1. So the good news is that I have a place at Manchester uni to study for a MMus in composition. Unfortunately I have to pay for it myself. So I'm having to downgrade some of my studio gear to raise funds. This is a brilliant high spec interface, featuring loads of ins and outs. I've owned it from new since January. It's in pristine condition, and comes with everything that it came with. I'd like £250. Next day special delivery included. 2. I think any bass will do any job, personally. It's how you play it.
3. I tried one and didn't like it either. I ended up with a Soundblox Multiwave Pro. The thing has endless permutations, and you can set your 3 favourites. These can be tweaked too.
4. Personally I don't really see the point, unless you're playing somewhere with a big stage where you can move about and 'perform'. That's just me though, I tend to sit down at gigs.
5. Usually I'd say (I was told often enough at uni), that you can't really go wrong with chord tones, just make sure you're playing the right 7th. I'm doing some dipping for a jazz band that uses a bass uke instead of a normal bass. He gets a lovely double bass like sound from it.
6. I used to have a similar problem at a venue I played at regularly, it was caused by power lines running directly overhead ! I think I'd check with the guys who did the work, and maybe get a 2nd opinion too, just in case.
7. These were bought brand new from Amazon in January, and have maybe had 2 hours usage since then. They are in pristine, like new condition. Complete with all cables, and packaging. I just don't get on with them, I prefer my ATHM50's, and mostly just use a pair on Genelec monitors, since finishing uni in June, most of my recording/production is done at home nowadays. Here they are being modelled by my semi-invisibe friend Mr Griffin I'd like £150 which includes next day special delivery.
8.
Listened to loads of these tracks last night. Brilliant stuff!
Why thank you kind sir ! Much appreciated
9. How about using a Kaoss Pad ? I just bought a KP3, and I can't believe what I've been missing. There's a new one called the Mini 2S, the S standing for sampler.
10.
I'd start looking for another band or another drummer. You both have to be good for it to work. I'm done with drummers who don't get it!
Luckily most I play with are pretty excellent, and guys I was at uni with.
11.
The only commercial cabs that I'm aware of that have reasonably flat response are Baer and Barefaced. If you want to be able to tell if a cab may have something close to flat response see if it has a midrange driver. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Even if it has a tweeter it won't be flat, there will be a response hole between the woofer and tweeter, if not on axis definitely off-axis. OTOH a tweeter isn't necessary, a good midrange driver goes as high as at least 90% of bass players really need.
Acme ?
12. No, you're only as good as.........you. If you're being let down by the drummer, then you need to take control, communicate during the performance, and if he's doing something wrong, then lead the rhythm section, don't just follow him. I played a jazz gig recently with a dep drummer who kept speeding up, so I kept looking at her and signalling to slow down, and take her timing off me. Steve Gadd and Anthony Jackson are probably my favourite rhythm section, I love what they did with Michel Pettrucciani.
13.
To download Logic itself without the additional content took about 20 mins tops, but then I have really excellent broadband. For the additional content, I set it to download & went to bed, then this morning I set it to download the additional instruments & went to work. 5pm can't come soon enough!
Ha that's what I did, left it overnight 😊 have fun I love it !
14.
That's me just downloaded Logic. Bedtime now, so I'll play with it tomorrow.
How long did it take to download ? When I got Pro X last year it took about 9 hours, but that's probably my rubbish broadband I think for what you get, it's extremely good value. They also give updates with extra sounds for nothing too, but maybe they all do that ? There was a recent upgrade that gave a whole load more sounds and instruments that I haven't gotten around to downloading yet.
15. Nice ! Someone told me a few years ago that U2 recorded some tracks off one of their albums on Garageband. It's great software.
16. If it's a band, then maybe your drummer could trigger them ? http://www.alesis.com/controlpad
17. What Modulus are you getting ? They're my favourite basses I switch strings depending on what I'm doing. For jazz gigs I have a set of Thomastik flats, they're nice on my solo stuff too. At the moment I have a set of very light (100, 80, 60, 40, 032, 028) D'addario ProSteels on, for a more guitar'esque vibe.
18. Nice ! I had a Clement 6 string fretless, it was beautiful.
19. Stu just bought my Pedaltrain mini pedal board from me, it was a nice and easy transaction, absolutely hassle free
20. Maybe try http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/ eBay ? http://www.touchstonetonewoods.co.uk
21.
It's where people debate Nash vs the post Nash period , at least thats my guess
I'm still really none the wiser, but thanks 😊
22. What's a hollies forum ?
23. Maybe contact your local college, see of they do a media course, and ask if any of their students want to practice on you ?
24.
This was a thread I did last month and has some useful info http://basschat.co.u...on-instruments/ End result, seems that home insurance generally won't cover instruments if you get paid for using those instruments, unless you lie about it.
Try getting car insurance if you tell them you're musician I think you just need to check the small print of your policy. Mine is insured via the MU.
