.
22. Hi Bubinga, Is Prince playing bass on the second track? Sounds great, rhythm section is fantastic. Great post thanks.
23. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7w6lUYBFDM&feature=related She is a total bass monster. Hope you like this track. Introduced to me by a good friend and monster groove player Ed Poole. Great sound, nice note choice, great groove. All round good for me at least
