  1. If I didn't already have a Chase Bliss Wombtone Billy Strings on its way from the US, I’d be all over this. Really good price and an even bigger bargain when compared to the used prices of the Moog MF-103! GLWTS!
  2. I’m not sure how aware people are of Anaconda basses so I thought I’d share this latest custom to shine some light on these amazing instruments. Andrew is a talented luthier and I had been a fan of his custom basses for several years. Last Summer I approached Andrew about a possible build. My idea was to have a medium-scaled 5 with a vintage aesthetic and a sound inspired by a Ken Smith or Sadowsky Modern. I have always loved that Ken Smith sound but wanted something a little different looks-wise with some additional customisations. Andrew was incredible throughout the process, sharing his knowledge and advising on every single detail of the build. The end result is amazing and I couldn’t be happier. It was never the intention to simply build a Ken Smith clone but rather capture that general sound; but I must admit, it nails that KS sound! If anyone is considering a custom build, I can’t recommend Andrew enough. Based in North London. http://www.anacondabasses.co.uk/ Specs: Model: Anaconda Ultra J5E - Elite Body Core: Swamp Ash Top Wood: 3A Quilted Maple Neck: 3 piece Maple/Purple heart Fingerboard: Ebony Scale length: 32” Pickups - Armstrong ‘Handwound EMG shape with Ken Smith spec Preamp: Glockenklang 3-Band + Mid Passive tone control Bridge: Hipshot A Style –16.5-17mm Tuners: Hipshot Ultralites Lollipop Newtone Strings
  3. Great mods. Modern sound but with vintage looks. How does the sound compare with the Bantam?
  4. Really interesting. I’d love to try this with an e-c tuning. Oh dear…..
  5. A NPD that I thought might better suited to this thread. A newish builder based in Australia has released a clone of the Chunk Systems 00Funk and Brown Dog and put them in a single enclosure. https://www.thereallygoodpedalco.com.au/products/the-funky-puppy-50-deposit What really sold me on the pedal was the inclusion of an extra foot switch that allows you to toggle between the link feature without having to plug and unplug the cable in the same way that you needed to with the old Chunk System pedals. When both pedals are linked together, it becomes really touch sensitive and dynamic! Sound sample 1 Sound sample 2 Really enjoying it paired with an OC2 for deep synthy sounds.
  6. Meris make some incredibly powerful and deep effects and the Hedra is no exception. It’s described as a pitch shifter but can do much more. Zach Rizer did an in-depth review and is a brilliant demonstration of its capabilities on bass. It’s what sold me in the pedal! This is what Meris say: “Plug in to Hedra to expand your melody palette and unfold your landscape. 3 voices, in rhythm combine with your original voice to create angelic harmonies. Each voice can be delayed and fed back in 4 intricate matrices for either predictable or unpredictable results. Explore endless creative avenues with pitch corrective locking and glide modes, either smooth or hard stepped. Add sonic unease and texture by micro tuning each voice.” I’m reducing my pedal collection and find this just isn’t getting the use it deserves. In as new condition with fresh Velcro. Also comes with box, manual and power supply. Price includes postage or you are more than welcome to try out/collect from Reading. Whilst I’m trying to reduce, I’m also open to possible trades; especially for a nice preamp or compressor from the likes of Origin Effects.
  7. It was an absolute pleasure to speak with you Andy. I hope you like the bass when it arrives. Best wishes, Jason
  8. My New Year’s resolution is to play more with less; and focusing on just one instrument means I’m moving a few basses on. This is a Sandberg California 2 VS4 Lionel short scale with some custom options, namely front dots and a tastefully done soft-aged relic finish. I would describe it as in near mint condition but hard to tell with the relic finish!! It comes with a Sandberg gig bag and price includes postage to anywhere in the UK. You’re more than welcome to collect or try out if local to Reading or London. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Specs: Weight: 3.8 kg or 8.4 pounds Neck: Canadian maple, 39 mm at the nut, the neck has been fully plecked, lightweight tuners. Body: Ash Colour: 3-tone sunburst with soft-aged relic Scale: 30 inch Electronics: Passive volume and tone, Sandberg black label pickup
  9. That would be amazing. And a great example of a company listening to customer feedback. I was visiting the Yamaha store in central London today and spent a lot of time with the Ampeg PF-20. As much as I liked its tubey warmth, it might be a tad excessive to use just as di to go straight into my recording interface….I might wait to see if Origin come up with the goods before splurging on an actual tube head! The Ampeg is a lovely thing though….
  10. I’ve switched to playing short scales is the main reason. And I reduced the number of bases too. And it basically is brand new!
  11. Hi Karen, Yes, still for sale. I’d be happy to post 😊
  12. A really funky, syrupy envelope-controlled phaser from Pigtronix. These were discontinued some years ago and really don’t up come often. I spent 5 years searching but after finally getting one, I find my Source Audio C4 does an excellent emulation. This is in very good condition overall with only slight cosmetic issues with the decals. Unfortunately there is no original box but will be well packaged for shipping. Also, this requires an 18v power supply. Any questions, please feel free to ask.
  13. Chase Bliss make truly wonderful pedals and this is no exception. They describe this chorus/vibrato as being full of ‘ooey, gooey analogue goodness’ and it certainly is. As a traditional chorus, it has a lovely warmth and as vibrato, it can get very wobbly. Zack Rizer does a fantastic overview and demo of how great it sounds on bass: More information from the Chase Bliss website: https://www.chasebliss.eu/warped-vinyl-hifi This example is in excellent condition. I would describe it as mint if it weren’t for the velcro attached. It also includes the original box which is also in mint condition. Chase have ceased production of the Warped Vinyl so this may become increasingly rare in the future. My reason for selling is that my wife very kindly surprised me with another chorus pedal from Walrus Audio and it’s too much to have two fantastic pedals that make very similar sounds; sentiment wins the day…although truth be told I prefer the Chase Bliss. This is the most recent Hifi version that includes some very tasteful and useful changes from previous iterations including a tone knob that can push the high end or add even more warmth. HiFi also has several other improvements over previous versions of Warped Vinyl, including a lag knob for lush chorus tones, reduced noise, and opportunities for more transparent and brighter sounds. Price includes shipping. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
  14. My move to exclusively playing short scales continues and this one will likely hurt. This is the last long scale I own and ended my search for THE passive jazz bass. Sandberg make great instruments but this California TT Bass the World edition is really something special. The vintage-voiced Kloppman ‘64 pickups that come as stock with these special edition basses elevate it to a growly, grindy funk machine. This example is from early 2024 and in ‘as new’ condition except some swirling on the pick guard. It also comes with all the case candy including original hang tags! Full spec below including weight but first some video and pictures - A short video of the actual bass for sale: This is possibly the most recorded bass on YouTube with Gregor from Bass the World regularly featuring this edition on the Bass the World demo videos. I’ve selected a few videos below but there are dozens more on the Bass the World YouTube channel! Price includes shipping across the UK. I will also ship in new Thomann hardcase which should offer the protection needed. I can also give the original Sandberg soft case if collecting in person. You are also welcome to pop by to try the bass out if local to Reading or I’m happy to meet up in London. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! Full specs below: Construction:Bolt-on Weight: 3.9kg Scale:34″ Body:European Ash Neck:Maple Fretboard:Maple Frets:22 Pickups:Kloppmann JB61, Creme Covers Electronics:Passive Tuners:Sandberg Bridge:Gotoh Vintage Style Finish:Black Matte Strings: Dadarrio Nickel 40-100 Finally, I also have a Basschat feedback topic. And finally and finally, I’ve also put together a curated playlist with lots more sound demos. I will add more as I find them:
  15. Will be keen to hear your thoughts on this. I have another MF-101 clone by Triungulo but - just like the Moog - the drive section is always active even in bypass. This Past Fx is interesting to me because it does it away with that ‘feature’ and has a master volume.
  16. Really great price and lovely instrument. Good luck with sale!
  17. I’ve been perplexed by the price increase on these in the last year or so. I bought two sets for £35 each when they were first released. It’s actually cheaper to buy directly from Amazon in the US. And I’ve bought things directly from Amazon US and always had a smooth transaction. They also offer free international returns which I’ve used before. Even with customs and shipping, the total landed cost for the flats is £62.05!
  18. This is really cool. Shame about Chase having to limit sales due to EU/UK regulations on the particular component they use. It was also unfortunate that they are discontinuing some of their range like the Warped Vinyl for the same reason. Hopefully, things will change or this will pop up on the used US market further down the line.
  19. Chris’ work is not widely known about in the UK compared to Ireland and the rest of Europe. I never understood why. So it’s not surprising that those instruments didn’t gather as much attention at the auction compared to - by your account - a bitsa Fender and sub Stingray! Someone has posted on the Chris Larkin Owner's Facebook. It seems they bought the single cut you were bidding on as well as the 6-string fretless! They are very pleased with both. I dread think what I might have done if I had been at the auction….possibly have walked away with all seven!! Haha! If any of those instruments come up for sale again, I’d definitely say have another look….although you might have to fend off me!!
  20. Thanks for sharing what you noticed about the condition. I’ll be keeping an eye out for when some of these instruments come back up for sale and having a general sense about the condition will be helpful. Thanks also for sharing the final auction price. The curiosity got the better of me so I subscribed to the Price Guide. It’s seems that the final sale price for all seven of the Larkins were between £600-£750. In my twenty years of searching for used instruments, those are some the biggest bargains I’ve ever seen. Whoever did manage to get one got an incredibly special instrument for a fraction of its actual value. I notice that someone who bought the Larkin EUB at the auction for £700 is now listing it on eBay for £3500. I think that is a little optimistic but shows how undervalued these instruments were at auction!
  21. I know the time has passed but do you recall seeing some of the Chris Larkin instruments and what the condition was? These would have been the most valuable instruments of the whole auction.
  22. I’ve just come across this thread now. Always sad to learn about any passing. Whilst some of the listings were over valued, some were significantly undervalued. Del had a long relationship with the luthier Chris Larkin and five of Chris’ instruments were included in that auction, including some truly one off custom pieces made just for Del by Chris Larkin. I would have valued those Chris Larkin instruments at £1k-£2k per item with the lower valuation being very very conservative. The auction value was an average of £300-£500. I think that’s a bit worrying for the family if the auction house was putting those kind of valuations on instruments of that quality. Does anyone have access to the final selling price for the Chris Larkins? I may subscribe to the Price Guide just to find out but thought I’d ask here beforehand. I really hope for the family that any of the Larkins went for at least £1k
